(my opinion: dump the gift tag) Oh no, another sponsor! The sponsorship's not my beef with the gift tag - usually, that plug takes all of three seconds, tops. My complaint about the gift tag is that with it being a relatively small amount for a prize (and non-spendable to boot), it comes off (at least to me) as a very awkward-feeling gameplay element. Therefore, with the amount of cardboard on the wheel increasing, my opinion is that it's high time for the gift tag to cash it in. Either that or they could award some cash with it (but honestly, I'd rather just see it go). Plus, retiring the gift tag would open up a $300 space over which one of the car tags could go (and put the other over the orange $300 by the far Bankrupt). That way, if they're going to award the cash amount under the car tags, they can award the same amount for either tag location, because it just feels odd to be awarding $700 for landing on one but only $500 for the other. Hopefully, Jared (or one of this season's other hopefuls) will be able to update us on the particulars as tapings occur. |

Will the trip wedge still be in play? Most likely. According to someone who was at a taping on another forum, "The gift tag is still there in addition to everything else." It's also very likely that the value of the car will be added to the total like other prizes. The car they used this season was only about $13K, and Kias go for about that same amount, if not less. They're basically the same cars that were offered in the Mystery Round. So, yes, it will be a pretty big advantage. I hope they really consider increasing some wheel values, but at least it's not as unfair as the $25K from the Big Money Wedge. Last season, when a contestant won a tag, they also got $500 per letter. Will this happen with the $700/$500 wedges the new tags will sit under? I sure hope so. If they do, they should also do that for the Wild Card with $900, especially since it now covers the second-highest cash amount on the wheel. Joacen/Jared, please let us know if they are doing this, but with as little spoiling as possible. Thanks. |

TLC, managing to secure 2 halves would be rarer than a Mystery win, I think, so it's pretty fair.
And like I said, retiring the gift tag would remove a sponsor - several small ones actually, sometimes relating to the themes of the week.

Jared, how was your taping today? What was your theme week, and when is your show airing? Could you tell me any changes (of course no spoilers). Could you tell me how the half car works? Are there any differences from Road Trip Week? What wedges do they cover? Did the category strips change? What about the musics for the Tossup, Speedup, and BR? Is Round 1 still Jackpot, Round 2 ordinary, and Round 3 the Prize Puzzle? Is the Prize Puzzle still in Rounds 2 and 3 only? Please tell all!

Here's a rather generic set for a possibly non-generic week airing in late December ("Best of the Best"):  I hope that's not the logo we see in the opening next season. It's basically a slightly spruced-up Season 28 logo. Obviously, the set's staying the same, but I hope they put the logo behind the contestants or in the center monitor like they used to do before the themes overtook the monitors, and that the puzzles won't be themed besides New Years. |

I would assume that "Best of the Best" has nothing to do with returning champions. It's probably something like "Nothing But the Best" that was a theme a few years back. I do like the bright colors! I just wish we could see an upclose picture of the wheel.  |

To be honest, I could easily see them recycling Season 28's Logo since it was hardly ever used for the opening...plus it's been put all over the place...Their Facebook game, iPod/iPhone/iPad app, and website just to name a few. But I hope that is not the case. This would be the first time that has happened since 1992 & 1993....unless you count the 1994-1997 logo as one in the same with a different colored background. But, all the openings were different....

When exactly is Best of the Best airing? December 26 - 30? Or December 5 - 9 or 12 - 16? I'm guessing not 19 - 23 since that makes sense for Happy Holidays.
I also wouldn't be surprised, since that's just a shot not of the show being taped, that in the airing of the show, the only logo we'll see when it airs is the Season 29 logo.
Also, is that the week that taped on Friday? I'm surprised if it is, with them having taped it before October 17 - 21 and October 31 - December 23 (or October 31 - December 2 or 9), not counting sixth show tapings. Maybe it's because they wanted to tape two consecutive updated dips and columns is (and none of those weeks have it), and something tells me that Ports of Call is that and not a set with cruise ships. Could someone post a picture of the set of Ports of Call?

"Best of the Best" week taped on Friday is airing December 26-30.
The show did not post a picture of the Ports of Call set other than the puzzleboard, which only had the generic starry sky background with bluish arches.

I would assume that "Best of the Best" has nothing to do with returning champions. Even though I know very little about modern day Wheel of Fortune, I just had to ask this. Could Best of the Best possibly be a week with the best Season 28 players or the ones in Seson 28 that won the most? |
