! Please upload the rest, Kookah! ;D I like the "used bad letters" row at the bottom of the board. Any ideas on the puzzle? I have PASSENGER for the second word... Weird seeing contestants yell "Stop! " in a show that's not PYL, and for a R1 Wheel that has no "Whammies" at that. The opening Wheel has 30 wedges instead of 24, and no penalty wedges. Here is the configuration (clockwise). The second color is the color under the dollar amounts. Frmo what I can make out, top dollar is $450. Can anyone make out a $500 anywhere? $300 (Green/Orange) $100 (Light Blue/Dark Blue) $350 (Orange/Red) $250 (Brown/Green) $450 (Orange/Dark Blue) $50 (Red/Light Blue) $150 (Green/Brown) $350 (Light Blue/Dark Blue) $100 (Red/Orange) $250 (Dark Blue/Brown) $400 (Light Blue/Green) $200 (Brown/Dark Blue) $50 (Orange/Red) $450 (Green/Light Blue) $100 (Dark Blue/Orange) $300 (Light Blue/Red) $150 (Dark Blue/Green) $250 (Orange/Brown) $50 (Red/Dark Blue) $200 (Light Blue/Green) $350 (Brown/Red) $100 (Orange/Dark Blue) $400 (Green/Light Blue) $300 (Red/Orange) $150 (Light Blue/Dark Blue) $200 (Green/Orange) $450 (Red/Dark Blue) $50 (Orange/Brown) $400 (Dark Blue/Green) $150 (Red/Light Blue) Behind the sparkles, the digits are white on the red, green, dark blue, and brown wedges. They're black on the orange and light blue ones.

Interesting that they gave everyone a turn (and a chance to win money) as they were being introduced, regardless of whether their opponents' calls were good or bad.
I'm stunned at the amazing quality of this clip. Definitely hoping that the rest surfaces sometime, but even so, this is a treasure!
Also, I'm feeling that this puzzle could be HENRY KISSINGER, who was sworn in as Secretary of State on September 22, 1973, the same month as this taping.

My goodness! I wonder how Kookah got a hold of this, but however he did, I think he became our new best friend. Now, although back then, people of those times didn't like this pilot, hardcore "Wheel of Fortune" fans such as us nowdays want to see this pilot, see the Wheel's layout, and want to see how this game worked. I myself am unspeakably excited to see this September 1973 pilot. I guess all that's left now is to see the 1974 pilots and some 1975 episodes and I guess we'll be settled with American Wheel. Obviously, we still have a long way to go with the international versions. You can count on me, but I have to rely on others for that. But speaking of international versions, the way the gameplay started reminded me of how Italy's version worked back in 1989 and early 1990s. They start once down the line and even if you got a letter in the puzzle, play would still pass. I like that.

Kookah seems to be what I call "the strong, silent type," similar to videoarchives1000. Most of the stuff that they upload are rare gems, but don't comment directly to them, cause they ain't gonna answer you. ;D
If he has the opening, he's bound to have the rest. Hopefully we'll get the rest.
The puzzle was HENRY KISSINGER, by the way.

Fr[om] what I can make out, top dollar is $450. Can anyone make out a $500 anywhere? I'm pretty sure there aren't any. Brad Francini says $500 was the top value in Rounds 1-2, and I know of publicity shots (they're on the Wiki) that show a $500 wedge. It's possible they went $450-$500-$1,000 and added $0/special spaces in Round 2. I'm feeling that this puzzle could be HENRY KISSINGER, who was sworn in as Secretary of State on September 22, 1973, the same month as this taping. That may give a hint as to when the pilot was recorded, assuming the full thing doesn't have a slate. Kookah seems to be what I call "the strong, silent type," similar to videoarchives1000. Most of the stuff that they upload are rare gems, but don't comment directly to them, cause they ain't gonna answer you. ;D Kinda. When someone asked Kookah if s/he had the rest of the Match Game pilot whose opening was uploaded, the response was "I'll upload it when I have the time". As for videoarchives1000, s/he has also responded to comments -- I think someone asked about having Caesar's Challenge, and the response was something like "I think I have one episode; I'll have to check." (tl;dr -- they'll answer comments they find worth responding to.) Being polite and undemanding in our comments is a good suggestion, even if nothing further comes of this. Kookah has at least proven that someone other than GSN has it, and the opening segment has filled in a considerable number of gaps at the Wiki and provided some high-quality snaps. (And who thought it'd be great to use freaking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the theme? I'm betting that's why GSN hasn't shown it.)

I'm guessing the opening layout had no penalty wedges or $0 in order to demonstrate how the gameplay worked.
From what's being shown already, emphasis is being put on the contestants' shopping for prizes over the actual gameplay.
What I find odd is that each row of the puzzleboard has 15 spaces. Even today's electronic puzzleboard has just 14 on the middle two rows and 12 on the top and bottom, the previous 4-line trilon board had 11 on the top and bottom and 13 on the middle two, while the 1974-81 three-liner had 13 in all three rows.
I'd like to see the ending, if there are any end credits-I'd like to know who produced and directed this pilot.

They start once down the line and even if you got a letter in the puzzle, play would still pass. I like that. that rule was added on the Easter 1987 episode of Pentatlon, another Mike Bongiorno gameshow that had Wheel as one of the games. also the wheel initially was motorized and contestants pressed a button to stop it. Mike called it the "warm-up lap"

I've seen some Pentatlon episodes, but I don't think I saw the one you mentioned. I didn't even know that method I mentioned had a name. Thanks for all the info.
Even so, I wonder if this "warm-up lap" existed in the 1987 Odeon version.

All right. Folks, I have an update here with some good news, but also some bad news. The good news is I just spoke to Kookah and even showed him that 1974 pilot clip, and I believe the source (presumably GSN) he got it from may indeed have the entire pilot. The bad news is that that source allowed him to post only the intro.

Why would GSN be stingy about this?
