Alfonso Ribiero did an interview recently about hosting the Capital Fourth special for PBS and the subject of the Wheel hosting job came up, to which he said he is interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY9ORA7oCUw#t=4m10s

Slight correction there... two out of three of Merv's picks. As far as I've heard, Merv had nothing to do with hiring Goen (if Merv had gotten his way, Rolf would've stayed through the network hop); hiring him was entirely CBS's move (and a good one, in my book). So, in that case, wouldn't the correction actually be three out of three (since the one that Merv had nothing to do with is the one that had experience out of the four orignally mentioned)? Nope. In fact, it's actually one out of three - Pat hosted at least two game shows (both unsold) before getting Wheel, and Rolf had hosted a runthrough of Merv's Winfall before getting a Wheel audition. Chuck, as far as I know, legitly had no prior game show hosting experience prior to Shopper's Bazaar. I'm not 100% sure if Merv had any (meaningful) input on Wheel 2000, whose host David Sidoni also had no (known) prior game show hosting experience.

I am sad to see him go and Will really really miss him though I had an idea this was probably going to happen. he looked at it envelope early and actually said a answer to the bonus puzzle Out loud right before the bonus round timer. (it was generic enough that no one got the puzzle just like the The wild card back in the 1980s but it had standards and practices all over it) I actually had just lying around in my bookmarks on my phone. (https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2564539/is-wheel-of-fortune-trying-to-replace-pat-sajak) (this might of been before the 'answer situation') I was not completely sure if they were going to do it considering he does have a history of doing this (forgetting to do functions of the game) back in the 1980s when he let a bunch of contestants keep wild card past bankruptcy. but I knew trouble was going to happen once he literally said a answer of a bonus puzzle. us as fans can forgive this but The people at Sony might not. another thing I remember (and this would be the best case scenario compare to the 'recommend' voluntary retirement) he mentioned he wanted to leave "on top" in a website article. (not this one) as in when wheel of fortune is a successful game show instead of leaving when the show is almost getting cancelled or something like that. he might be doing all these things to speed up the retirement process (this of course is just a few guesses from my head and with nothing else to back it up). He might want to leave now with about a decades time before The 2035 contract that many predict will hinder television as a whole. (I think TV can make a come back as I actually cut the cord and came back to the cord myself though many others do not feel that I hope.) either way I have a feeling this is probably going to be one of the most watched seasons and I am definitely going to try to enjoy what we got left. I knew this day would be coming, but still was caught off guard that it happened seemingly with no advance warning. Wishing all the best for all involved with the transition. Pat's continuing involvement as a consulting producer in the coming years signals that he will have a say in his successor, which is a good thing considering the as yet unresolved mess next door. In terms of who might replace him i would of said two years ago they would end the show as i thought they were going to be in jeopardy when Trebek died. (not because the show could not be run by anyone else but it was a good natural place to leave off rather than having a it get cancelled later.) but jeopardy seems to still (though I agree with usedletterboard The mess is definitely not dealt with, One of the hosts not being able to follow. who promised days (some thing I have a feeling a lot of people are actually pleased of) and another going on book tour. (I am not sure if that's going to cause anything but just putting out there). The show has been successful in recent years so I think it will continue for a while making this show likely to also continue considering they are packaged in many places. I have a feeling they did not send much before this year because I think before this year the shows were planning on ending faster than actually happened when he died. possibly due to Covid making people stay at thus watching more TV. (actually Covid was when I became a more loyal wheel watcher rather than a now and then one.) whoever they get which is likely Maggie hopefully they have a decent career. but at the same time I have a feeling we are not going to get someone as 'blunt' as pat in any stretch (mostly referring to his sense of humour but it is also his mannerism in general like how he deals when he does a mistake), and his 'bluntness' is something that is really close to my heart as it reminds me of some of the people in my life in certain points.

All I can say is that, I'll find it hard to believe it really is the last when that day comes.

The last public taping will be Friday, March 8. How does that make any sense? If that's the case, then how will there be an audience?

^ There won't be. It will probably just be the contestants' guests, and the tapings other contestants also sit in the audience when they're not playing. The very last tapings will probably be reserved for the press.

The very last tapings will probably be reserved for the press. And possibly also for "friends and family" (both of Pat and of others who work on the show would make sense as well).

I noticed that they just posted public ticket availability for April 4th and 5th tapings on the website, although not in the afternoon on the 5th. Do you think that the contestants they've selected to tape during that time have already been notified? I sent in an application in April of 2022, auditioned in April of 2023, and was told at that time that I would "definitely be on season 41", but that was before they announced it was Pat's final season. I've been anxiously awaiting news all year and now I'm thinking maybe they shuffled things around and I ended up not being in the season 41 pool. I'm considering getting audience tickets for the final tape day(s) anyway. Any inside scoop or advice for me?

^ You likely would have been given your taping by now, yes. I'm sorry they didn't live up to their promise of letting you be on Pat's last season, but if you can make it out there, I'd get the tickets while they're available. They'll probably go fast.
Randy West claims that several of Pat's friends and colleagues will be there for his last show, so it's no surprise the 3:30 session isn't listed.

Public tickets being available for April 4-5 was a mistake. Both days are strictly invitation-only. Anyone who was able to get tickets on either day will have them revoked and will likely receive a phone call announcing such.
