Just realized I will be forever at the bottom of this list unless either a former contestant who played before the Pity Thousand comes out from the shadows and makes themselves known here on the boards or I'm given a second chance to play. And neither are very likely to happen! I'd say the most likely thing to happen based on the changes this season is that the show goes back to giving away consolation prizes instead of $1,000. Don't give up hope! |

I'd say the most likely thing to happen based on the changes this season is that the show goes back to giving away consolation prizes instead of $1,000. Don't give up hope! What changes are you talking about? I would think, based on trends, that perhaps the consolation prize would be sponsored like on Jeopardy. However, I can't see them getting rid of it. |

^ He's talking about the several cost-cutting changes the show made this season because of a lower budget: Reducing two $900 wedges to $600 and an $800 to $650, no longer giving cash with cars won in the Bonus Round (which started in Season 28 with $5,000, then was briefly reduced to $3,000 in mid-Season 31, then back to $5,000 in Season 32 before being dropped this season), the Bonus Round cars being cheaper than usual (see the $24K car won last Thursday which brought us the lowest-winning contestant to win the Bonus Round since 2009), and not doing any tapings on location (a long-standing tradition since Season 6, with Season 8 being the only exception until now).
They definitely won't get rid of the consolation prize because that would be something that most of the public would notice and call them out on. Reducing a few Wheel wedges is something only the hardcore crowd would notice or care about. Same for dropping the car's cash bonus as opposed to, say, getting rid of the million dollars.

I hope this isn't because they're in trouble with rating/advertising wise? It seems like peanuts but I guess it all adds up... Has more to do with the parent company (Sony) bleeding money than ratings (the show also makes them a fortune in licensing for slot machines, merchandising, etc.). Even if you're a cash cow, they're going to cut everywhere to try and bring the company's overall number back to the black. |

With the addition of Alan from Monday's show and taking into account everyone whose shows have yet to air this season (11 of you, according to my record-keeping), we're well on track to break that record.
