I am well beyond cooked at this point with this week. That BR was absolutely right in front of them. WHAT. THE. HECK.
Repeated calls shouldn't be happening daily - come on.
Athalie & Nilda had an interesting situation at the end of R4. With their perfect rotation, they could have risked their 5k, doubled up and get in the lead, or even make the clock run out and win without a chance for Steven & Mike to do anything about it. They ended up making the safe call and were in the game, and not much you can do about a first-turn solve, but certainly a situation you don't see often.
June missed her chance for a cruise with a bad draw (taping 6th)... aw.

This was a pretty disappointing episode...
-Tossups: The third Tossup was a bit frustrating. THe blue ladies' answer of NORTH DAKOTA doesn't even fit. I had the same wrong answer as the Wilsons. The Poseys should have solved it right after the Wilsons missed it.
-R1: THe Poseys left some multiples up on the board and that really bugs me.
-R2: I know buying vowels really help, but once again, the Poseys left some multiples unclaimed (especially the S's and the Y's)
-R3: There was NO EXCUSE for the Wilsons to repeat that E when it was right in front of them.
-R4: Towards the end, I was whispering "Please don't say O" when it was the Wilsons' turn, but they did.
-R5: Nice solve, but too bad it wasn't a little bit more.
-Bonus Round: I thought it was BED something, but I got it immediately after their choices appeared. As soon as the Sony Boards are available again, The Poseys have some explaining to do on why they didn't get their puzzle. I'm very disappointed in them.
EPISODE RATING: 5 out of 10
Guys, we were in this position before (possible BR shutout) on the final weeks of Season 24 and Season 25, but somebody was able to salvage them. Hope that's the case tomorrow.

And Wayoshi, you are not supposed to swear on these boards. This is a violation of board rules.

I just don't know what to say about that bonus round. It was theirs for the taking, and they still couldn't get it. Hopefully we can close out the season on a high note tomorrow. And Wayo's post has been edited to remove the swear. Please do not do that again, Wayo.

My only comment about today's show for now:
How was that Bonus Round puzzle not solved?

I couldn't figure out that Bonus Round puzzle. What I did figure out was that the Posey pair were very horrible at playing this game. The. vowels. are. not. free.

OK. I do not have to wait until the Sony boards are back up to explain myself. By the way, this is Steven, of Mike and Steven.
For those of you wanting us to spin the wheel to earn more money, let's consider some facts. We were the 6th show filmed that day. The 5th filming that day, which aired on Friday two weeks ago, had to have came close to breaking the record for Bankrupts and Lose a Turn. This definitely was on our minds.
Yes, vowels do cost money, but landing on Bankrupt costs a lot more.
Furthermore, consider our competition. Our opponents were very strong. As you could see, they solved the first tossup with 3 letters on the board. These ladies were not dummies. It became a game of strategy and "ball control" (if you get that reference).
Third, it's much easier to solve puzzles sitting on your couch or laying back in your recliner. I used to wonder why people couldn't solve puzzles that seemed so easy.
Additionally, consider the letters would you would have called and if they would have given you the opportunity to solve it in the first place. I had never heard the term "web video" until this episode. This term that is not used locally and no one I have spoken to uses this term. While I wish we could have solved the BR, it was not meant to be. Had I heard it before or used the term before, I'm sure I would have solved it.
And to you MysteryWedge, it's kind of odd such a "horrible" team made it to the bonus round. Buying vowels is the best way to solve puzzles. If you ever had the opportunity, you could have asked Pat and Vanna about it and they would have told you the same thing. They actually told us after the game that they too believed it was the best strategy for the game considering our competition.
An oh yeah, you may have noticed our wives in the audience. What you don't know, three more of our family members were supposed to be in the audience. This was also heavy on our minds since we didn't know where they were and they were definitely supposed to have been there. Turns out, my grandmother had a stroke that morning and was at UCLA medical Center undergoing treatment. So next time you decide that someone is awful 'winners', also consider that we aren't total dummies but used strategy to ensure our place in the Bonus Round.
It was just our misfortune we couldn't solve the puzzle. Too bad we didn't have some of you there to yell it out for us.

Ugh! Well,... uh... well, here's what I've got to say. I did get the bonus puzzle myself, but since they didn't and no other player on the show did at all this week, will they get it tomorrow? Will someone save the last week of the season from being a bummer, bonus round wise? Will someone end this awfully bad season on a somehow good note? Unlike Caitlin, my answer is, "I've got a bad feeling about this."

Stevenp: Some of us get a little too worked up over "bad" solves, I think. People lock up all the time. And there are far worse whiffs in the bonus round than not being able to figure out VIDEO from _IDE_. Double vowels are often the bane of the bonus round, as are willy-nilly adjective-noun combos like that.

Welcome, Steven. You did EXACTLY the right thing by buying vowels. So many people think it's bad strategy but it's not. Vowels are among the most popular letters in the alphabet, so there's less chance of "dudding" with a vowel, plus since you don't have to spin, there's no risk of getting penalized without guessing a letter. Vowels are a very good help. I wonder if they'll increase them to $500 next season, though. I think it's about time the price has changed. Mysterywedge, pretend you're on the show, and you're in the blue position. The red player just scored some money, and is now buying many vowels at once. Wouldn't you probably be saying in your head, "Come on! Mess up already!"? Well, she probably won't because vowels are very frequent in the English Language. It's not like you'll only find 0-1 of each in every puzzle. I understand how you might have felt trying to solve the Bonus Round puzzle. It must be very pressuring, with dozens of people watching, and that timer music going off, plus having to glance back and forth between the puzzle and the used-letter board, since your letters don't appear right under the puzzle as they do on TV. And that was a slightly odd pairing of words. I knew it, but I've never heard anyone say that term word-for-word. I'm sorry about your grandmother, and I'm sorry that had to be on your mind throughout the show. That can't be fun. Hope she's doing well. And congratulations on your winnings. Was anything edited out of the show that you noticed?

I thought I put some stars on the swear, but I guess that's still a problem anyways. Like I said, I am overly frustrated right now.
What is this about buying too many vowels? That conservative style wins the maingame but probably at a low amount. It's considered a pretty good trade-off.
I'm sorry there were family issues, Steven & Mike, at the time of taping, but you still have some flawed logic... I dunno how bad the previous episode was (I bet even more was edited out) but you should have known that was not the norm .. also, your competition was not that good. Decent, but you were clearly the best.
Also, WEB VIDEO should be the type of BR, that doesn't exactly match what people would say, that you should be prepared for.
EDIT: Mario, remember that the puzzlewriters like to have 1-2 vowel duds a puzzle often... it isn't just blindly calling them all.

By "buyin too much vowels", that wasn't the issue. I wanted you and Mike to spin to get the cash back from those vowels.

We wanted to spin and get money back from the vowels too, but in the heat of the moment we flubbed up. How I wish we would've spun to make some money on LONG ISLAND SOUND EFFECTS. We left 2 L's, 2 F's and 2 N's. Don't think I haven't been mad about that myself, but then again we may have landed on bankrupt the next spin. It would have been nice to get some more money on a few of those puzzles but there's nothing we can do about it now. Hindsight is always 20-20.
As far as the BR, I still wish I would have called an O instead of an I, as 'O' was at the tip of my tongue until I said "I". If so, the puzzle would have read _EB _ _DEO and I believe we would have solved that without issue. The major issue that stumped us I guess was the double vowel at the end. Had I known that, we would have walked away with $30k.
But it's my uncle and I that have to live with it. We're still annoyed by the fact that we didn't solve the BR and that we MAY have been able to get more money by spinning, but we wouldn't change the experience for anything. Maybe one day, those of you that haven't had the chance to be on the show will have the opportunity. You will see it is not as easy as it looks. For instance, I solved "I'm hopeful" on the Friday night show as soon as the letters showed up, but would I have called the same letters as him. Too bad we didn't get the Sunday Brunch puzzle in the BR. I have to admit that had to be one of the greatest solves at such a critical point in the game, especially with $6k per letter being given away. I am grateful for the chance and feel blessed to have been on the show that so many aspire to be on.
