I enjoyed watching him for the past five years! Also, according to kerryoakie on JBoard, who was invited to audition on Zoom this week, all Jeopardy! auditions are currently cancelled because of this. As previously stated, Alex's last episode airs on Christmas, so I wouldn't be surprised if Jeopardy! is in reruns temporarily, starting December 28, if they don't find a new host in time, unless they have interim hosts, like how they had interim announcers on Wheel after Charlie O'Donnell died.

Game Show Network, before the end of a commercial break, does give tribute to Alex Trebek. We'll miss him.
P.S. It does scare the living daylights out of me. 10 seconds of silence.

I just came up with an idea to avoid Alex's last show being preempted on ABC affiliates by Christmas Day NBA. Since Alex Trebek's last show is airing on Christmas, if ABC broadcasts NBA games on Christmas this year as usual, I think it would be a better choice for Jeopardy! to air reruns for the entire week of December 21-25, and instead air Alex's last week of episodes from December 28-January 1.

Earlier I played the Jeopardy! World Tour app on my phone in his honor. At a loss for words right now.

Who do you suppose will replace Alex Trebek as host? No one knows at this point. But I am hopeful that TPTB would use rotating guest hosts rather than let Season 37 (or perhaps the series) end on Christmas Day. Remember when Charlie O'Donnell died 10 years ago? There was a rotation of guest announcers, and Jim Thornton became the new announcer in Wheel's Season 29. If TPTB wanted to find an interim host to finish Season 37, my thinking is Pat Sajak would most likely fill the position (he was the guest host on April Fools back in 1997).

^ ^ ^ Cut the speculation about who replaces. Not remotely the time or place. It’s gross and an awful look for the page.

Today's episode begins with a very touching intro from Mike Richards.

^ Sony won't cancel it. It's a huge moneymaker for them, just like Price was for CBS when Bob retired. Hosts change.

Understood, but all I ask is for the love of God, don't bring in some comedian idiot with no prior game show experience. Every example I've seen of it (TPIR included) has left the show utterly unwatchable to me, and Jeopardy! is one of the few "untainted" shows left. Please Sony, don't screw this up.

This is very sad. RIP Alex. You were a great legend and a great game show host. His last episode on Christmas Day is likely going to be preempted on all ABC stations because of NBA Christmas Day basketball. They plan to start the season December 22 so that means they may have games on Christmas Day. Due to the season being shortened I don't know if they will do their Christmas Day games the same way as they have been or do it different Maybe the NBA does a deal where ESPN gets everything expect for the 8pm game.

There's now a list of candidates looking to fill in Alex's position, including LeVar Burton (he hosted the children's show Reading Rainbow on PBS). Unsurprisingly, Ken Jennings is also on the list. But other candidates include Neil Patrick Harris, Ryan Seacrest, and news personalities like George Stephanopoulos and Katie Couric (I don't think either would fit because they don't have game show experience). Maybe Seacrest would be a better fit than Couric or Stephanopoulos since he hosts American Idol, which is a competition show but not actually a game show. Perhaps have Brad Rutter be an interim, as he already hosts another show; and in the future, he should continue being brought back alongside James Holzhauer for special tournaments. As a matter of fact, don't have James replace Alex, but bring him back for the aforementioned tournaments so he can have a chance at redemption from GOAT.
That being said, assuming there's a new permanent host for Season 38, I would not be surprised if the show introduces an entirely new set. The current set has been in use since Season 30, even though it underwent modifications for COVID-19. Certainly, don't be surprised if the music package gets refreshed next season.

^ Is this really the time to speculate a music or set change? The current theme is just fine, and the set just a received an overhaul.
There’s really more prescient issues at hand than changing the aesthetics of the show.

On their IG account, there will be reruns on the weeks of 12/21 and 12/28 showcasing the greatest J! episodes of all time. Alex’s final week of episodes will air on 1/4/21.
Additionally, the show will resume production next Monday w/ interim guest hosts. Ken Jennings is one of ‘em.

Jeopardy! and Wheel should always do reruns for Christmas. They're literally the only non-news syndies that still do new episodes on that day. They should have known from the start that Alex's final ep was going to have a major conflict.
I'm sure Wheel will continue to have new episodes for Christmas week, with at least one of them not airing in most of the country...
And I'm really not sure how to feel about Alex's final week coinciding with the premiere of Celebrity Wheel. I fear Wheel is going to get backlash from J! fans for making its primetime debut while everyone is still mourning the sister show's host. I already saw a lot of "How dare Wheel try to overshadow Jeopardy! at a time like this?!" tweets the day CWOF was greenlit. Doesn't help that Wheel hasn't done any tribute on the show itself yet (not that they're obligated to, but it would be nice).
