They wouldn't show the reverse on the monitor. It wouldn't be fair.
The only time I've ever heard the crowd shouting "No!", etc. on a Mystery gamble was when the contestant already had $10K+ anyway.

...Dan.
Assuming the audience sees Mystery is plain terrible, it would be a S&P violation. Come on, THINK.

My idea for next season is that the reverse of the Mystery Wedge is always shown to the home audience when the wheel stops. That idea let us know what's on that reverse of the Mystery Wedge whenever or not a contestant lands on the Mystery Wedge and call a correct letter.

My idea is to not show the mystery when the contestant lands on it, but reveal it at the end of the round after Pat signs off into commercials by zooming into the $10000 wedge from an overhead shot and displaying the graphic.

Assuming the audience sees Mystery is plain terrible, it would be a S&P violation. Come on, THINK. Pat sometimes worded it to something like "The audience can see it; what should s/he do?!"), and since "home audience" and "studio audience" tend to be the same thing I said what I did. In this case, it seems...notsomuch.

"Spring Break" taped today. Hopefully this isn't a Culver City College Week. And they're using the beach set. Yay, at least two more beach-themed weeks.

A friend of mine and her dad were accepted as contestants last year for family week... I wonder if there's going to be another family week this season or if she's going to have to wait another year to film. I would go nuts waiting that long. Anyone know if they always do a regular family week, or if Military Families was it for this season?

They could be having a regular Family Week. We still don't know what those Vanna Disney promos are all about.

Today's tapings were for what appears to be a new theme: "Island Hopping", April 8-12.

So we'll basically do it twice that week instead of once like other weeks.

Some behind-the-scenes reports last summer showed the audience doing the title chant, but the show still uses the pre-recorded one. Did your crowd do it, and if so, was it just some kind of warm-up or something?

Jim Thornton got us to do the chant but it was just to warm us up. Something cool he did was trivia in between episodes and the winner got a real American dollar bill autographed by Jim. I thought it was cute. At Jeopardy they handed out tickets for a door prize, at Wheel they had about a dozen keychains and t-shirts to give away to audience members who were the most enthusiastic. Unlike at Jeopardy where Alex spends a lot of time talking to the audience Pat & Vanna said a quick hello. I can't believe they're already taping for April!

Cool. Did you win anything at either show?
Also, were there any microphones hanging above the audience area like at TPIR's studio? I'm pretty sure there aren't (as it sounds like the audience sounds that aren't added in post are only picked up by mics on the stage, as they sound echo-y and distant), but did you see anything?

When I was at Stage 11, waiting for my show to tape, we didn't do a live chant - just an audience warm-up with Jim, like freespin mentioned. He did do some trivia, talked with audience members, and entertained kids with his monologue from "Monsters, Inc." Of course, he got everyone fired up by saying "...and seated to your right are the remaining contestants, any one of whom could become a millionaire!" We got a chance to chat with Jim a couple of times as he was walking to his booth, but not broadcast on his microphone. Also, he acknowledged winning contestants who were coming back from the Green Room and reuniting with their guests. Here are a couple other things I remember.
- In terms of seeing overhanging microphones, I don't recall seeing them. I thought the audience was satisfactorily loud, especially once we got on stage. I even told my guests, "don't be afraid to get loud!" I also told my competitors to feel free to fire up the audience, since I knew that some of the crowd members were losing steam by the time my show (the sixth one of the day) filmed. We'll have to wait and see how the crowd reacted. - The audience coordinators had to "SSSSH!" audience members much more frequently than I would've liked. - Pat and Vanna did come out to address the audience briefly at the start of each taping block. Both times, Vanna didn't have a mike, and had to "talk into Pat's chest." However, Vanna did come out on a separate occasion to take questions. - In between some tapings, or during stopdowns (like to test the board and timer for the Bonus Round), some kids were invited down to the stage floor to take pictures with Vanna. - Unless you absolutely have to, don't sit in the first two rows. The frosted glass will obstruct your view. If you're in the third row, you'll see most of what you need to.

I don't want to get off topic but since you asked I'll answer. At Jeopardy they did 2 draws with each audience (morning and afternoon taping) for a Jeopardy reusable shopping bag and the new Jeopardy PS3 game. Thankfully, I won one of the draws. At Wheel of Fortune I ended up winning two prizes, or I should say my mom won one and I won one. Two girls behind us won dollar bills from Jim who asked my mom to pass them back to the girls. My mom says "Hey, I charge a commission fee" and Jim says "Well I guess you're right" and he gave her one too. Jim also asked who was from out of state and I said I was from Canada so he asked the audience to give me a round of applause for coming so far and I got a key chain. I also correctly answered the trivia question "What year did Wheel of Fortune originally premiere?" which as we know is 1975 so I won a grey t-shirt with the Wheel logo that says "Spin This". I too noticed that Jim payed extra attention to those from out of state plus people with younger kids. You will almost certainly walk away with something if you're loud or say something clever to Jim. I honestly wish Jeopardy did the same. Then again, due to a buzzer breaking down for 30 minutes I did get some face time with Alex because nobody else had questions for him which was better then a t-shirt.
Something else I want to point out is that there is a gift shop that has apparently recently opened up to the general public. Its in the Sony Pictures corporate building on Madison across from the studio and there is free underground parking. For the longest time it was never open to the general public but they have changed the policy. There are two prices on the products (general public price and the employee price). However, if you take the Sony Pictures studio tour for $20 you are also eligible for the employee discount. The shop is grossly overpriced. A Wheel of Fortune reusable water bottle is $7 for employees, $12 for the general public. I told the cashier I just came from a taping and she said she would offer me the employee discount too. The selection of WOF stuff is minimal (keychains, baseball caps, and water bottles) but I was still happy to get something.

I also correctly answered the trivia question "What year did Wheel of Fortune originally premiere?" which as we know is 1975 so I won a grey t-shirt with the Wheel logo that says "Spin This". I wonder if they would have accepted 1983 as well. That WOF gift shop sounds like a total rip-off even with the discount, especially seeing that they have so little. Not even any WOF video/board games or anything? I've always said that they should sell licensed WOF graphic tees in stores. The lack of WOF T-shirts in general (nothing besides the logo and the "SPIN THIS" ones legally exist, it seems) made me buy a custom-made "BANKRUPT" T-shirt I designed online. Thanks for the stories, Arthur and Jonathan. I'll try to make it to another Sony taping as soon as I get the chance, especially seeing that they love out-of-state visitors.

The best and cheapest Wheel of Fortune items usually aren't authentic and can be found on ebay for dirt cheap. At the same time, the studio could make a killing if they had a variety of items even if it was over priced. It would probably cost them $5-$7 to make a t-shirt yet they could sell it for $20. I was disappointed with the lack of selection but I was still happy to come home with something. Most of the studios like NBC and CBS also lack selection (though slightly better then Sony). At the end of the day retail isn't their thing but I know a lot of fans would still like something.
Another thing I wanted to point out was that it is clear Sony has no issues with Wheel of Fortune being posted on YouTube. Jim kept referencing classic clips and said "Its on YouTube, you should check it out".

...Really? That just means at least Jim or Wheel staff doesn't have a problem with it. Sony in general might, seeing they removed so much stuff about a year and a half ago.
Did Jim happen to mention Shopper's Bazaar being on YouTube, per any chance? What are some moments he referred to specifically?
(Let's try to make your response the last post about this subject, because this is getting just a bit too far off-topic and will need to be moved to its own thread if it continues, which isn't a problem, but still...)
