- $5K Every Day is retired. To replace it, a lucky Wheel Watchers Club member will win $10,000 cash whenever the Mystery $10,000 is won. Besides the category selection for the Bonus Round, this is the change that is most interesting to me. In a standard season of 195 episodes without repeats, the show was offering just shy of a million dollars with this giveaway. Based on Wayo's analysis of 1000 shows, there's a 7.4% chance of the Mystery wedge being won on a given episode. So, over the course of the season, we would expect this to happen roughly 15 times. The show has then reduced its potential expense on WWC from $975,000 a season to $150,000 a season - an almost 85% drop in budget! They might also choose to not repeat shows with Mystery wins to either avoid questions about the missing bonus or give away any additional money. The one unknown in all of this is how many of these bonuses are actually claimed. Given the strict time limits around contacting the show to get your winnings, it wouldn't shock me if the claim rate was as low as 10% from people missing the episode, giving incorrect information, or being ineligible. Don't forget about Secret Santa, which has always been two weeks minimum, so technically, the show would give $925K cash plus the Secret Santa winnings over the season. For Season 34, only 105 episodes had $5K Every Day, so that's only $525K plus Secret Santa winnings (which, unfortunately for them, had the only $100K win of the season). Here are the number of Mystery wins per season dating back to Season 25. Stats courtesy of Wayoshi and Game Show News Net. Season 25: 9 Season 26: 9 Season 27: 18 Season 28: 12 Season 29: 13 Season 30: 14 Season 31: 13 Season 32: 16 Season 33: 17 Season 34: 11 The average is 13.2, which is about 6.7% of the season, or about once every three weeks. In terms of reruns, they will probably just not include the SPIN ID drawing, or like you said, they might exclude weeks and shows that had Mystery wins. Surely they do have the budget from all this to add in a new one on a rerun if they don't bother with either of those options, though.

I feel as though the new stuff they are bringing to Season 35 is pretty interesting. I love the fact how a contestant gets to choose what category they want for the bonus round. I also have to agree with previous comments about removing categories such as Thing or Title. Especially Title. They have TV Title, Song Title, Movie Title, and even Book Title. So why keep the Title category? Makes no sense to me.

Book Title is actually not used on the show proper, only in licensed games. The show does use "Best Seller". Otherwise, Title is usually used for non-best-selling books, poems, plays, musicals, magazines, or titles that exist in multiple popular adaptations.

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? ---seriously?! Why don't they just eliminate the "Thing/Things" category....it seems so obsolete now. This is just another sign of having to "dumb down" the show for the contestants of today. Frankly, I was waiting for a clothing-themed category. It just made sense. And considering that Thing is still the most used category behind Phrase, they clearly aren't running out of Things to use. The show does use "Best Seller". Best Seller is dead. Twice in ten years is a good enough frequency to say so.

Book Title is only used in video game adaptations? I never knew that. Then maybe it is a good idea to keep Title around. Just as long as it's not for a song, movie, or TV show.

Most infamously used in Galoob's Mr. Game Show game Famous Phrases. In this round we're looking for a........Book Title. It's worth ONE THOOOUSAND DOLLARS. First let's mark the blanks. Give it your best shot. Player 1 Spin The Lights.

Before going to commercial at the end of the main game, the winner of the game gets to choose from one of three categories for the Bonus Round puzzle they will play. These choices can and will include categories that are now considered rare in the Bonus Round, including some that have not been used in several years. I like this idea.

I wonder if "The 20s-60s" & "The 00s" will be used or if it'll be the same old 70s-90s.

Another change that was just brought to my attention:
Because it's Wheel's 35th anniversary since their start (in syndication) in 1983, "The 80's" is being branched out into sub-categories, much like what they did during Retro Week in 1999. There is 80's Song Lyrics, 80's Movie Title, 80's Event, and 80's Headline. A puzzle used during Weekend Escapes was categorized as just "The 80's" and was of a Song/Artist format.

That is pretty cool. I wonder if they would do that for the other decades. Or if it's just with the 80s.

Was it ever mentioned or confirmed if the theme and cues were the same? I know some people have been to tapings.

I'm interested to see how it goes. Thankfully, I get DirecTV back before the season premiere, so I'll be able to catch up. Not a fan of the Crossword category, but it might grow on me.

Is anyone live streaming or is there a place where I can watch a live stream of the premiere on Monday night? My affiliate, WKRN, is showing the dreaded Tennessee Titans show at 6:30 and have preempted Wheel until 1:35am... 😡

and have preempted Wheel until 1:35am... 😡 All things considering, I have a feeling this will happen in a lot of places. I'm sure they'll do reruns and stuff.
