Season 40 Pre-emptions and Anomalies

KABC is actually airing #S-7664 right now instead of the rerun. Still makes you wonder why they didn't just move 7663 to Saturday. During last year's CMA pre-emption, they delayed the entire remainder of the week a day, which threw off at least one viewing party.

^ Not on East Coast affiliates, but it will on West Coast ones. This is routine for every Thanksgiving; NBC does not do pregame before its Thanksgiving football game like they do with SNF and the season kickoff.

According to Zap2It, tonight's airing of CWOF on CTV 2 at 9:00 ET will vary depending on the station.

CKVR and CHRO both have #PT-301 listed, its Canadian premiere (Tiki/Lauren/Jim). All other CTV 2 stations have #PT-309 listed (Paul/Luenell/Mary Lynn). This episode aired on the main CTV last Sunday and will air on E! Canada next Friday and Saturday.

A college football rarity, CBS's broadcast on Saturday actually ended on time! This is only the second time in the past four years I recall this happening. All 7:00 ET CBS airings of #S-7620RR and 7:30 airings following news aired in their entirety.

However, the same cannot be said for ABC airings. Their college football broadcast overran by about 32 minutes, resulting some airings not airing at all, or getting JIP'd a couple minutes in. WABC scheduled a one-hour O&O special (Our America: Reclaiming Turtle Island) following the 11:00 news, which always runs for a full hour, followed by the usual two hour-long syndie reruns (formerly Wipeout, now 9-1-1), with their overnight movie (Ten Thousand Saints) scheduled at 3:00 AM ET instead of the usual 2:00, but it did not start until a little after 3:30. Wheel was scheduled at 5:00 AM immediately after the movie, but my DVR recording shows the movie for the entire half hour with the credits still rolling when the recording ended, so I imagine Wheel got completely skipped over and Small Town Big Deal was JIP'd a little after 5:30.

This airing was pre-empted on KTVT Dallas by a special promoting new Paramount+ series Tulsa King. It aired on KTXA.

This episode aired three times. Both the first and third airings were pre-empted on West Coast ABC airings, the first by NBA Finals. The second airing, on September 9, 2022 wasn't pre-empted anywhere besides WBZ Boston, which did air the first and third airings, the latter thanks to CBS ending CFB on time.

According to a Wisconsin viewer on Twitter, an affiliate accidentally re-aired #S-7671 on Tuesday instead of 7672. It is unknown which affiliate this was.

West Coast CBS and East Coast NBC affiliates (except WTHR) will not be affected on either of the two days.


THANKSGIVING  - #S-7674: PITT vs. UA LITTLE ROCK vs. FAMU

• Mountain and Pacific NBC affiliates by NFL (NE @ MIN)
• Eastern and Central FOX affiliates by NFL (NYG @ DAL)
• KDVR Denver will be JIP'd or skipped if NYG/DAL game runs more than 30 minutes over
• ABC and CBS airings are not affected in any time zones

Most West Coast NBC affiliates have Wheel scheduled in primetime, but in some cases immediately or shortly after the game and/or local postgame or news. KNSD San Diego has Wheel at 9:00 PM PT right after the game and a local postgame show which may or may not run a full half hour if the game runs long. KKCO in Grand Junction, CO has Wheel sandwiched between the game and local news at 9:30 PM MT.

For this episode, none of the three colleges' affiliates (WPXI/KATV/WCTV) are affected by sports, as they are all East Coast non-FOX's.


BLACK FRIDAY - #S-7675: PURDUE vs. UC RIVERSIDE vs. FISK

• All ABC affiliates by College Football (Florida @ Florida State) [broadcast new for this year]
• Most Eastern and some Central CBS airings by likely overrun from College Football (Auburn @ Alabama)
•     All 7:00 ET airings and several 7:30 ET/6:30 CT airings following local newscasts will likely be JIP'd or skipped
• Eastern and Central FOX affiliates by College Football (UCLA @ California)
  
• KDVR Denver will be JIP'd or skipped if UCLA/California game runs more than 30 minutes over
  
• WTHR Indianapolis by the Circle of Lights parade (Wheel presumably moved to WALV/MeTV)
• WBNS Columbus by Ohio State Buckeyes special (Wheel airs at 2:37 AM ET)

At least two, likely all three colleges will be affected. Fisk is served by WKRN (Wheel not listed, but contestant was told 1:30 AM CT), UC Riverside is served by KABC (Wheel moved later to 9:00 PM PT, but should be fine), and Purdue is officially served by WLFI (7:00 ET CBS airing), although most providers in that area carry the Indianapolis affiliates as well, which does nothing for Purdue since WTHR is pre-empting for local reasons. Not only that, but the Purdue student is from Crown Point, Indiana, which is part of the Chicago market served by WLS, though it is not far from the South Bend market served by WSBT... which is also a 7:00 ET CBS airing that likely won't air in full. On most any other day, she'd have four options to watch, and on this day, she'll likely have zero.

Keep in mind that some airings of WOF Weekend might be replaced with Friday's episode. WKRN has WOFW Sunday at 4:30 PM CT, but it's immediately after a college basketball game that will probably run long, and WKRN confirmed to the contestant that it cannot be replaced with 7675.



I hope Bellamie never schedules College Week on Thanksgiving week again. This isn't fair to the contestants or the colleges. Wheel shouldn't even do new episodes on these holidays, especially if ABC carrying the third CFB game is now permanent, which wouldn't surprise me given how they air more and more MNF games each season.

FOX and NBC's games both ran a bit over due to postgame, which should slide overnight airings of Wheel and may cut off West Coast airings.

FOX's game went over by about 10 minutes, sliding the primetime shows accordingly. Wheel aired on time and in its entirety on KDVR Denver; Jeopardy! was JIP'd during the 18th clue.

NBC's game went over by 8 minutes. Some West Coast airings may get JIP'd during R2.

Again, none of the colleges tonight were affected by the football pre-emptions.

Another year with all games failing to end on time.

FOX overran to 8:11 ET and primetime slid accordingly.

ABC's second game went into double overtime which caused the third game to start late. That overran 44 minutes. Anyone DVR'ing an overnight airing of Wheel tonight should add two programs. Some West Coast airings are going to be affected by this as well, including both Mountain airings which are probably gone entirely. KABC should be fine as long as they end the local news at 9:00 PT, and KGO should be fine as well.

As usual, WCCO Minneapolis ran 30 minutes of news, so Wheel was JIP'd. I didn't have time to check many affiliates, but I did see that KENS San Antonio did air Wheel in its entirety, as did WDJT Milwaukee, one of the few Central Time Zone affiliates that airs J! at 6:00 instead of local news.

WABC ran Wheel in its entirety from 3:14-44 AM between both Jeopardy!'s. Tamron Hall was JIP'd after DJ! finished. I got it in full on my DVR by scheduling DJ! and adding 30 minutes, since it straddled the slots listed as DJ! and Tamron. I also recorded the Wheel slot + 30 minutes and Tamron Hall's slot and deleted both of those.
