Hi, everyone. This is acwof.
Well, after an agonizing two and a half week wait, I finally received THE acceptance letter, which means I am now in the Wheel of Fortune contestant pool.
I'm so excited! Too bad it's going to be a long wait since Wheel of Fortune is wrapping up tapings for this season. Maybe I'll hear something come this summer.
For those who auditioned in Raleigh, check your mailboxes when you can. Maybe, you all got the letter, too.
- acwof

I attended a final audition this morning in Cleveland. There aren't any new additions to the process, but I wanted to emphasize a few points for anyone who has not yet been to an audition: 1) Get there early so you can sit in the front! I was the first person to arrive, at just an hour before the audition started, and several others were right behind me (if you're reading this - hi, Nicole!). Not only did I get to sit right in front of the contestant coordinators, but I also did not have to shout as loudly to be heard. Those who were sitting in the back had to really speak up. We had a pretty large group - I'm guessing over 75 people, with about 10-15 teams/couples. In addition, they let us into the audition room nearly half an hour before the audition started, which is a lot earlier than most others have reported. Give yourself as much time as you can to get there, and aim to be there no later than half an hour beforehand. 2) Be prepared to be called at any time! When you're called, Jackie or Shannon will have already spun for you, so you need to be ready to call a letter immediately. Keep an eye on the Used Letter Board, and have a logical letter or two ready, including a vowel, if any are left. Several people started their turns with Free Play, and they really like it if you call a vowel. 3) Don't panic if you're stumped on the test! When I started, I panicked because I knew maybe two of the first 12 puzzles. I ended up mostly starting my way at the bottom and worked my way up. The ones that stumped me in the first minute came to me a few minutes later. Keep an eye on the clock - they did not give a time warning. 4) Dress the part! More than a few people were wearing t-shirts, sneakers, and/or jeans, which looked out of place. Err on the side of caution if you're not sure. For example, several men had jackets/blazers, although I don't remember any having a tie. I was part of the second look group, which was not a total surprise because I had only participated in one puzzle during the initial rounds. Most players/teams were called twice, and I remember at least one team being called three times. Do not panic if you're asked to stay! Keep your energy up and get ready to talk about yourself. We had nearly an hour in between the end of the test and the start of the second look, so do your best to stay alert and ready to go in case you are asked to stay. Several people I talked to had read this thread or others here on BaV, so we are helping a lot of people out. Let's keep up the good work!

I would say that my previous post now carries a bit more weight - I got the letter today! It seems that the letter has been taking a bit longer than usual to arrive this year. A friend who attended the Des Moines auditions waited over a month for his. Don't panic if you don't receive a letter at the two-week (or even the three-week) mark. I hope that any fellow Cleveland auditioners who get the letter will make themselves known!

Did anyone else attend the recent New York auditions? I attended the morning audition on July 11th 2019 and did the best I could thanks to the helpful information in this thread. So, thank all of you for sharing! I hope to hear some good news from my fellow NY audition-ers in a couple weeks.

Got the email/phone call from the Richmond, Virginia audition very recently!
Details/abbreviated audition report that might help future hopefuls:
- I took a work half-day, so I came in an outfit on the nicer side of business casual (no tie or jacket, but pretty much everything else you'd expect from someone male-presenting trying to look their best). I have facial hair which I trimmed down to something I'd be comfortable wearing to a job interview.
- By the time I had found the venue and parked, even with the get-turned-around time window I always leave myself, the assembled crowd had begun filing into the room so I missed out on a front seat. I grabbed an aisle spot so I would be visible to most of the audition runners throughout its duration.
- I used the aisle seat to my advantage, clapping as noticeably as I could at every possible (appropriate) thing and emoting at successes and failures genuinely but just slightly bigger than I would in a conversation with a friend. I wanted to project a confident, gregarious nerd who loves to see others succeed. I have a good number of school years of acting behind me so this was just a matter of dusting off that experience a bit.
- On the same note, talk to the people near you during breaks! Ask them how far they came, what they'd do with the money, etc. and wish them good luck! Obviously you don't want to be disruptive or intrusive, but being open and chatting with your fellow hopefuls will help put you at ease and might even help sell your gregarious television persona to the audition runners if they catch you initiating conversation.
- In what I knew instantly was a blunder, I phrased my very first letter guess of a 90% solved Same Name puzzle (IVY AND FANTASY LEAGUE) as "Can I get a Y?" They didn't correct me, but I know they hate it and they did correct someone else for it a few turns later. I made extra-sure my guess on a later puzzle was a clear, simple "R."
- I think I performed well but not stellar on the written test; I can't remember exactly how many I got but I think it was 12/16, missing at least two TV shows (THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW and MODERN FAMILY) that should have been obvious and getting only half-completion on a totally brainless Before & After (DENZEL WASHINGTON MONUMENT) that I kicked myself over later that day.
- I WAS NOT ASKED TO STAY FOR THE FOLLOW-UP SESSION. That matches up with what everyone else says, but it bears repeating. If you're not asked to stay behind, smile, make sure the hosts hear you thank them genuinely for the time, and leave confidently. You never know what might be the on-the-fence factor that tips you over. Don't look disappointed! Project the energy that you must have been so good, they saw all they needed to see.
Coming from a Wheelmobile event had to have been my saving grace here. I really don't know that my live audition would have stood on its own, but my "Pat Chat" at the Wheelmobile was, I'm quite sure, a 9.5/10 that I had loosely rehearsed all day after I heard the third person in a row talk about having a dog and kids as their only defining traits. I gave Marty unique, fun details different from what anyone else had said all day and set him up for a big slam-dunk laugh about how I could finally use money from the show to move out of my parents' house.
What you should take away from all this is that a few isolated mistakes might not sink you, as I'm sure I made even more than the ones I caught after the fact. You've got this! No one can believe in you more than you, so sell that belief to the audition runners!
EDIT: Reinserted puzzle answers, thanks MarioGS!

^ Considering all the final audition puzzles are taken directly from recent episodes of the show, they're fine to mention.

Anyone else besides me had their final audition in Detroit on June 4th?
On May 12, I applied online for the show and sent in my video attached to it. Ten days later on May 22nd I looked at my college email and saw that Wheel had sent me an invite to a final audition on June 4th in Detroit. I was extremely ecstatic. On audition day, I didn't feel any nerves at all and felt right at home with the CCs. I got called during the regular mock games and guessed a letter that was in the puzzle and solved "IVY & FANTASY LEAGUE" (Is it ok to post puzzles from the audition?)
The Contestant Exam Did surprisingly good in this portion of the audition solving at least 11/16 puzzles correctly; surprisingly impressive for me, an 18 year old who recently graduated from high school and soon to be incoming freshman at Ball State University in a little over a week from now.
The Intense Mock Games I was asked to stay for the more intense games. Looking back, I'm not surprised since they only saw me call one letter and solve the puzzle, but my excitement for myself and everyone else was off the charts! I solved a puzzle against the group I played against then the contestant intros was nice.
Overall, I was very excited the entire time and clapped really hard for myself and everyone else!
Still waiting for a letter as it has been 8 weeks (2 months) since my audition (As of 8/4/19) starting to get a tad worried
P.S. You know how the CCs want you to just say the letter? Well I decided to take it a step further and applied it to when I wanted to spin, buy a vowel, or solve. For BAV I simply said "Vowel, (Insert vowel here)", for Solve, "Solve (then goes into saying the solution taking my time saying every word in the puzzle)", etc. to help move the game further along

I was in the morning session on June 4th. Were you morning or afternoon?
After two months it's not looking good, but there's always hope that your letter got lost and you'll get a phone call from them randomly! And if not, you have many years left to try, try again. Sounds like you did everything right during the audition. Perhaps there's a preference for Wheelmobile participants?

I was in the 3pm afternoon audition; perhaps the have higher priority for those invited from the Wheelmobile audition; I do know that me and another person (She happened to be a college student like myself) were the only people from the online applications they’d invited to the audition.
There is 3 people at my audition that told me they haven’t received their letters and they were with me when we were all asked to stay for the more intense games.

I was morning, so that explains why I don't remember a soon-to-be Ball State student at my audition. I also learned today that after the letter you get e-mailed your tape date, not called. So maybe you'll get a random e-mail if the letter got misdirected. Best of luck!
