Maybe Wheel just thinks it is dumb to have multi-millionaires joking around having a fun time winning $2000? $3000? Maybe $15000 for one of them for charity while America is going through one of the hardest economic times ever. Maybe they would rather see average people win good sums of money and be happy and joyous about it. Nah, that can't be it. Charities are great, don't get me wrong. However, if these NBA Stars really want to donate, why don't they just fork up $50,000 or $100,000 of their own money and give it to a good cause instead of pretending they care about a charity winning $10,000 because they spun a wheel and called letters. Anyways, that's just probably 5AM talking. It is just something that bugs me. I don't agree with this only because someone is always going through something hard. A million someones, and not just here but around the world, in fact are always facing hard times no matter what year it is. Saying that is akin to saying that there should never be any celebrity shows. On top of that, I am not following Lebron James, Blake Griffin, or other celebrities around like the paparazzi. Who is to say they don't already fork up that $50-100K and are playing in celebrity games for more money? Some don't, but a lot do. It is not fair to say that they can't have fun just because they're rich and it isn't fair to presume that Americans aren't going to enjoy seeing said celebrities play.
It's fun to watch these people who happen to be a cut above the rest get a chance to play a game we ourselves like playing. It's an escape for some. It is something to look forward to in a world that is always hard. It's a novelty and it is a fun one. There should at least be a little jovial pocket. There should at least be a bright side. There hasn't been a calm time in this world as a whole in probably a thousand years, to focus on the bad would give us no hope for the future. Celebrities playing on game shows, trivial as it may be, is just a chance to look on the bright side. It shouldn't be seen as a slap in the face.
They may be pretending to care, they may not. Money is going to a good charity and the show itself isn't trying to force you to believe that a celebrity playing is the greatest person in the world for participating in their show. Don't patronize yourself.

Fair enough, like I said, that was 5AM me talking. I regret making that in the first place seeing where this is headed. If the celebrities really wanted to play, I'm not saying they should not be able to. I'm just saying that Wheel should not go out of their way to find celebrities that want to play just to make a week out of it. There IS a reason they stopped doing it, after all.Don't patronize yourself. Excuse Me? ....

There IS a reason they stopped doing it, after all.I understand that completely. I agree that Wheel shouldn't go out of its way to put one together. They kind of went overboard with that in the 90s at one point. I understand them wanting to take a break and I don't have a problem with this NBA week not being celebrity-induced. Don't patronize yourself. Excuse Me? ....I just said that because of the way your first statement came off. I read that as you saying the show (or the celebrity themselves) was trying to fool you into believing that the celebrity actually cares about the charity they're playing for, and while I know some celebrities and athletes aren't as nice as they seem, I wanted to think the best of them in that moment. I wasn't trying to slight you, I was just saying to not to let yourself be fooled into thinking that the show was trying to fool you. /Pity the fool.

I'm just saying that Wheel should not go out of their way to find celebrities that want to play just to make a week out of it. There IS a reason they stopped doing it, after all. But here's the thing -- they had three NBA stars in the studio. Wheel could've had those three play with the week's players, and maybe have the three playing the game by themselves for charities and that show goes on the YouTube channel (although if the Lottery Winners show{s} of Season 29 are any indication, this wouldn't have happened even if the episode had been made). Done. Alternately, they could do what they did for Game Show Hosts Week in 1980 and have a celeb playing for an audience member against two regular players. You'd need two more celebs, but that's easier than 15 (or 12, but they refuse to do the Friday Finals). I guess Wheel is getting a bit too predictable in terms of theme weeks. Of course, the obvious solution -- do at least some weeks with no theme whatsoever (and "America's Game" is a theme) -- isn't a possibility for them.

That's what I'm worried about. Nothing's been announced about that. Portland had several college Wheelmobile events a while before the tapings started. The New York tapings are just over a month away now. They have also never done College Week in any of their other New York trips. What do they have against NY/NJ/CT-area schools? Something tells me there won't be a College Week at all this season, unless they have one in Culver City in June.

Last Friday's tapings were the last Culver City ones for the season. The air dates and theme are unknown right now, but Thursday's shows were for the week of 5/27 according to a couple of show staffers I follow on Facebook (theme also unknown), so the tape dates should be easy to determine based on the sets.

I got an update on my show. I got a call from Wheel's contestant department this afternoon informing me that my show (and apparently, the whole America's Game 4 week) has been moved to APRIL 25, 2013. No word on if the CA Coast shows will be moved, though.

Nice. We get to see your show a week earlier now. I bet I know why they did this. Now with this change, all 4 New York weeks can air consecutively. With the week of 5/27 recently being confirmed as a Culver City week, they would have had to air 3 weeks together then the remaining one sometime later.

I just searched "wheel of fortune" on twitter and saw that some folks have been notified that they will be filming "Best Friends Week" on March 18th in NYC. Just wanted to give a heads up!

When was the last "Best Friends Week" on the road? Was it Philly in 2005? Granted that was "Teen Best Friends Week..."

They did the same theme the last time they came to NY back in 2007. It had been confirmed for a while, but not its date. Thanks.
(Still waiting to hear about College Week...)

If the tapings are in the middle of this month, odds are pretty good that the calls have come out now or will come really soon. Contestants are usually notified two weeks in advance, but with road shows (which are planned well in advance and usually take locals), contestants may be notified sooner.

Does anyone know what the theme is for the NYC shows taped March 19?

Right now, only Best Friends Week is publicly confirmed. Do you have tickets for the 3/19 tapings? If so, you probably won't find out until then.

Zap2It lists the week of 4/29 as "NYC". Don't know if this is just a placeholder or if this week will actually be just a regular NYC Week, which does make sense (though Portland Week wasn't first last year).

It would be funny if the actual name of the week was literally "NYC". :-P (not happening I know)

I wouldn't be surprised if it were "Wheel Loves New York" - we've seen that theme before.
