For Season 35, there are more changes than just the obligatory Bonus Round cash minimum raise to $35,000.
- There is a new category called "What Are You Wearing?". Also, the decade categories have returned from hiatus once again. They were last used regularly from Seasons 30-31 and a single Season 32 episode in February 2015.
- Before going to commercial at the end of the main game, the winner of the game gets to choose from one of three categories for the Bonus Round puzzle they will play. These choices can and will include categories that are now considered rare in the Bonus Round, including some that have not been used in several years.
- $5K Every Day is retired. To replace it, a lucky Wheel Watchers Club member will win $10,000 cash whenever the Mystery $10,000 is won.
- The show is now offering trips to Cuba.
All aspects of the main game remain the same.

Note to future players: I would avoid PHRASE and THING at all costs for the Bonus Round now since you KNOW there's going to be at LEAST one alternative to those. Not flashy to folks at home, but this is an awesome change for BAV members and advantage players (APs). Pick smartly!
Also really like the clothing category. Makes perfect sense to have a differentiation between that and Around the House/Thing. Pretty versatile too, since something like SCHOOL UNIFORM works for a speed up or BR, while a long puzzle involving a FESTIVE GRASSY HULA SKIRT works well for a PP. Well done on the changes, Wheel! Can't wait to see the new intro involving past to present I've heard about, as well.

Creative new category, but the BR category choices will be really interesting. I can't wait to see this in September.

Choosing a category? Not sure if I'm going to get used to that. I feel like it takes away from the challenge element.

A couple more tips were just received:
- $5K Every Day is retired. To replace it, a lucky Wheel Watchers Club member will win $10,000 cash whenever the Mystery $10,000 is won.
- The show is now offering trips to Cuba.
Speaking of the Mystery Round, the wipe is still outdated. Not surprised at all since they were still using the one with the Season 25 layout all the way through Season 31, at which point all but one of the wedges pictured in the shot had changed.

Hmm, they really slashed the WWC budget. Not that I mind at all - if that goes into giving away more / allocating Secret Santa better, that's exactly what they should be doing.
On first glance it seems like BR win rate would go up - people can choose the most specific category given to them and gain an edge - but we'll see just how much of an effect it really is. If I was going on the show though I would be very comforted not having to face THING/PHRASE in the BR guaranteed... although worst-case you could still get stuck with a contrived WAYD/EVENT.

Now, some of us are envious of the future players that are going to be on the show because of these changes. For some, it would be choosing a category for the Bonus Round, but for me, why was the $10,000 Mystery Wedge Sweepstakes not introduced back then? Somebody could have been shouting "Boo-yah!" along with me for winning it.

As far as I'm concerned, yes. Although I really hope I DON'T have to face one when my date eventually arrives. Not saying I don't like them, but I'd prefer a pure game.

I like the Crosswords. Their easy because the puzzle uses letters in 2 words. I hope they didn't retire it. If they did it only lasted for 1 season and a week

Are crosswords still around? Yes, still with the same frequency as before - about three times per week. I like the Crosswords. Their easy because the puzzle uses letters in 2 words. I hope they didn't retire it. If they did it only lasted for 1 season and a week They're actually made to be difficult and to save money, so they'll never retire it. Seeing that the budget still hasn't improved much, I think it's safe to say that, despite the rumors, there still won't be any remote tapings.

I only hope that I don't get one of those "what the heck is that missing word?" crosswords. Or worse, a case like FETA/BETA where there's a perfectly valid missolve waiting to happen.

Does anyone know are the graphics the same or different as far as the category strips, toss-up logo, final spin graphic, etc...

- There is a new category called "What Are You Wearing?". Calling it now: some variant of HAWAIIAN SHIRT for the Trip Puzzle. - Before going to commercial at the end of the main game, the winner of the game gets to choose from one of three categories for the Bonus Round puzzle they will play. Wait, wait, hold on, wait - they're using a (modified) element from Wheel 2000?! Can't say I saw that day coming. Still, I love this idea, especially the fact that rarer categories will be showing up...but I'm kinda wary for two reasons: * Will the three categories always be linked to three different puzzles? Many puzzles can fit multiple categories, such as MOBY DICK (which could be put under Fictional Character and Best Seller). * How will this affect gameplay length? The time for the category choice and preceding explanation has to come from somewhere, and I'm wondering how early they'll sound the Speed-Up bells to compensate.

To see that they're bringing an idea introduced in Wheel 2000 sounds pretty interesting, WarioSajak . I still remember Wheel 2000 like it was yesterday and was wondering when someone was going to bring that up. It's funny how that in Wheel 2000 you did this in the maingame but not in the Bonus Round and that the regular version is going vice-versa with it. Even so, I wonder if choosing from three categories will make the Bonus Round too easy similar to what wipeoutman33 said. Someone may choose a category that they're good at. For example, I'm pretty good with categories such as On The Map and Landmark. If I was given those category choices, I'd choose either one of them without much hesitation.

Does anyone know are the graphics the same or different as far as the category strips, toss-up logo, final spin graphic, etc... I certainly hope the on-screen graphics will be different this upcoming season, especially since we had the music changes midway into last season. - the current category strips have been in use since Season 26, although they've been given a shiny effect during Season 30 and the ripple animation for main puzzle solves in Season 33. - final spin graphic also needs to change. Prior to Season 31, the final spin graphic changed every two seasons, with the exception of the one used Season 26 (it was only used that season). - or they could retire the final spin graphic entirely - The current tossup logo was recolored from purple to dark blue in Season 33 but is esentially the same one used since Season 27. I would like to see a new one with a different font - They should also change the end credits to a new font - I am also wondering if the Sony Pictures Studios intro will be retired and the opening will feature a collage of flashback videos instead - On a similar thread I hoped for a set overhaul because the current set dates back to Season 21, though it received several minor changes during its run, especially since the transition to HD; but I noticed the set is still the same (at least for the first half of the season). However, maybe they would debut a new set mid-season like they did with new music package

I really like the spin on the bonus round categories. This could be fun! Although, I bet 99% of the time 2 of the choices will be THING & PHRASE.
WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? ---seriously?! Why don't they just eliminate the "Thing/Things" category....it seems so obsolete now. This is just another sign of having to "dumb down" the show for the contestants of today.

Will the three categories always be linked to three different puzzles? Many puzzles can fit multiple categories, such as MOBY DICK (which could be put under Fictional Character and Best Seller). ^Or simply TITLE. Regarding the decade categories: I'm not sure why they use these. They should just use TV TITLE, SONG TITLE, or MOVIE TITLE since they always involve TV shows, songs, and movies. If the 3 choices in the BR are PERSON, PEOPLE, & PROPER NAME, I could see this causing confusion because the basic player doesn't know the difference between the 3.

- $5K Every Day is retired. To replace it, a lucky Wheel Watchers Club member will win $10,000 cash whenever the Mystery $10,000 is won. Besides the category selection for the Bonus Round, this is the change that is most interesting to me. In a standard season of 195 episodes without repeats, the show was offering just shy of a million dollars with this giveaway. Based on Wayo's analysis of 1000 shows, there's a 7.4% chance of the Mystery wedge being won on a given episode. So, over the course of the season, we would expect this to happen roughly 15 times. The show has then reduced its potential expense on WWC from $975,000 a season to $150,000 a season - an almost 85% drop in budget! They might also choose to not repeat shows with Mystery wins to either avoid questions about the missing bonus or give away any additional money. The one unknown in all of this is how many of these bonuses are actually claimed. Given the strict time limits around contacting the show to get your winnings, it wouldn't shock me if the claim rate was as low as 10% from people missing the episode, giving incorrect information, or being ineligible.

Thanks for crunching the numbers... it certainly is a slash to that budget. Whether it is the main budget is unclear, though.
It will also be fun to track the BR categories and all the permutations of stats that will come from having a pick-from-3 situation. I need to finish up 34 and prepare...
