We finally have pictures from inside the studio. The generic set was used for the August 13 tapings, and they concluded with a retirement party for producer Karen Griffith. Some more elements from the CWOF set, including the wider, rounder arches behind the puzzle board, have been made permanent with the syndie version's more vibrant color palette compared to CWOF's gold everywhere. The glass panels on the set walls are the same ones as the original 2010 generic set, so there will still be some significant set differences between syndie and Celebrity WOF. There are also dandelion chandeliers hanging. Those could have been hung just for the party, though. We'll know in September, probably. No, we have nothing of the Wheel yet. Only from the board to the center screen. Still, this looks great!

All in all, it’s really beautiful. Surprised they’re still using the same design as their logo, but the background makes up for it; kind of reminds me of Season 30.

Judging by what I see on the monitor, there will be a new title card for Season 39. The S37 opening graphics was used again for S38 probably because of COVID, or who knows.

Definitely looks nice, I like how they're blending the CWOF set pieces with the colors of the syndicated set.

Thanks for sharing these snaps. The CWOF set pieces seem to be a step above from the design of the last ten years or so. This particular color palette looks really nice and would look great on TV. I wonder if they transferred the WOF set piece from behind the contestant area from the celebrity series for the syndicated eps. I always found the video wall behind the contestants to be tacky and rarely used in any imaginative way.

Looking through the available 1980-81 episodes with full credit rolls, Karen Griffith joined the show sometime after the August 13, 1980 episode (Steve/Kathie/Grace), where Candy Haley is credited as production secretary. By the June 18, 1981 episode (Walt/Nancy/Brenda), Karen had replaced Candy as production secretary.

I feel that the video wall has long since worn out its welcome. Ever since it launched for Season 16, it seemed very synthetic compared to the more natural backdrops that preceded it. It just doesn't feel like you're watching Wheel and instead just casually chatting with someone on vacation somewhere when listening to the interviews in particular. I feel that the center screen is enough to showcase the week's theme in video. CWOF helped to bring it back with the gold logo, and It would be nice to carry it over to the main show, perhaps in blue to represent the syndicated version.
Still, thanks for all the wonderful support Karen that you've accomplished ever since the days of Chuck & Susan, and I wish a happy retirement for you and your family/friends.

Totally agree about the video wall and returning to a backdrop behind contestants. Would be great if either they used something similar to the CWOF backdrop or would be really cool if they started using the individual backdrops for contestants again.

Totally agree about the video wall and returning to a backdrop behind contestants. Would be great if either they used something similar to the CWOF backdrop or would be really cool if they started using the individual backdrops for contestants again. I totally agree with everyone who says the video wall behind the contestants has outlived its time and should be retired from service. And to tell you the truth, that wall has been nothing but a distraction since its debut in the Fall of 1998. So, if it is retired, which in all fairness is likely as I am hoping and praying that it is, in favor of the CWOF backdrop, that would further alleviate any distractions for the sake of the contestants. And as far as having individual backdrops again, I would REALLY love it if these particular Diamond Backdrops were brought back into service or rebuilt from scratch in case they were in some way dismantled or destroyed. If you're wondering why I love this version so much, I can tell that as much as I love the ones before or the 1992 Starburst version afterwards, the Diamond set was actually my first. Just like the beloved 1989-1992 theme was my first.

Seeing multiple photos now, I don't think it's implausible to say that this color scheme is here to stay, at least for the syndie eps. Really looks great for an overdue refresh. Now we need somebody to point the camera to the other side of the studio and find out if that damn video wall is in storage!

GOOD. RIDDANCE. Hated that video wall; it was cheap and a huge distraction.

That looks fantastic, and I won't miss the video wall one bit. Credit where it's due to Mike Richards I guess?

Hopefully we'll see a picture without all the trees and stuff in front, but definitely liking what we can see here.

Oh my! I love the colors! After all, that colorful Wheel was what got me into the show to begin with!
Now, I'll be honest with you. If they're not doing this already, I wouldn't be surprised if they made variations to it later on such as making the colored wedges and curved bars surrounding it rotate and revolve similar to the animated title card.

This looks nice. And thank GOD. The video wall has well overstayed its welcome.

I actually liked the video wall. But I guess it's time for a change.
