This is awful news. As someone who lost a family member to cancer, I can only imagine what the Trebek family is going through.

Sony ought to be looking for a new host, assuming Alex won't make it to Season 36 or finish Season 35. If tapings for this season haven't wrapped up already, maybe Pat Sajak could be interim host for the remainder of the season. Or there could be rotating hosts each episode, much like what happened on Wheel of Fortune during its 28th season after Charlie O'Donnell passed away (Jim Thornton was one of the rotating announcers and ultimately got hired as Wheel's new announcer starting in Season 29). And then next season, there's a new host.

I've heard that there are still eight taping days left, with the last being April 9, three days before Wheel's last tapings.
The most recent tapings, made the day Alex made the announcement, were for the week of May 27-31.

How was the episode online as early as 9:00 AM Eastern? AFAIK, the earliest regular first-run airing is 10:30AM ET/9:30AM CT in parts of Alabama.

I believe the first taping for Season 36 will be July, but possibly they'll find a new host depending on Alex's health.

If this picture posted on Instagram is any indication, a Teacher's Tournament taped on April 2. Listings show it will be airing May 6-17. A Teen Tournament is also listed from June 17-28.  |

The June teen tournament taped some time ago, before ALex was diagnosed with cancer. The teacher's tourney will be the first aired shows since his diagnosis, but June 3rd is the airdate of the first show taped after his diagnosis
