Season 40 Pre-emptions and Anomalies

In addition to this, tonight is the first Thursday Night Football game to not air nationwide on any major broadcast networks. It's Chargers vs. Chiefs. Wheel is pre-empted on WDAF Kansas City by FOX MLB anyway; the game is locally airing on KSHB (NBC) in the Kansas City market. In the LA market, Wheel is not affected; the game is airing on KTTV (FOX). Both affiliates are preceding the game with one hour of pregame (as opposed to the half hour pregame show that preceded the NBC, CBS, and FOX broadcasts). These appear to be locally-produced, so it is not yet known if all affiliates will be required to air pregame before a local TNF broadcast.


Also, Friday's episode (#S-7625) is pre-empted on WDIV Detroit by a charity special. Wheel is not listed at all on Friday. However, Wheel is listed on WDIV-DT4 Cozi TV on Saturday at 7:00 PM ET, though the episode listed is the one for the weekend rerun. This is likely Friday's episode. Wheel is still listed on WDIV on Saturday as well.

The game signed off around 10:28 ET, so Denver should have aired Wheel in its entirety. I checked KDVR around 10:49 on Thursday and they were showing the Triple Toss-Up. Not sure how much of J! aired if any of it.


I'm not going to note college football overruns on Saturdays since they are pretty much guaranteed, but I will note that for WABC viewers, college football overrun no longer affects early Sunday morning airings of Wheel unless it's >30 minutes. Last night's ABC game overran by about 26 minutes, which, as usual, slid the 11:00 news and all programming after it up to WABC's late night movie. Last year, WABC would often slide J! and/or WOF Weekend as well (sometimes both, sometimes only J! with Wheel JIP'd after it), but last night, J! was JIP'd after the movie during FJ!, and Wheel aired on time and in its entirety. WOF Weekend airs Sundays at 5:00 AM ET on WABC during football season.

Also, on affiliates that schedule WOF Weekend Sundays at 5:00 PM ET, such as WJLA DC and WFTV Orlando, this time slot is usually after other sporting events (most often, WNBA) and typically whatever program is in this slot does not air in its entirety. Both of the previous two Sundays' WNBA games overran.

I also discovered that this football season, WOHL-CD2 in Lima, Ohio is airing WOF Weekend Saturday afternoons at 12:00 PM ET, right after the CBS Dream Team block. Previously, it aired Sundays at 6:00 PM by default, or Sundays at 11:30 AM if there was a sporting event at 6. This is the second earliest airing of WOF Weekend on a regular basis during football season after WPXI Pittsburgh, but the earliest in terms of times where people are actually awake to watch.

FOX's Thursday game (the one that aired in the majority of markets including KDVR) ran until about 10:41 ET, so assuming KDVR had Wheel at 8:30 MT again, they got JIP'd probably during late R2.


TV Passport still lists Wheel at 12 PM Saturday, but it is actually an infomercial that's airing. Lima is not among the markets carrying CBS's late Sunday game this weekend, so Wheel will air Sunday at 6 PM on WOHL-CD2, assuming PBR Bull Riding does not run over.

Also, for markets that get WOF Weekend Sundays at 5 ET, it does not follow WNBA, soccer, or racing this Sunday, so it should be able to air in its entirety.

Goes without saying, but Tuesday's Wheel was pre-empted in multiple Florida markets yesterday for Hurricane Ian coverage, including Miami (WPLG) and West Palm Beach (WPBF), and likely Tampa (WTSP) and Fort Myers (WBBH) as well. This will likely also be the case Wednesday and probably Thursday (with a new CWOF) since Ian is expected to make landfall around the Fort Myers area today. If you're in the path, please stay safe.

EDIT: Wednesday's Wheel was pre-empted on all of the above plus WFTV Orlando, which did not air any programming, network or syndicated. The only Florida market I found that was not covering Ian Thursday was Jacksonville.

WABC has moved WOF Weekend to 5 AM ET Saturdays, so today's already aired. Since CBS starts College Football at 12 ET Saturday and has a late Sunday NFL game in all markets, WOHL-CD2 has this weekend's Wheel at 7:00 ET Saturday which means it's 99.9% not going to air in its entirety. (They air Ohio Lottery Cash Explosion at 7:30)

KABC confirmed on Twitter that Monday’s Wheel will air at 2:21 AM Pacific, still listed as Live with Kelly & Ryan. Their wording implies Wheel will not slide with overrun.

#S-7641 is pre-empted on KLAS Las Vegas due to the Raiders @ Chiefs MNF game. Wheel will air at 2:07 AM Pacific. Overrun will not slide programming because KLAS is also pre-empting the first hour of CBS primetime for local postgame.

Wheel is not affected in Kansas City; the game is airing on KCTV (CBS) there, apparently their very first local MNF broadcast.

#S-7643 is pre-empted on all East Coast FOX affiliates due to NLDS Game 2, scheduled from 4:30-7:30 PM ET. Most if not all 7:30 ET airings (WDAF, WBFF, etc.) are not moving or re-airing at other times, and since MLB on FOX literally never ends in three hours, these airings are futile. For any airings that do move to late night, programming will likely slide if the game runs past 8:00 ET, since FOX has a new Masked Singer scheduled.

Although not listed, Wheel will move to WSYT-DT3 in Syracuse (and J! will air simultaneously on both stations if the game ends before 8:00).

Wheel is remaining at 8:30 ET/6:30 MT on KDVR Denver. If the game runs more than 60 minutes over, Wheel will be affected on that station as well.

FOX signed back on at 7:24 ET and the game started at 7:30. Any 7:00 airings of Wheel were cut off before the Bonus Round, and all other mainland airings are gone. Hawaii is not affected as long as FOX signs off by midnight ET. East Coast affiliates' late night lineups are likely thrown out of whack so if Wheel is listed in a late night slot on your station, you should probably just DVR the whole lineup.
