ATTN: NYC market viewersThe NYC Big Three will be rotating broadcasts of NYC mayoral debates in the coming weeks, one of which will affect Wheel this week. The full lineup of televised debates thus far is as follows. Wed, June 2:
- Debate will air on WABC from 7-9 PM, pre-empting Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and a new episode of Press Your Luck.
- Most TV listings and WABC's site schedule have the debate scheduled for only 7-8 with PYL following it, but articles on WABC's site claim it will run from 7-9.
- The Wed-Fri episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel will air on a one-day delay. The Saturday reruns will air at 5:00 and 5:30 AM Saturday morning, with Friday's episodes airing at the usual 7:00 and 7:30 PM.
- Since Press Your Luck is still listed on most sources, it is unknown when, or if, Wednesday's episode will air.
The second hour of the debate will only be streamed online, so PYL will air as normal.

While going through the listings for these shows, I noticed that both of my local NBC stations, WNBC and WVIT, both O&O's, are pre-empting Access Hollywood at 7:30 on Thursday and Friday, June 17-18, but it doesn't say what for, so I don't know if this is going to be a national thing (which would mean Wheel pre-emptions in several markets), or if it's local or for the O&O's only It's national, likely the US Open which is on NBC this year. Zap2It's Wheel page goes up to Friday 6/18 if you plug in New York listings, but only up to Wednesday 6/16 if you plug in Atlanta, where Wheel airs on NBC affiliate WXIA at 7:00. Likewise, NBC Nightly News is listed for 6/17, but not 6/18. Looks like Wheel will be pre-empted on all NBC affiliates (at least on the East Coast) on June 17 and 18, and possibly the 19th as well since the US Open is until the 20th. Wheel will be in reruns then, so not many stations will probably make the effort to make up Wheel. |

Wednesday's Wheel was pre-empted on KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa (NBC) by a COVID vaccine roundtable special. It will air at 1:02 AM Friday night/Saturday morning. KWWL has no consistency whatsoever on when they decide to move Wheel to CW when pre-empted, or bump it to late Friday night. The Saturday rerun aired on CW at its normal time due to the all-day sports coverage.
Also, KDVR once again did not air Saturday Wheel because of MLB running over an hour late.

Orlando has two pre-emptions at the end of this week on WFTV (ABC).
Due to the fifth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting, WFTV is airing two memorial specials on Friday 6/11 and Saturday 6/12. The Saturday rerun and Friday's episode will air back-to-back after the 11:00 news late Saturday night - 11:35 PM and 12:05 AM Eastern at the earliest, but they will slide back if the primetime NBA game overruns. Listings list the time slots as 11:30 and 12:00, and the former is erroneously listed as Wednesday's episode (which was not pre-empted) instead of Friday's. DVR-ers should schedule Hot Topics listed at 12:30 to record as well.
WFTV also pre-empted last Saturday's rerun with one of their "9 Family Connection" specials and it did not air at all, as ABC had sports for most of the weekend, and the special re-aired at 11:35 PM Saturday, the common make-good slot for Wheel. At least they're now airing those specials on weekends instead of weekdays.

Wednesday's episode was pre-empted on at least WHP in Harrisburg, PA (CBS) for a special on Pennsylvania's reopening. The special aired on at least most Sinclair-owned stations based in Pennsylvania, including WOLF in Scranton and WPGH in Pittsburgh. The only other Sinclair PA station that carries Wheel is WATM in Johnstown (ABC), but there is no indication that they aired the special; there is nothing on their site about it, and Wheel is not listed in the early Thursday lineup on their site's schedule.
WHP aired Wednesday's Wheel at 2:07 AM Eastern.

Also, KDVR once again did not air Saturday Wheel because of MLB running over an hour late. This time, half of Wheel managed to air on KDVR. It cut in shortly into R3. NBA ran until about 11:12 ET. One of the contestants on tonight's rerun is affected by this since she's from Portland, and KATU refuses to air Wheel in its entirety when sports or political events run long, so she'll only get to see it from about R3 onward. The original airing of this episode (4/22/20) was pre-empted on WABC and WPVI by a COVID benefit concert. Both stations aired it at the normal 7:30 tonight. |

Here is the scheduling for the US Open on NBC affiliates, including Sunday, since KHQ in Spokane, Washington airs Weekend Wheel on Sundays instead of Saturdays:
Thursday, June 17 (RR 1/21/21): 7-10 PM Eastern (Wheel affected in ET, CT, MT, Arizona, and on most PT stations)
Friday, June 18 (RR 1/22/21): 6-9 PM Eastern (Wheel affected in ET, CT, and MT)
Saturday, June 19 (RR 1/3/20): 11 AM-9 PM Eastern (Wheel affected nationally; additional live sports follow)
Sunday, June 20: 12-8 PM Eastern (Wheel affected on KHQ by subsequent live sports)
All US Open broadcasts will be followed by Olympic trial sporting events. These will not be aired live on the West Coast on Thursday and Friday, but will be aired live on the weekend, meaning Wheel will air mostly in primetime slots on Saturday (or Sunday) in PT markets. SNL will not be aired live on the West Coast on 6/19 because it's a repeat.
On Thursday, PT airings of Wheel are not directly impacted by the Open. However, the stations have the option to air local news at 7:00 PT and move Wheel an hour later to 8:00 or 8:30, which many are doing. All Pacific Time Zone stations will air Wheel at the normal time on Friday, since the US Open ends at 6:00 Pacific.

Another Buffalo Kickoff Live is airing tonight, pre-empting syndie Wheel in three upstate New York markets. WROC Rochester (CBS): Airing at 1:37 AM Eastern WIVB Buffalo (CBS): Airing on WNLO (CW) WETM Elmira (NBC): Airing on 18.2 (Antenna TV)
Unbelievable. Of the three stations that pre-empted the 1/21 episode the first time, two of them are pre-empting it again tonight, resulting in what is usually a rare case of the same episode getting pre-empted twice in the same market.
WIVB is airing it this time. WETM is not, due to the US Open, which is beyond their control. WROC is choosing to bump an episode that they already bumped before. The first time wasn't really in their control since Buffalo Kickoff Live is produced by WIVB and simulcast on other stations, but tonight's special is specifically produced by WROC.

Two updates for tonight:
KBJR in Superior, WI/Duluth, MN will indeed be airing at least Thursday and Friday's Wheels on its sister MyNetworkTV station.
WHO in Des Moines will air the weekday episodes at 2:00 AM Central, still listed as Early Today. During past pre-emptions, WHO used to move Wheel early to 3:00 or 3:30 PM to replace Daytime Jeopardy!. WHO told me they will no longer be doing this for now because they don't want to pre-empt Alex Trebek episodes, even if they're repeats.

WJFW in Wausau, Wisconsin actually aired Wheel at its regular time on Thursday and Friday. This is the only Wheel NBC I've found that's doing this. They opted to air the pre-7:00 Central coverage of the US Open on its Cozi TV subchannel, then cut it off there and resume it on NBC starting at 7:00. On Saturday, all of the coverage will air on NBC, so there will be no Weekend Wheel.  |

There may be another address tonight from Biden. Biden cut in at about 7:20 Eastern, but CBS is the only Big Four network that is airing his address as of 7:23. CBS signed off at about 7:46. 7:30 airings of Wheel should have been back on during R3.

WABC once again has Weekend Wheel at 5:00 AM Sunday due to an hour-long special on the NYC Pride Parade tomorrow. Also, WPXI Pittsburgh is still airing Weekend Wheel at 4:00 AM Saturday mornings due to their local Penguins show 11 on the Ice. I might as well declare this Wheel's permanent weekend slot since it's aired there almost every weekend since the start of the season. Although now that the Penguins are out of the playoffs, maybe this will change, though listings still have Wheel listed at both 4:00 AM and 7:30 PM each Saturday until the latter usually changes to 11 on the Ice sometime during the week. WPXI is now airing Weekend Wheel twice. I caught it at 4:00 AM this morning as usual, and it is also airing right now at 7:30 PM, the same episode. This is likely an oversight on their part since no run of Wheel is allowed to air twice a day. They probably still have it set to automatically slot at 4:00 AM even though their Penguins show is done. I definitely remember once their Steelers show ended for the season, 4:00 AM was replaced with Just for Laughs Gags, but Wheel has been airing in that slot, regardless of what's on at 7:30, for at least the past few months. Yes, I get up at 4:00 AM on Saturdays just to verify if the rerun is the correctly listed episode. |

The NBA Finals situation this year is a bit complicated. The good news is that no first-run episodes of Wheel are impacted this year since the Finals are in July instead of June. The bad news is that multiple Summer Secret Santa episodes, which are reruns with new SPIN ID's, are impacted.
The Finals' start date and some of the other game dates are dependent on whether the Eastern Conference Finals (Bucks/Hawks) lasts the maximum seven games or not. As of 6/28, it's 2-1. All of the Conference Finals games are either on ESPN or TNT, not ABC, so Wheel won't be affected until July.
Going by precedent, ABC game coverage is expected to start at 8:30 Eastern/6:30 Mountain/5:30 Pacific. All Pacific ABC airings of Wheel will be affected. There are only two Mountain ABC's that carry Wheel, and one of them is in Arizona, which is on Pacific Time during DST. The other is KOTA in Rapid City, South Dakota, which airs Wheel at 6:00 and Jeopardy! at 6:30, so that airing won't be affected, unless they opt to move J! to 6:00 and replace it (they've never done that before, but there's a chance they might this time since J! is entirely new). These are all the days Pacific and Arizona ABC airings of Wheel will be affected regardless of how many games ECF goes: - Game 1 or 2: Thursday, July 8 (12/3/20, Shopping Spree Day 4, Christina/Chris/Sheryl)
- Game 3 or 4: Wednesday, July 14 (12/9/20, Secret Santa Day 3, Tasha/Jeff/Nyaesha)
- Game 6 (if necessary): Tuesday, July 20 (12/15/20, Secret Santa Day 7, Sean/Diana/Jen)
- Game 7 (if necessary): Thursday, July 22 (12/17/20, Secret Santa Day 9, Giavanni/Dawn/Cary)
If the Eastern Conference Finals does go to seven games, Wheel will be affected on: - Game 4: Friday, July 16 (12/11/20, Secret Santa Day 5, Maral/Stephanie/Xavier)
If the Eastern Conference Finals does not go to seven games, Wheel will be affected on: - Game 1: Tuesday, July 6 (12/1/20, Shopping Spree Day 2, James/Kathy/Michelle)
- Game 5 (if necessary): Saturday, July 17 (10/18/19, S37 Great Northwest Day 5, Robyn/Matt/Melissa)
