#29: MINI CAR (Season 2, Variant A) Duke's ID: PRIZE-MINI-CAR-S2-A MINI CAR made its debut early in Season 2. This variant has a single known usage, in [S2-E240 Sharon/Blake/Barbara 11/8/1984]. A couple of weeks later, another variant with completely different typography would be used, and that variant would account for the remainder of the four total known appearances of the MINI CAR wedge. Speaking of typography, there are several unique things about this wedge typographically. It is the first prize wedge known to have a two-word format where the first word is modeled horizontally across the top, with the second word positioned vertically beneath. It certainly won't be the last to use such styling, but it is one of the more well-known instances of it. Also, the letters on this wedge do not appear to belong to any font of this Earth, according to the font-spotting AI. I suspect that like the preceding JEWEL wedge, these letters, particularly the C, A, and R, may be fully stylized. The first three times that MINI CAR was offered, it referred to a Mini-T. For the last instance that it was offered, it was for a much less expensive James Mini Car. Now I'll just drive the MINI CAR over to the wheel.

#30: RING (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-RING-S2 My records now show 111 recorded appearances of the dynastic RING wedge through season 13, including daytime episodes. Of those, this particular variant accounts for 12 appearances in seasons 2 through 5. It is first known to be seen in [S2-E249 Nancy/Al/Nicki 11/22/1984], and was alternated at times with the original Season 1 variant. This variant was last seen in [S5-E840 Sheila/Greg/Dick 12/4/1987] early in the all-cash era, after which both it and the Season 1 variant seemed to have been retired in favor of two new Season 5 variants. Overall the text is taller, less bold, and whitespace at the top and bottom are a bit more balanced in the new variant, as opposed to the prior variant whose text was justified toward the top. If you love the Wheel, of course you've got to put a RING on it!

#31: MINI CAR (Season 2, Variant B) Duke's ID: PRIZE-MINI-CAR-S2-B Someone may have lost the first MINI CAR wedge, because it was never seen again and this one appeared very shortly after the first variant, in [S2-E252 Laura/Bob/Rochelle 11/27/1984]. This variant was seen twice more in Season 3, last being seen in [S3-E551 Ken/John/Andra 5/5/1986]. After that, MINI CAR seems to have been retired. Typographically, this variant is a bit more on-brand, but still has some non-Clarendon pecularity to it. We love it anyway. Let's put this version of the MINI CAR on my mini wheel.

#32: SCOOTER (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-SCOOTER-S2 This variant of the SCOOTER wedge seems to have had a singular appearance, in [S2-E266 Joni/Carol/Ed 12/17/1984]. After that, we would only see the plural SCOOTERS wedge later, and no other sign of the inexpensive singular SCOOTER, even in daytime. This variant is styled similarly to the SCULPTURE and STEREO wedges that preceded it, with letters much wider than the Season 1 SCOOTER variant. A SCOOTER has two wheels, but I only have the one wheel to hold this new wedge.

#33: JADE (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-JADE-S2 I swear, this one looks so close to PRIZE-JADE-S1-A that I'd be convinced that it had been surgically altered, if PRIZE-JADE-S1-A did not continue to appear alongside this variant. The only real discernable difference is in the hook end of the 'J'. This variant first shows up in [S2-E276 Judy/Jim/Kathy 1/8/1985], and is used a couple of times in seasons 2 and 3, with three known appearances. Sometime after [S3-E533 Chris/Frances/Janet 5/7/1986], a new variant replaced both this one and the Season 1 variant that seems to be its near-twin. Of note, JADE is the earliest known prize wedge to have a third variant. The wedge itself is kind of a JADE color - let's go ahead and put it on the wheel.

#34: BANGLE (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-BANGLE-S2 Here's a new wedge - BANGLE has a total of 10 known appearances across seasons 2 through 7. This particular variant accounts for at least two of those appearances, first appearing in [S2-E280 Angela/Diane/Roger 12/31/1984] and then again in [S4-E741 Bob/Nancy/Eleanor 4/2/1987]. It might have appeared in Season 5, in [S5-E882 Hank/Nancy/Becky 2/12/1988], but I am unable to confirm whether that appearance was this Season 2 variant or the newer Season 5 variant as I currently lack a video source for that episode. BANGLE was logically used to give away bangle-style bracelets, which were, as was usual for jewelry prizes, stand-ins for a gift certificate. I described the BANGLE so I'll not leave you to dangle - here it is on the wheel. Important Note - Probably no new wedges next weekend.
When I first started doing this I did not promise a particular cadence, though I've been regularly releasing weekly on the weekend for some time. So as to prevent any disappointment, though, I'll say now that it is unlikely I will be releasing any new Prize Wedge Hunter wedges next weekend, July 27/28. I have a good reason, though. Friends are gathering from out of town, and our plans include a Wheel of Fortune tournament on my wheel. Good thing I have 34 prize wedges to draw from by now! If I do not release anything next weekend, rest assured that the Prize Wedge Hunter will return soon.

I can't wait to see that in action; I'M SO EXCITED!!!! Now tell me, what prizes are at stake for the tournament winners and runner-ups?

No, it will not be studio-style recorded. I will probably have pictures and short videos I can share. Maybe some extended clips if I can find a good place for a tripod that captures all of the action.
I will be host-only for this one, and as of now we have 7 players RSVP'd. It will be a somewhat informal structure, winner of prior game stays, new contestants are chosen randomly from remaining willing players that have played the fewest games. Tournament ends via attrition or when people get hungry for dinner, and highest cumulative dollar amount wins the event. I was thinking of putting together some kind of swag for winner and runner up, possibly including a commemorative trophy wedge if I have time and inspiration to make one.

that's because the even hasn't happened yet and thus, there's no video TO post
if you'd bother to read what he said about "WILL post" not "HAVE posted"

#35: JEWELRY (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-JEWELRY-S2 By now we've had RING, PIN, WATCH, HEART, BANGLE, and JEWEL all represent jewelry prizes, so, why not introduce a JEWELRY wedge to replace them all? I'm not sure if that was the rationale behind this wedge, but either way this wedge really didn't take off in Season 2. This variant seems to have been used once in [S2-E287 Steve/Kelli/Jim 1/22/1985], and the generic JEWELRY wedge was not revisited again until Season 6, with a new variant, after which JEWELRY was used more frequently. Overall, there seem to have been 28 appearances of JEWELRY that the producers decided not to designate with a more specific wedge. This wedge was often used to give away earrings, since EARRINGS did not appear as its own wedge until Season 12. Other than that, a large variety of jewelry was offered using JEWELRY wedges, sometimes even if a more specific wedge like RING was available. All of these prize wedges are like JEWELRY for the wheel, so let's put it on and see how it looks.

#36: FRIDGE (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-FRIDGE-S2 FRIDGE was a wedge that seemed to have exactly one appearance in syndication, in [S2-E288 Andea/Doug/Sandy 1/23/1985]. Maybe a refrigerator was too practical and not decadent enough as a prize. There were two known appearances of other variants of FRIDGE in the Goen daytime episodes, but those episodes were anything but decadent. In one of those episodes, the FRIDGE was worth less than $600! This wedge was predictably used to give away refrigerators and not much else. On these hot summer days, it might help to put a FRIDGE on the wheel to help cool off.

#37: PIANO (Season 2) Duke's ID: PRIZE-PIANO-S2 The PIANO wedge had a slow start, but by Season 6, it had become a staple prize, appearing several times each season. There are a total of 60 known PIANO wedge appearances. At least three of these appearances were of this particular variant, and I suspect there are two more Season 5 appearances for which I do not have video. The first appearance of this variant is currently [S2-E292 Janelle/Sharon/Ilene 2/19/1985], and the other two confirmed appearances are in Season 5, with the last being [S5-E828 Marie/Laura/Kevin 11/18/1987]. The next two appearances in Season 5 could have been this variant, but also could have been what I currently have labeled as the PIANO-S6-A variant. At the latest, in Season 6, that new variant replaced this one. Several different types of pianos and piano-like instruments were given away with this wedge. Baby grands, player pianos, synth keyboards, and even a Remo Saraceni walking piano made famous by the movie "Big"! It's time to face the music and put the PIANO wedge on the wheel.

#38: GRAPHIC (Season 2, Variant B) Duke's ID: PRIZE-GRAPHIC-S2-B [S2-E297 Peg/Renee/Doc 2/1/1985] was the second and last known time a GRAPHIC wedge appeared, and it was the second and last known variant of the GRAPHIC wedge. Its duties would be largely subsumed by the yet-to-be-introduced ART wedge. Again, this wedge was used to offer a limited-edition serigraph of Aquarium by Hiro Yamagata. This wedge, like several others from the era uses Claremont font for its text. Overall the text occupies much more of the wedge on this variant, and leaves much less open space. There's not much else to say about this wedge, lets hope the picture of it on the wheel isn't too GRAPHIC for some audiences.

I can't even begin to tell you how fun it is seeing all the kinds of fonts used on these old Prize wedges. I take it that's why you like making recreations of them, do you not, duke?
