Jeopardy! was apparently pre-empted for a special back in May. By the way, I declined his offer. Was that Jeopardy pre-emption during James Holtzhaur's run? Or during the Teacher's Tournament? And you didnt want that Wheel Swag??? Why? I just now realize that when she said "last year", she meant 2018, not last season. The special she was referring to was on May 31, 2018, and it was a regular game. Besides, considering how we saw stations behave towards the end of that famous run, I think any affiliate that would choose to drop J! for a local special during that time would have gotten an earful over the phone from Harry. As for declining the swag... One: It was likely stuff I already have anyway. Two: I'm not accepting anything from someone who gives an impression that they hate Wheel of Fortune and its fans, unless they make things right. I told him I would not accept anything from WPVI until they give a reason for Wheel always being its first target for pre-emptions and always giving Jeopardy! better treatment despite its previous partnerships with Wheel. I was waiting for one of the three usual excuses: "Jeopardy! has more viewers", "Jeopardy! has continuity", or "Wheel's time slot has more eyeballs". Got no response since then. Three: I'm in Connecticut. If I gave him my address to ship the stuff, obviously his first response would be, "If you live in Connecticut, why are you contacting a TV station from Philadelphia?". I thought about maybe giving the address to one of my South Jersey friends who's also a big fan, but he wasn't interested. He has a lot of Wheel swag as well. KHOU preempted Wheel due to the tropical storm in Houston. Thanks. According to one game show fan on Twitter, the coverage lasted all day, as KHOU also pre-empted Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal, and J! was pre-empted over on KTRK. Stay safe. |

This week's baseball game overran even longer than last week's thanks to a tenth inning. FOX finally signed off at 11:10 PM Eastern, 70 minutes after the end of the time slot. Jeopardy! and Wheel were once again unable to air on KDVR Denver due to the overrun.

So remember how KRQE Albuquerque did Wheel dirty recently by covering up most of it with the same day's Jeopardy! after a football game ran long? KRQE Albuquerque opted to start Jeopardy! from the beginning, so Wheel will likely start late around 9:45-9:50PM MT. I spoke too soon... and I should have figured this would happen... After Jeopardy! ended, a few commercials were aired, and then instead of starting it from the beginning, Wheel got joined in progress during Round 4 (at nearly the exact same point KKTV started it, during Red's R call). In other words, KRQE pre-empted the majority of Wheel so they could air Jeopardy! in its entirety! Ugh. The bias is real... Well, apparently they love Jeopardy!/hate Wheel so much that they even do this with the Saturday reruns. I don't normally discuss Saturday pre-emptions in this thread since they're way too common/random and the scheduling is way too inconsistent, but this story is worth noting, because I've never seen the Jeopardy!-replacement treatment go this far before. So KRQE is a CBS affiliate in the Mountain Time Zone. CBS had a College Football game scheduled until 9:00 PM local time, with the J! rerun scheduled for 9:00 and Wheel's at 9:30. Of course, since football, especially College Football, almost-always runs past its network time slot thanks to so many ads and clock stoppages, chances of J! airing in full or at all were slim. CBS did not sign off until about 9:49. Normally, this would mean Wheel would be joined in progress, probably around R4. Not in Albuquerque! With 10 minutes left before the local news would begin, rather than show what's left of Wheel, they showed the last 10 minutes of the J! rerun instead (starting during Double Jeopardy!), even though it was listed as Wheel! Wheel didn't air at all; they went right to the local news as scheduled. This is easily the worst example of Jeopardy! bias to date. At least the previous instance of this involved the All-Star Games Finals, but this was just a random non-tourney repeat from January 2018, and it wasn't even continuous with the rerun from last Saturday, as the champs were different. Now I wonder what KRQE will do if CBS signs off at a time like 9:15. Will they swap Wheel/J! so that J! gets to air in full at 9:30 and Wheel only gets partial airtime, or do what they did last time and start J! in full after the game and only show what they can of Wheel? Wouldn't surprise me... |

I think that a thread like this is a great idea. HOWEVER, all this "Jeopardy! is unaffected, because of course it is", "(This station) hates Wheel, but loves Jeopardy!" is just not necessary. This is supposed to be a thread about events affecting Wheel's time-slot in certain areas, and if Wheel of Fortune is going to air somewhere else, at a later date/time, etc. By mentioning Jeopardy! in a thread about Wheel of Fortune pre-emptions, you are making the thread somewhat irrelevant. (Though my thoughts still go out to Mr. Trebek as he goes through another round of chemo therapy.) I apologize for being brutally honest, but I also think that contacting different television stations that air Wheel of Fortune, and asking why they choose not to air WOF it it's pre-empted is just not worth the time and effort. Wheel of Fortune is still successful in its own right, even if Jeopardy! seems to be having more success. Your thoughts about how unfair it is for Jeopardy! to have preferential treatment over Wheel of Fortune in regards to pre-emptions, and contacting television stations that do this sort of thing almost makes it sound like you want Wheel of Fortune to be better than Jeopardy!, rather than the two be on equal terms. Now, once again, I apologize for being brutally honest about this, but I think that you need to STOP with this exaggeration of Wheel of Fortune being a "red-headed stepchild", and making a big stink about it by contacting television stations when they pre-empt WOF, but not J!. Understood. I can’t stay quiet when I feel Wheel is being treated unfairly, as I feel it’s a major part of the reason why its ratings are lower each season. But as for this thread, I will try my best to avoid my opinions on pre-emption situations and not mention whether that other game show is affected or not.
I know it’s annoying to the rest of you, but for me, it just hurts to see a station’s schedule looking like “7:00 - Jeopardy! / 7:30 - News 2 presents: Car Fire Safety”, especially if it’s in a bigger market. I do want the two to be equal, but the gap between them just grows more significant each year, both in popularity, ratings, and the general public’s perception/opinions on the two. I just want people to know that Wheel still matters even if it doesn’t have a 12-day champion winning over $500,000.
I’m sorry and I will shut up from now on and just stick to the straight facts. The good news is next week isnjust the usual fare of WKRN Tuesday, FOX Thursday, and WBZ Friday. No one-off specials.

For what its worth, on the occasion when they air special programming immediately after the news, my affiliate (WWNY) pre-empts Jeopardy! at 7 while leaving Wheel alone... and I think they even did so once during James' run last season.

WNEM has gotten way better about scheduled pre-emptions. They pre-empted both J! and Wheel for a previously unannounced Time-Life infomercial THREE TIMES during my week (thankfully my episode was aired!) and despite getting flooded with complaints on social media, they never said a word about it. Finally in S36 they seemed to take heed to the complaints. If either show is pre-empted they go out of their way to air both at 2-2:30 AM.

According to a viewer on Wheel's Facebook page, last night's episode was cut off early due to severe weather coverage. Wheel was interrupted when Vicky was choosing her Bonus Round letters.
Tonight, more severe weather is predicted for parts of Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, so tonight's Wheel may be affected in those areas. Stay safe.

NOTES:[1] Wheel is still listed at its regular 6:30 time on most listings, but WVUE's website does not have Wheel listed at all. Important update regarding WVUE New Orleans on Friday: Wheel will be airing at its regular time. Although the WWE Blue Carpet kickoff show does air at 7:30 ET/PT and 6:30 CT/MT/Hawaii, WVUE is opting to air it on its .2 Bounce TV subchannel instead (replacing The Game), although the actual WWE Smackdown event will air on FOX. |

An advisory for anyone who watches on WBFF Baltimore or WVUE New Orleans: Although these two stations schedule Wheel in certain time slots on Thursday nights after the football game, Wheel will start later if the football games run past 11:30 PM Eastern, but they do air the show in full. If you need to DVR these shows on Thursdays, it's best to also set recordings for the shows after them on the schedule, in order to get the full show. Last week, Wheel started about 40 minutes late on both of these stations, so DVR recordings would not have caught the show at all.
WBFF Baltimore viewers should record "FOX 45 Late Edition" at 12:35 AM (a repeat of the newscast that precedes Wheel), and Impractical Jokers at 1:10 AM.
WVUE New Orleans viewers should record Last Man Standing at 11:30 PM and 25 Words or Less at 12:00 AM.
Also, another update on tomorrow's WWE FOX pre-emption: WDAF Kansas City will air Wheel at 12:30 AM Central as they do on football days, although it is still listed as The Goldbergs.

I know I promised to keep this thread less opinionated this year, but I have to point out the irony that FOX offered so much money to have Wheel moved to its O&O's in top markets, yet they keep scheduling more and more sporting events that start at 7:00 or 7:30 Eastern. If this happened, Wheel's ratings in NYC would have been a small fraction of what they are from WABC. Maybe CBS TVD would have finally removed Wheel's 7-8 mandate, but it was a still a wise decision in the end for them to not let FOX take over it (and of course they go ahead and make their own "Wheel" for primetime :lol:). variety.com/2018/tv/news/wheel-of-fortune-jeopardy-abc-fox-cbs-1203019794/ |

WBFF Baltimore, Jason's affiliate, is airing yesterday's episode again by mistake right now. According to Jason, not only did they screw up the episode, they also did not (re-)air the Bonus Round. His father called WBFF to call them out on the mistake, and then the station went black during the commercial break between Round 4 and the Bonus Round. After several seconds of a black screen, nothing but commercials were aired until 8:00. And WBFF wasn't the only station to screw up tonight. Per several fans in the WOF Facebook Group, CBS affiliate WBTW in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina accidentally re-aired yesterday's episodes of Wheel and Jeopardy! No word yet on when or if these stations will re-air tonight's episode. |

Good news for Jason's family and friends. To make up for last night's mistake, WBFF (FOX) will be airing Tuesday's episode this Saturday at 7:00 PM Eastern (not the usual 7:30, as MLB pregame starts at that time). Fortunately, FOX's College Football broadcast ends at 4:00 that day, so the show's not in danger of getting pre-empted by overrun. However, the airing is still listed as Family Guy.
This move does not affect the weekend rerun, as they air on Sundays on sister station WNUV (CW).
