Second audition written test

I would not give up hope yet -- the show is on taping hiatus for a couple of weeks yet, so they may not be working their regular hours and sending letters as regularly as they normally do while in season... long shot, but I am still pulling for you!

I took mine in 2006 and probably got about half right and a couple partials, but missed the cut at that point. I was in college and you really do need to think with the categories and familiar letters in mind, as you often recognize certain words by various letters; this can make it easy to pick up some, but miss others. Looking at the two practice tests, I aced the ON THE MAP and PHRASE categories (the former being  my good geography skills and the latter being my favorite category on the show), did pretty good on PROPER NAME (only missed the last one), and found AROUND THE HOUSE the toughest (not much easier than the THING as someone was fearing, and I believe one of the categories was THING at the time). I'd say the time limit is probably what makes it tense, since that means less than 20 seconds per puzzle, which isn't too much longer than a BR puzzle. Given that contestants solve the BR only about a third of the time, if you're solving at least half of these, you're doing fairly decent, and unlike the BR, partial credit can help along the way. 

Nope.... but he stayed for every session for both days of the event. We figured they may log everyone into a database/spreadsheet and seeing his name 6 times would indicate how serious he was!
