No offense to any former contestants (or said fan favorite who should REALLY get it), but I’d be shocked to see any former non-CWOF contestants become host. Wheel doesn’t have the same built-in household name recognition with contestants that Jeopardy has. Ken Jennings has a legacy with the show that goes back almost 20 years and without such a long streak nobody would know who he was.

I could see Seacrest as the host, but from my perspective, my money right now is on Maggie Sajak. It seems she's been groomed for the gig. Whoever it is will have some big shoes to fill; I am very thankful to have met Pat during those brief moments of cooldown when I was on Wheel. Best wishes to Pat and his family.

Whoopi has about as much of a chance of replacing Pat as Rosie did replacing Barker.
Publicly going "I want that job" doesn't increase your chances in the slightest.

I just wanted to wish Pat Sajak many years of happiness and him to his happy retirement.

Three out of four of Merv's picks had no previous game show hosting experience, with Chuck being a country singer, Pat a weatherman, and Rolf a pro football player. Only Bob Goen had previous hosting experience when he was given the reigns on the el cheapo CBS daytime version. Slight correction there... two out of three of Merv's picks. As far as I've heard, Merv had nothing to do with hiring Goen (if Merv had gotten his way, Rolf would've stayed through the network hop); hiring him was entirely CBS's move (and a good one, in my book).

I always imagined Maggie doing Vanna’s job if she ever decides if leave along with Pat. It looks like Vanna might stay on the show a little bit longer. One alternative would be Maggie should be the new host and Vanna continues to touch letters. Another alternative would be is Vanna named the new host and Maggie touches letters on the puzzle board.
My opinion is that the new host should be someone young and someone relatively unknown. Pat Sajak was relatively unknown when he started hosting in 1981 and then became a household name along with Vanna two years later when the nighttime syndicated version was launched. If Maggie Sajak does eventually gets Vanna’s job I hope the new host would be close to Maggie’s age. Pat was 35 was he started hosting and Vanna was 25 when she started turning letters. Both Pat and Vanna were nationally unknown when they started hosting Wheel together and this was proven successful back in the ‘80s. I’m not sure will picking someone unknown will still work in today’s time since we are now in a different era and most “Powers to be” these days prefer someone with years of experience and someone nationally well-known.
Here is a fun fact about how old other game show hosts were they started hosting. Bob Barker was 48 when he began hosting the Price is Right and Alex Trebek was 44 when he started hosting Jeopardy. Drew Carey was 49 when he replaced Bob Barker. Chuck Woolery was almost 34 when he originally started hosting and Susan Stanford was around 29 when she originally began turning letters.
If Ryan Seacrest is named host he would be 50 years old when he starts hosting. I know there might be other celebrities who might try to audition for Pat’s job. I just hope the new host would have some TV experience and someone young who can host the show for decades to come.
My preference for a new host should be someone relatively unknown with some TV experience, someone who is an aspiring TV star and someone young close to Maggie’s age. That way both the new host and Maggie (who could potentially take over for Vanna) can take the show into a new generation of fans for decades to come. Together both Maggie and the new host (who could be young and nationally unknown) will host Wheel for the next several decades just like Pat Vanna did for 40 years.

So, in that case, wouldn't the correction actually be three out of three (since the one that Merv had nothing to do with is the one that had experience out of the four orignally mentioned)?

Sherri Shepherd, 2X CWOF Contestant, also appears to be a front runner for the gig: www.yahoo.com/entertainment/ryan-seacrest-sherri-shepherd-among-234305040.htmlAs much as I’d like a comedian and somebody like Sherri (who has game show hosting experience in addition to being a frequent guest on a lot of different shows), given Wheel’s demographics and the fact that Sajak will stay on as a consultant and likely have a say in his successor and possibly Vanna’s, I really doubt they’re going to go too off the board with this and somebody like a Ryan Seacrest will probably wind up with it.

Wheel didn't celebrate the milestone on the next show so that's why I feel #S-2535 existed. It would've been a Culver City episode. Part of the evidence suggesting it doesn't exist is that the two-day champion from S13's final Culver City episode returned in early Season 14. If there was an extra Culver City show after Atlanta, it couldn't have had champions, because if it did, it would have been that contestant's final day. There was one unverified claim on the Wiki that the episode that aired after the Atlanta finale was a rerun of Teen Week's Friday Finals. Is this implying that they only did 4 Atlanta shows from that week? The only thing I can think of making that true would be the the opening ceremony aired that Friday.

Press at the time confirmed there were 14 Atlanta shows, and in #S-2534 (which is viewable at the Paley Center), Pat mentions multiple times that it's their last show in Atlanta.

I’d take that article with a grain of salt considering Vanna has said on the air that she doesn’t want to host again and Sony probably wants somebody long-term and not someone who will have the gig for 5-10 years than move on to something else. Vanna needs to be there for the transition period with the new host before her own eventual retirement (which will likely be shortly after Pat leaves). In related news, an article came out yesterday stating that Vanna has not had a pay raise in nearly 20 years, and makes only a fifth of what Pat does: puck.news/vanna-white-would-like-a-raise/
