I decided it's a good time to discuss possibilities for next season now that we're in the last month of Season 36. So far, the only change I'm aware of is the increase of the smallest bonus round prize amount to $37K. But I also think they'll change the title card as well.
Some changes I would like to see:
- bring back returning champions to make the show more competitive. At least have champions win 5 games and retire undefeated. Jeopardy overtook Wheel in ratings as of recently because of James Holzhauer's historic run.
- hold a Tournament of Champions, Teen Tournament, College Championship, and Teachers Tournament
- have prize puzzles occur just once a week
- during tournaments, no prize wedges or prize puzzles

As far as your suggestions go...good luck.

As far as your suggestions go...good luck. In other words, don't expect Wheel to bring back returning champions or tournaments. But more realistic changes could include changing the on-air graphics. The current category strips and toss up wipe have been in use since Season 26 and Season 27 respectively; and I think it's time they get redesigned. Also they could update the final spin graphics and the prize puzzle wipe that shows up in the scoreboards at the start of round 3.

- bring back returning champions to make the show more competitive. At least have champions win 5 games and retire undefeated. I'm all for this, but Wheel's clearly against this for two reasons: * They wouldn't be able to shuffle around episodes and tape in whatever order they want. * Powerhouse champs would have the chance of taking the show to the cleaners more than once. Jeopardy overtook Wheel in ratings as of recently because of James Holzhauer's historic run. I'm willing to bet the kind of run James has been going on is the exact thing they don't want on Wheel. - hold a Tournament of Champions, Teen Tournament, College Championship, and Teachers Tournament Again, much as I'd love to see it...not happening. The Friday Finals format hasn't been used in 20 years, and as I mentioned above bringing back good players would just risk the show getting taken to the cleaners again. - have prize puzzles occur just once a week Friedman loves trips too much to do that, unfortunately. Basically, Wheel has too many budget problems to do any of these. Heck, I suspect they'll have more budget woes as compensation for James draining Jeopardy!'s money.

then maybe they should not artificially inflate scores with gimmicky stuff
edit:and not increase the cash minimum 1000 per season, as i'm sure they'll do

Also, I doubt Wheel will be getting a new set anytime soon. The current one is here to stay, even though it's been in use since 2003; but it has undergone SEVERAL minor tweaks, especially after the transition to HD.

I feel like Wheel should get a new set because it’s been the same since 2003. Also I would like to see remote (road shows) again. Doing remotes to me is the highlight of the season.

I'll say it again, the current set dates back to 2010, not 2003. Just because the Wheel base and board border have been the same since then doesn't mean they haven't changed the set at all.
I do agree that a new generic set would be nice, though. I like the current one except for the screen behind the contestants. It works on some themed sets, but the generic set should go back to just colored set pieces. Of course, that will never happen.

I doubt it needs to be said: not really anything in the way of surprises, and the one way to reduce Wheel's budget that fans have been calling on for ages (i.e. raising the price of vowels) won't happen because, you know, tradition for the past 44 years. If they do anything novel, it's probably another silly gimmick that die-hard fans of classic Wheel will grow to hate.
Edit to add: I'd be in favor of axing the prize puzzle in favor of bringing back the second Wheel prize, but yeah, the above stands.

I don't think any gameplay changes were made to WOF for season 36, and that's unusual.

For the record, we technically did get a gameplay change this season with the return of the $900 wedge outside of Round 3.
I mean, if there is one thing Season 36 got right, it is that the choosing a category gimmick stayed around. Sure, all three choices are generic most of the time, but it still gives some chance a frequent Wheel Watcher to expect certain words in Phrase and know not to call the I and G if they pick WAYD?

I’m hoping James Holzhauer’s streak comes to an end honestly. Then if Wheel gets their budget ordeal under control, here’s hoping for a bigger bonus wheel with at least twice the number of prize envelopes with vacation packages, new cars, and new cash prize values between $50k and $100k. And the spaces should be divided between pegs.
Hopefully by season 38, the top prize becomes $1M.

I think you meant "increase", not "reduce". Still, methinks Wheel could learn a thing or two from Fiddler on the Roof. If they do anything novel, it's probably another silly gimmick that die-hard fans of classic Wheel will grow to hate. Or something limited to Lottery Experience games or appearances in fiction.

The base of the wheel and the border around the puzzle board have not changed since 2003, I agree. Here are the changes I know of that have been made to the set since the wheel and puzzle board received their current LED-and-plexiglass borderings:
- The first generic set debuted in mid-March of 2004. - At the beginning of Season 21, the bonus wheel was redone in plexiglass and LED to match the rest of the set - During Season 24, the staging area around the set was widened to accomodate the 16:9 aspect ratio as part of the transition to HD. Also, the wedges on the wheel were recolored, with glittery borders around the dollar values. - The next season (S25), the monitors on the puzzle board were changed to flat panel displays, and the contestant scoreboards became larger plasma displays - During Season 27, the contestant railing received the Plexiglass and LED treatment, the generic set slightly changed - The current generic set debuted around December 2010, four months after the start of Season 28 - At the start of Season 30, the contestant scoreboards were widened and now touch one another for the first time since Season 24, and a fourth monitor was added to where Pat stands and displays the WoF logo. - And finally, the bonus wheel is once again redone during Season 31 with yellow letters and darker color hues.
When I mentioned a new set, I was referring to the base of the wheel and bordering around the puzzle board changing.

I TRULY wish "Wheel" would go back to have returning champions like in the old days and more so, it be nice if they'd treat it the same way "Jeopardy" is doing it, coming back show after show until defeated (like with "Jeopardy Jimmy" now). But we ALL know that'll NEVER happen (only in a dream) and "Jeopardy" & "Wheel" are SUPPOSED to be brother-sister shows.
But as far as predictors go: -I wish they'd get rid of that GOD-AWFUL theme music they're using today (I HATE IT!!!), I mute the TV and play the 1992-94 "Changing Keys" theme frm my phone. It'd be nice if they could simply come up with a "Changing Keys" remake (kind of like how "The Price is Right" did with their theme music when Drew Carey took over as host)
-If they keep eliminating dollar amounts from the wheel, soon it'll be nothing left but $800, $900 & the top dollar values in each round. They should've left the minimal at $250 or at least $300. But if anything, it would be nice if they would do away with the "EXPRESS" wedge and bring back the "JACKPOT" (or rename it "CASH BONUS" or something similar). I would say eliminate the Half-Car tags as well because nobody hardly EVER wins the Car that way nowadays anyway (last one I remember seeing was back in 2013)....
-This is something they SERIOUSLY need to do (and SHOULD do), a variety of DIFFERENT categories and stop using the same ones over and over again (especially "WHAT ARE YOU DOING ?", since that's the one they seem to use more of than the rest or retire it altogether) and also do away with the "Crossword" round, to me, I find it rather confusing, very much so, I wouldn't know HOW to read it when solving it (but then again, I've never really been a fan of crossword puzzles). And, also do away with the picking of the categories for the bonus round...
-For the bonus round, it seems like there's only ONE prize envelope that conceals the Car and the rest of them are the Cash amounts. They could certainly add a bit of variety there are well, I'm not saying add stuff like Furniture (IKEA or some other retailer), Jewelry, Motorcycles & Camping Trailers, but in addition to the Car & Cash prizes, maybe move the trips there (instead of being offered as the "Featured Prize") and add luggage & spending money to go with it, maybe throw in a Boat or an RV too.
-And the puzzleboard and wheel base could use an upgrade too or at least change it to a different variety of colors (ex: Red & Green for Christmas, black & orange for Halloween & pink & red for Valentine's Day).
I would come up with more predictions for the upcoming season but regardless of what they are, I know that NONE of what I came up with will happen in the near future. It's gotten to the point where the Wheelmobile shows are better than what we see on the real thing (and at least at the Wheelmobile tryouts, they play the classic "Changing Keys" theme music, the 1983-89 version)....

Correction: The Bonus Round Wheel was redone in Season 22 to match the rest of the set.

I think they had enough wins that season that they made the car tags available in one less round, no?

^ That's exactly what happened.
Number of wins per season:
Season 29: 18 Season 30: 21 Season 31: 12 Season 32: 26 (Tags no longer available in Round 1) Season 33: 11 Season 34: 8 Season 35: 6 Season 36: 6
S32 had roughly 1 1/3 wins every two weeks.
