So, do you remember this set of recaps created by pakman 2 years ago? Well, as you may know, he doesn't have the Monday episode up yet. I would gladly complete another puzzle in this directory (and I'll do another one from a few seasons later). Also, this episode is turning 21 today, so it's pretty much another "Happy Birthday" gift to a classic episode.
I'd also like to mention that this is the first recap from me that has no tossups (and no Prize Puzzle to an extent).
Now, with that out of the way, here's the Preview Puzzle:
EPISODE #3211: BIG MONEY WEEK
Airdate: 1/10/00
You remember what happened at the beginning of the next episode? Now was the time to say DON RICKLES.
Anyway, these contestants would love a huge chunk of cash:
Steve Lundqvist: Carlsbad, CA. 4th year student at the advertising arts college in San Diego (he's also teacher's assistant there at night). He hopes to get into teaching advertising.
Dawn Blankenship: Monroe, WA. Married to Scott for 10 years with 2 kids. She hopes to become an actress in the near future.
Darlene Ellison: Chicago, IL. Telecommunications specialist for a major communications company. She also has 2 young adult children and is teaching herself sign language.
There's a dollar sign projected on the wheel this week. Pat notes that it's simply lighting effects ("Wow, this is like Steven Spielberg.")...and a bit of like a home school project.
Pat mistakenly said that Darlene's fist spin landed on $600.
Steve solves THE FABRIC OF OUR LIVES...but he causes the audience to laugh with a guess of Metamucil (that's a fiber). It's actually the rather generic Cotton.
DUDS: N (Steve), K (Dawn), M (Darlene)
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: Sony Home Entertainment system + webTV (marked webtv) worth $3,528
Regarding the last round, Pat makes sure that they're not making light of the importance of roughage.
$10,000 ROUND
PERFECTION! Dawn pinpoints THE SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS IN CALIFORNIA. Let's see if she can be over 7 grand before this break...
No guess from her. They were AWE-INSPIRING. I'm guessing that would be easier to get if this was 10 years later.
Pat jokes about that armored car on the stage (and no, that's not a Bonus Round prize).
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a week's stay at the New York Marriott Marquis (marked NEW YORK) worth $4,850
And yes, there is a very brief clip of the show's 1988 remote to that location.
JACKPOT ROUND
MON/WED/FRI SPONSOR: Hot Pockets Cheeseburger
For some reason, the Jackpot graphic disappears just before Vanna touches the T.
Dawn rightly responds "WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK OFF" to claim the New York holiday.
DUDS: N (Darlene), S (Steve)
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $9,500
DING DING! DING DING!
FINAL SPIN: $1,300
Steve: Y (?!)
Dawn: S ($1,300)
Darlene: H ($1,300)
Darlene guesses MARTIN SHORT.
Steve: 2 N's ($2,950+)
Steve IDs MARTIN SHEEN and wins the WebTV package, giving him $6,478 that round.
DUD DURING SPEEDUP: Y (Steve)
Of course a pre-Tossup era episode had to have someone go home with Parting Gifts...
WINNINGS SO FAR: $22,528
NO PENALTIES!
BONUS ROUND:
It's a new week and of course I have to list off the prizes here (3 of the 4 non-$25K prizes are all worth $20,000, no cars here):
Sacagawea Golden Dollar Coins
Thomas Group Annuity (that's worth $30,000)
Citi Plaza Citi Plaza Shopping Spree
Gold & Silver Bars
But of course, what's Big Money Week without the usual $25,000 cash?
The envelope that Dawn picks is the First E.
RSTLNE gives three E's:
CDBA just gives the frontloading B, but I think it'll do some good...
...or maybe not. Dawn says BEENIE and BEEPIE, but it's actually BEEHIVE and there goes the Shopping Spree. That sends her off with $13,300 in cash & trip.
Pat's noting that's he's starting to point like a game show host after all those years.
I'd also like to mention that this is the first recap from me that has no tossups (and no Prize Puzzle to an extent).
Now, with that out of the way, here's the Preview Puzzle:
