Friedman knows that being on the road is enough of a sweeps stunt, and that few people are going to particularly care about a tough stretch of BRs. Enough of this "stinking up" crap, please, it isn't entirely his fault.

By "a definite shot at the Million", I mean the million dollar envelope would be, by default, out there on the bonus wheel (i.e. wouldn't have to be earned like the current rules specify), you would have a 1-in-24 chance to win it, same as the odds for the $100,000 prize are currently.
And maybe for a breath of fresh air, get rid of the ridiculous padding for time NBC's garbage programs (pardon me, primetime game shows) have become known (and ridiculed by us) for.

Enough of this "stinking up" crap, please, it isn't entirely his fault. Agreed. I would imagine that the puzzle writers DO intentionally make some BRs harder than others, but I really doubt they dictate when easy or hard puzzles are used. Because that would be rigging, which is, you know, kinda illegal. I just think that we got looped into a pretty tough stack of BR puzzles for this month. But if the big win on May 31 is what I think it is, then it will most certainly balance things out. Law of averages and all that.

Friedman knows that being on the road is enough of a sweeps stunt, and that few people are going to particularly care about a tough stretch of BRs. But even "I watch the show every day!" viewers would notice the losses piling up after a while. Enough of this "stinking up" crap, please, it isn't entirely his fault. I agree that it isn't entirely Friedman's fault -- some players have made some particularly-bad moves so far. I would imagine that the puzzle writers DO intentionally make some BRs harder than others, I think that's been pretty clear for a while now, and since Friedman has final say on what puzzles get used it's not really the writers that are at fault (given that everyone on the staff is encouraged to submit puzzle ideas). but I really doubt they dictate when easy or hard puzzles are used. Because that would be rigging, which is, you know, kinda illegal. How is slotting puzzles a form of rigging? I just think that we got looped into a pretty tough stack of BR puzzles for this month. But if the big win on May 31 is what I think it is, then it will most certainly balance things out. Law of averages and all that. If the big win is what all the signs point to it being, then it would make the hard puzzles on the New York shows look a whole lot like damage control.

How much of the average fanbase is watching everyday, is the question. I bet it isn't too much.

It's called "getting the average viewer tuned in, because there are relatively few hardcore viewers who will be pissed off [and will still watch anyway]".
I honestly can't blame them. Letting it slide by with no warning is not maximizing the potential ratings.

"Sometime this week"? We all know that means May 31. Those little birdies specifically named that date as when something big would happen. ...Unless they swap shows just to piss us off. Also, holy crap was that promo so close to one from a primetime network game show, it's not even funny.

To me, this is just like a movie... since I know what's gonna happen, no point in watching it... thanks Sony!

But since they have a reasonable track record to demonstrate that it does more good than harm...naturally, you do it.

If that's true, it's good and all homerjay, but can you back that up? Ratings themselves don't prove that because they don't show what would have happened if no such spoilers were released. I'm more than willing to agree to such a point if you can give the facts behind it.

I'm also curious as to what track record you're talking about. I've lost track of how many game shows have gone the "let's put spoilers in our commercials, that way the audience will definitely watch!" route, although most of them aren't on the air anymore and Millionaire is showing signs of stagnation. Back on December 17, I posted a checklist of how Wheel of Fortune is doing the same things as many primetime network game shows, which seems to be their aspiration since there's way too many similarities for it to possibly be anything else. The look, feel, and format of this promo are very similar to those the primetime network games used.

Yeah, I'm not surprised in the least that they spoiled the big win. Compared to Michelle's win, this is a little bit better since they didn't tell you exactly when it would happen; then again, they could do something stupid at the beginning of the show. I guess they could show Michelle's win as the flashback clip at the start...

That wouldn't be surprising at all...
And for the record, the initial leaks did note the exact date, so some of us knew it all along.

For the record, here's the sequence of events: 1) On February 7, right after the taping of next week's shows, the birds chirp about the specific date. (They've chirped about other big wins in the past.) 2) On March 9, Harry's interviewed by Jason Block (my summary here) and asked whether there will be another million-dollar winner. He says "Stay tuned." 3) This recent promo (seemingly posted May 24) pretty much spells it out in a way akin to a primetime network game show. Everything lines up way too much to be coincidence, so I'm pretty sure the initial song was in fact orchestrated by Friedman (who may have orchestrated such songs before, with the October 2010 "fake millionaire" promo being a Milli Vanilli one ). then again, they could do something stupid at the beginning of the show. I guess they could show Michelle's win as the flashback clip at the start... It'd be all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, which would mean being like a primetime network game show, which means I wouldn't be surprised if they went that route. [Edited to fix info and add a link.]

Well, it's obvious it's gonna happen; I mean, you see a group of hugging people and confetti for a brief second in the clip. That's all the proof you need.

Well, at least it was a surprise for Pat, Vanna, and the audience in the studio.
I'm still going to watch though, because you just can't fabricate a moment like this and it is always pleasurable to watch a genuine one occur, whether I've been spoiled or not.
