One of Jim's trivia questions Jim used was "What was the original name of Wheel of Fortune?" and listed 3 choices which included Shoppers Bazaar. He mentioned the clip was on YouTube and how different and boring it was from the kind of show Wheel of Fortune is today. Other classic clips he talked about was Vanna going from the manual to electronic puzzle board, the woman who solved the puzzle with 1 letter, the million dollar winner, and "A Group of Pill Pushers" solve.
One the pages talked about a story I never heard of which I thought was interesting. We all know Chuck Woolery left Wheel after Merv Griffen said no to a drastically high raise. The way it went was Chuck apparently went to Merv and said "I talked to God last night and he told me to tell you to increase my salary to a million dollars" and Merv replied "I talked to God as well and he told me you'd be asking for a raise and that I should say no". At the time Chuck asked for the raise Wheel wasn't in syndication and was airing on NBC. They apparently canceled the show for 3 days and then quickly realized they had nothing to fill in its slot so they replaced the show with itself until they could find something else. I don't know if that led to Chuck quitting or what. But they have said (and I read it in news reports) that Chuck regrets quitting the show especially after seeing its success skyrocket.
One last thing before we get this thread back on topic. Alex mentioned at the taping last week that Jeopardy is apparently beating Wheel of Fortune in the ratings by about 1 million viewers.

IIRC, the E! THS special on Wheel said that Chuck was getting paid $5,000 a week, but wanted $10K, even though he was only working one day a week. Merv offered a smaller increase to $7,500, but Chuck refused and quit.
Alex's comment must be referring to just one specific market or demographic. For America overall, Wheel ALWAYS beats Jeopardy! in ratings with rare exceptions such as the later part of Ken Jennings' streak and the IBM Watson Challenge.

I also correctly answered the trivia question "What year did Wheel of Fortune originally premiere?" which as we know is 1975 so I won *staggers* My heart! One of Jim's trivia questions Jim used was "What was the original name of Wheel of Fortune?" and listed 3 choices which included Shoppers Bazaar. He mentioned the clip was on YouTube and how different and boring it was from the kind of show Wheel of Fortune is today. Wait, what?! Are you saying that Wheel actually knows their original 1973 pilot found its way to YouTube and they're okay with it?Again, I'm very, very shocked. Happy, but shocked. But why would they be looking for this stuff on YouTube anyway unless...unless they deliberately let it leak? Or they know of the video archives? This could indicate that they know of the History Wiki and/or this forum, but a more direct reference would truly cement it.

^ I think some of the retro BRs and clips they've picked have already made it clear that they know about the Wiki.

When the opening to Shopper's Bazaar was first uploaded, I posted the link on the Sony boards.

They apparently canceled the show for 3 days and then quickly realized they had nothing to fill in its slot so they replaced the show with itself until they could find something else. I don't know if that led to Chuck quitting or what. When you mentioned about the show being canceled for 3 days, are you taking about Fred Silverman's attempts to cancel back in 1980? Or does it have something to do about Silverman's veto of Merv's choice of Pat to replace Chuck (Merv responded to that by halting all further tapings of Wheel until he got his wish, which only happened after Silverman left NBC.)

Another week confirmed thanks to Zap2It: "Music Week" (2/04). Sounds fun, but knowing them, it'll probably be more like "Golden Oldies Week".

Disney-fied audience, including some of the Disneyland and Disney World costumed characters: With all they're doing for this promotion, why didn't they just film this at one of the parks?

Well, maybe at least an audience that's on-the-road-like?

The promo clip for this week is particularly one that even for us spoiler people, will leave anyone watching it with regret.
You have been warned.

Have to agree on that one. Saw it earlier today. I'm almost tempted to tell my friends and family to NOT watch the online promo clip when my week of shows comes up, due to the fact that there could be spoilers.

Tell them not to watch it, but they won't look unless they know where to go, or if they have the show "Liked" on Facebook. No matter how many huge spoilers are in it, yours will very likely say at least something about how you did, whether it shows your scoreboard, or if you solved a puzzle, etc.
Also, don't tell them (or us) that you wrote the contestant blog on the show's website if you're the one chosen to write it. That just spoils that you've done really well, and 98% likely won.

One of Jim's trivia questions Jim used was "What was the original name of Wheel of Fortune?" and listed 3 choices which included Shoppers Bazaar. Okay, I'm curious -- what were the other two choices? Also, don't tell them (or us) that you wrote the contestant blog on the show's website if you're the one chosen to write it. That just spoils that you've done really well, and 98% likely won. Wasn't there a lady who wrote the week's contestant blog despite finishing a distant third? The promo clip for this week is particularly one that even for us spoiler people, will leave anyone watching it with regret.
You have been warned. I saw it ( here be some big freaking spoilers), mainly because I don't watch modern Wheel all that much...and what is this, a primetime game show? Dark set? CHECK Crappy music? CHECK $1,000,000 top prize with very low odds of being won? CHECK Usually edited to within an inch of its life? CHECK Spoiler-riffic promos that are inconsistent in what they spoil (see below)? CHECK...AND DOUBLE CHECK Dubbed-in music/voiceovers/audience noise? QUIK-CHECK Gimmicks? CHECKOSLOVAKIA Obscure or nigh-nonsensical puzzles designed to trip players up? ...AND BACK! ...Yeah, actually, it is. Regarding the inconsistency, the subject of the fourth panel is whited out even though the other three show full-on spoilers. Said subject's clip also doesn't show the score display, which may hint at it being a fake spoiler not unlike that "just might have a million reasons to watch" promo from 2010.

The huge problem with this promo is that they completely messed up what should have been hidden. I'll rant about it when it airs.
Also, I highly doubt this is fake (I'll explain later too on that).

I haven't seen the promo, and I'm not going to watch it, and I so hope that WKRN doesn't decide to air like they normally do during the 6 pm news. Is it similar to the one where we all thought the million dollars was gonna be won? If it's really bad about letting stuff out of the bag, c'mon Wheel! Get your act together!

Let's try not to discuss it any further until after Friday's show is over, when it's 100% safe to watch. I haven't watched it myself, and don't really want to know anything about it until it's safe.
