Season 40 Pre-emptions and Anomalies

To recap, most of the following airings of #S-7814 were impacted:

7:00 ET: ABC airings cut off at the end. CBS and NBC unaffected.

7:30 ET: ABC pre-empted entirely. NBC cut off during R2. CBS cut off at the end of R3.

6:00 MT: Beginning of show slightly cut off due to the networks signing off at about 8:01. On KKTV, Wheel cut in as the blanks for TU1 were coming up, so no gameplay was lost there.

I doubt any FOX airings were affected. The O&O's didn't interrupt programming.

KTUL, Tamarah's affiliate, appears to have opted not to air the special report. She posted a video on her Instagram of several friends and family watching her episode on TV. If that was taken in the Tulsa area, none of the show would have aired if KTUL aired the report. (EDIT: Tamarah confirmed that KTUL did not pre-empt Wheel)

Renee was not affected since she watches on WHIO. Thomas was likely affected since he watches on WCCO, a 7:30 ET airing.

Good news: Denver won. Bad news: Overrun was 48 minutes, which means Wheel is completely gone on some West Coast stations and JIP'd more than halfway through on others. Should be fine on KABC and KGO, though they were fine the first time around.

#S-7714RR is pre-empted on West Coast ABC's by the NBA Draft. Scheduling is the typical sports scheduling, KABC at 9, KGO at 10, etc.

#S-7677RR is pre-empted on FOX affiliates by the MLB All-Star Game, scheduled from 7-11 ET including pregame. I believe this is the first weekday game on FOX with the new pitch clock rules.

WSYT and WLUK will both be airing Wheel an hour early today, at 6:00 ET and 5:30 CT, respectively. Interestingly, despite J! being new and Wheel not, WLUK is still opting to air Wheel before the game and J! after it (meaning J! will likely air later than listed, but in its entirety, but messing with DVR recordings). As I theorized in the past, I wonder if this is a demographics thing, or if Wheel gets better ratings in the Green Bay market.

Yeah - we had several warnings last Thursday in this area (outside Albany, NY) and the NBC station was covering that, while dozens of people were posting complaining about missing the end of the Blacklist.

Granted, there are things that they break in with that aren't really urgent, but tornados are definitely NOT in that category, and with stations covering multiple counties, they may not be impacting some viewers, but they can't split the broadcast for different areas

#S-7730RR is pre-empted on all FOX affiliates due to the FIFA Women's World Cup, scheduled from 7:00-11:30 PM ET.

Once again, WSYT and WLUK will both be airing Wheel an hour early today.

In Denver, KDVR is moving both J! and Wheel to KWGN (CW) at their regular times. This is only the second time they've done this, after the World Series earlier this season.

FOX pre-emption today due to MLB. KDVR has Wheel at 8:30 MT, half an hour after the game’s scheduled end.

Apparently NBC did air pregame starting at 7:00 ET on 8/3, so all NBC airings would have been pre-empted.



In addition to NFL preseason on various affiliates, FOX had another FIFA Women's World Cup pre-emption last night.

NFL Preseason Week 2 pre-emptions below. The Bills are playing on Saturday which means a Buffalo Kickoff Live pre-emption during the week on WIVB and WROC is likely. And WPBF is now also replacing Wheel with J! whenever only the latter is scheduled to be pre-empted.
