Thanks a cool pic. I wonder how many other wedges are joined together.

Can someone explain the reasoning behind this? I didn't realize how many pieces were joined together. Like, what is that section #4 so big when the only thing that changes is the top dollar amount? Couldn't that just be 1 replaceable wedge? I love this behind the scenes stuff, BTW. Sad I won't be actually getting to see them change out the wedges when I'm taping as I read they make you step off and turn around.

Back when there were no electronic wedges on the Wheel, the layout was split into only two halves. When they made Free Play, they scrapped the normal wedge in its place (a yellow $400 at the time) and cut that half of the layout to put on either side of Free Play since its structure is to complex to just be placed on and lifted off.
Until Jackpot's retirement, Jackpot was a little simpler. It had a cord that plugged into a socket on the Wheel, which was accessed through a hole in the middle of a blank red wedge where the $700 goes. When Jackpot wasn't used, the red $700 ($300 before Season 30) was a standalone wedge that was placed on top to cover up the hole.
Since Express has a very similar design to Free Play, it also needs more than just plugging in, so they cut away the red wedge altogether from the other half of the layout, splitting it into two different parts, too.
The top dollar values are all on their own wedges. There's a blank black wedge in its place on the bare layout and they are simply stuck on. You can watch them swap out the wedges from the audience. It's actually really cool to watch them carefully maneuver the Mystery Wedges when putting them on so that nobody catches a glimpse of either reverse side.

I have two questions about this: 1. What is the difference between Jackpot and Express? I mean, you say that it needs more than plugging... Is it because the wedge is semitransparent when not plugged? 2. How do you know this?

^ MarioGS sweats WOF knowledge.
So, when they change a dollar amount, they have to create a whole new section?

I like that Jim doesn't describe the prize on the wheel now unless someone wins it.
I also like the new toss-up logos.
It appears that Pat's display screen is no longer clouds. It's plain green.
Side note: I really liked that safari prize wedge. It was like a little tribute to Cecil.

Off topic: do you get anything for entering the bonus puzzle answer on wof's site?

So, am I correct in assuming that next week's "Home Sweet Home" episodes will have the new wheel layout?

^ Yes. After this week, we will not be seeing the "old" layout again until Weekend Getaways, starting October 4.

I noticed a small cosmetic change on at least the $33K envelope. On the WOF logo, the "rings" around the Wheel shape are gone, so it's only the wedges surrounding the "of". Hopefully we'll find out soon if the other envelopes are like this.

^At the rate the $33,000 are popping up, it'll probably be a long time before we see another amount.

Is it just me, or did they change the font for the insides of the envelope there?

^The font does look thiner...
Do they do spin IDs for the Saturday repeats?
