This means NBA Christmas Day basketball won't preempt his final episode on ABC anymore. That's good. Now his final episode will probably be seen nationwide

That’s good they pushed Alex’s last shows back. They can be seen nationally, and we don’t want to be saddened on Christmas Day knowing these are the last shows Alex did. And I agree with Mario. Maybe they should have held Celebrity Wheel in February. After all, having it in January gives the Wheel non-fans yet another excuse to bash Wheel.

This means NBA Christmas Day basketball won't preempt his final episode on ABC anymore. That's good. Now his final episode will probably be seen nationwide Except WBZ in Boston if the Patriots are still in the running for the Super Bowl, since J! and Wheel are pre-empted every Friday until then. But knowing WBZ, they'll probably either A: Shorten that day's broadcast of Patriots All Access to half an hour so that it only pre-empts Wheel, or B: Move J! to WSBK at 7:30 instead of 2:37 AM after Wheel, which they do whenever a tourney ep of J! is pre-empted by PAA. Wheel will undoubtedly be moved overnight regardless. Wheel didn't get any special treatment from them (or any other station) when two of the Vanna-hosted episodes were pre-empted by PAA, or last summer's rerun of GAC: Boston week. Or, less likely, C: Air Alex's last episode Saturday at 7:30 instead of a rerun, which they did when the All-Star Games reran and the finals was pre-empted by PAA. College Football should be over by then, although J! doesn't get affected by overrun if it's under 30 minutes.

^ I doubt the Patriots are making the playoffs this year and if they don't then WBZ probably won't do Patriots All Access that night

The only logical reason I could think of moving Alex's final five episodes on the week of January 4th is because The Chase makes its debut with all three of the JEOPARDY! GOAT players as chasers on the same day the last ever $1,000,000 tournament aired.

^ It's mainly because most syndicated programming gets pre-empted on ABC affiliates on Christmas Day because of NBA, which has been a tradition with the network since 1967. Because of this, most syndies schedule reruns for Christmas Day. The only ones that do not are Wheel, J!, and the newsmagazine shows like Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition. The majority of J! and Wheel's viewers come from markets that air it on ABC affiliates. The markets with the O&O's alone cover 23% of the US.

I bet Ken Jennings would make a perfect replacement because of his 74-game streak. Would you agree?

I don’t mind the current Jeopardy! music package, but a refresh of the music is long overdue. As per Jeopardy! tradition, the music package gets refreshed every 11-13 seasons. Although the set underwent changes this season, it wasn’t exactly a complete overhaul like in 2009 and 2013. Rather, it was a touch-up to the existing set (similar to the Ken Jennings set being modified for HD back in 2006).

Not to mention this update to the set was more out of necessity than anything else.

His final episode airs today; I'll have my Kleenex ready because I know I will be a mess.

Here is Final Jeopardy! (that term hits so differently right now) and the credits of tonight's show. Spoilers, obviously. streamable.com/yktiu6You will need tissues. I was already tearing up just hearing Alex say, "We'll see you next week."
The song is "Once Before I Go", originally by Peter Allen. The version used is from the jukebox musical The Boy from Oz, performed by Hugh Jackman.

One good thing about this show. Small, but good: At least the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right. It would have hurt to end with a full stumper. Good final scores as well.

Yep, crying at my desk right now. Just hits you right in the gut; growing up with Alex and J! just as I am sure many of us did. There will never be another. Godspeed, Alex, and rest in peace. You are in our hearts always.

I can confirm Alex's final week taped on Monday, October 26. Thirteen days before his passing. Mike Richards' intro stating he taped his last show "two weeks ago" was indeed true to the exact day that aired. Ironically, it was also Pat Sajak's birthday. Wheel has not yet aired whatever weeks they taped on 10/22-23, so J! actually has been having a shorter tape-to-air gap than Wheel this season on most weeks.

^ Actually, Mike Richards said in an interview on the day Alex died that for Alex's final week, they filmed three shows on a Monday and two on a Tuesday. The Monday-Wednesday episodes of this week taped on October 26, but yesterday and today's episodes were taped the next day, October 27 (the show's website incorrectly said that his final taping was October 29).

Anyone else a bit sad that Wheel never did a tribute on the show itself? Yes, they did do a social media post, and Pat and Vanna both made statements, but it would have been nice to have a quick In Memoriam at the beginning or end of the show either today or the Monday following his passing so that the transition from J! to Wheel or vice-versa wouldn’t be so jarring.
