I see you finally got quoting down. A long puzzle for Round 1? That was pretty rare back then. And interesting to know that the "new" bonus rules weren't in place yet. Are you sure A COVEY OF QUAIL was Thing and not Things? That would definitely go down as "Living ThingS" today. What I find really surprising is that I finally have a date for this one moment I saw a few years ago. Round 2 on 10/23 was when the Yellow contestant (John) blew over $14,000 (or something like that) by accidentally asking to buy a Y. He quickly corrected himself to I, but the "first letter we heard" rule kicked in and was penalized. Do you remember if the $250 was deducted? One recollection says yes, but there was a time about a year ago where a contestant accidentally asked to buy a T and was penalized but didn't lose the $250. I remember reading about it on a personal website John had several years ago and posted the audio of the mishap (he also randomly guessed "BUFFALO BILL'S DEFENSIVE LINE" for the Speed-Up puzzle...). Then he posted a video clip of it on his YouTube account. It's not up anymore, but now that I look back, I remember you were in the red position in the clip. John's flipper was sitting on $2500, so I imagine he called a pretty good letter, and the entire audience moaned when Pat penalized him. Did John win anything in the end? I bet he was kicking himself when taping ended. What was the "house minimum" at the time, as in, the amount you received for solving a puzzle with little to no money? Was it $200 or $500? Today, it's $1000. Sorry if you feel like you're being bombarded with questions, but us Wheel historians love to narrow down things like notable events, rule changes, etc. Your recap on John's nightmare is pretty much right on. except he asked to buy a Y, and then, a little late corrected to an I. Pat immediately said, uhh... u know we have a little rule around here, etc. etc. and John, as well as his supporters in the audience, were devastated, as the turn moved on to Stacey, who wound up solving. That Y save my Ass.! Also to the best of my knowledge, house minimum was $500 at my time, but won't swear to that . And John finished with $ 0.

Man, do I miss the Answer categories. I don't understand why they were axed.
In any case, this was some excellent information. Thank you for sharing.

The bonus categories are trying to make a slow comeback. Personally, I think there's a major correlation between the induction of daily Prize Puzzles and the fall of the bonus categories, rather than the two being a coincidence. (I know, off-topic. Don't care. )

Hey wheeldoc(Steve) what was the prize added to the wheel in Round 2 & Round 4 on the 10/20/95 & 10/23/95 episode of WOF and how much were they worth? Did you or other contestants win the prize added to wheel in Round 2 or Round 4 in the 10/20/95 or the 10/23/95 episode of WOF? Also what was the Round 2 prize wedge & the Round 4 prize wedge marked as on the wheel?

Did you email the files to tenpoundhammer yet? He'll take care of that for you. I imagine he would split it into all 3 (or just the first two since the third is already online), then into further parts if YouTube doesn't let him.

^ Youtube doesn't have a length limit anymore. One of the videos on my channel is over 34 minutes.
Also, I haven't yet gotten an e-mail from Steve.

Any idea why the numbers are so crooked on the yellow scoreboard?
Also interesting that they had Charlie announce the R4 prize. By that point, they generally didn't do that unless it was won.
