Sony claims another one, it seems. Dozens of classic Wheel and Jeopardy! episodes could previously be found on the site courtesy of user " kingskip". While the account is still up, the videos are all gone.

Damn.
At least I managed to recap my favorite episodes. Well, except for Randy/Shawn/Carolyn, the first day of Sweethearts Week 1996, and Pamela Binder's first appearance. Ah well.
I miss the old board even more now that I hear about this.

...Oh, ****. Well, there goes most of Seasons 12-14...
Kingskip must have had...what, 500 Wheel episodes at least? And that's probably a lowball estimate.

We can try to search for replacements, I've been searching, and there are definitely options for replacing SOME of those episodes. But yeah, that's half of the American Wheel Archive gone. Most of Season 10 as well. And a lot of Season 6....

^ Most of Seasons 7-20 (and some of 21). I'm sure dedicated Jeopardy! followers are in shock too.

^ Someone who uploads outside of YouTube? I don't think they're ever going to give up. I'm confident that episodes will resurface.

Too bad that RuTube is one video-sharing site where various video downloading plugins and application (which work flawlessly with YouTube, Facebook, and DailyMotion) didn't work. I know at least one YouTube user sometimes uploaded screen recordings of some RuTube uploads.

^ I think I have an idea who you're talking about, but his channel was (or maybe just the videos were) taken down. One of the videos I saw captured that way was Jeopardy's infamous June 12, 1998.

I appreciate that, but personally...I really don't want to think about how much is going to have to be done. (Good thing I didn't try to make Video Archives for Jeopardy! ) One thing I will say right now, though: no pages will be moved, condensed into others, or deleted until after the cleanup/replacements, and then only after the remainder is assessed to determine what individual seasons (of 7, 12, 13, 14, 27, 28, 29, and 30) should still have their own dedicated subpages.

Sony claims another one, it seems. Not quite sure why we need to be upset about a company enforcing its copyright. The episodes don't belong to this user and were posted illegally, and this site doesn't (or didn't?) condone illegal activity or hope for this to continue in other locations around the internet. On perhaps the brighter side, could Sony taking an active look at their IP combined with the new website mean the introduction of some Sony-controlled classic clips?

I just don't understand why they're going after Wheel episodes? It's not like they're losing any money because of the existence of those episodes on the web, they don't have any classic episodes on their website and they're not selling DVD collections of episodes either. (However if they did want to sell seasons of Wheel of Fortune on DVD/BluRay, I would be more than happy to buy it.) I'm upset mostly because I enjoyed watching those episodes. I don't really care too much about copyright law to tell you the truth. That's just how I feel.

Because it's their property. That's why. They don't need a reason other than that.
If someone comes takes something of mine, even if I don't really need it, I'm going to go get it back. Why? Because it's mine. Principle of the matter. It doesn't belong to you.
I've unlocked this thread, because I may have locked it too quickly- but if this spirals into "I don't care about the law, gimme my Wheel now, dammit!", it's over.

I've unlocked this thread, because I may have locked it too quickly- but if this spirals into "I don't care about the law, gimme my Wheel now, dammit!", it's over. I understand fully that it's their property and right to take it down I just don't understand why they'd do it. Yes, I was a little upset the day the videos were removed because they were such a great resource for writing recaps. I had a feeling for about a month that kingskip's Rutube channel was about to be taken down because his entire channel went private on Youtube. I liked the videos on kingskip's channel being available because you couldn't see those classic episodes anywhere else. And now, fans of Wheel have even less resources for things like wiki-editing and writing recaps. The reason I don't really care about the law too much is because these corporations have people's videos removed for having a song faintly playing in the background while they are recording something and then calling "COPYRIGHT!". People often have a TV on in the background when they are recording something unrelated, and then BOOM, their videos are removed. So, I'm sorry if I seem so unsympathetic towards large corporations, but I don't really think they deserve much sympathy.

Don't get me wrong. I think it sucks. The classic recap section was starting to get filled up again after months and months of inactivity caused by the last major purge, which is awesome...I have nothing but thanks for you folks who have stepped up to help us rediscover these classic episodes. It is my goal to make this site the number one source of Wheel of Fortune information (outside of the official website, of course), and having these recaps available helps us compile a detailed history of the show for anyone interested in learning more about it.
But the fact of the matter is that it's their property, and they have every right to claim permissions for it and extend a takedown notice. Your opinion on the matter is a different beast entirely, but facts are facts...and the fact of the matter is, by posting copyrighted material online, said user (or anybody else who does, for that matter) was risking major legal sanctions.

I think part of the problem (if you want to call it that) is that companies will take down videos uploaded online but have no official means for viewers to watch their programming (in the case of Wheel, episodes older than the previous season). It looks especially bad since Jeopardy! has had a DVD release (albeit a kinda-sucky one mostly focused on Season 21) and classic episodes can be viewed on Crackle, whereas Wheel has no classic episodes available through any official avenue. It is my goal to make this site the number one source of Wheel of Fortune information (outside of the official website, of course) Well, as far as historical info goes I'd say we're #1.

Chris Bryant has a lot on his account. We'd better hurry and recap those before Sony sees those too.
