What's the CO-WORKERS incident? In an episode from November-December 1999 (C.C./Pat/Eric; video thread here), the players turned around for Round 4 only to see the blank spaces of the loaded puzzle; as per policy, a staffer said they had to change the puzzle because the players saw the spaces. After turning back around, Pat told C.C. that he thought the answer was CO-WORKERS. Once taping resumed, Sajak did the Final Spin and the same puzzle showed back up despite the fact the show said they had to throw it out. C.C. called the R's and solved immediately, then had no explanation when Sajak asked her how she did it. Pat didn't bring the matter up, as he thought the staff heard the whole thing because the players wore microphones...although, IMO, it seems more likely that they heard the whole thing and opted to screw him over. (Note: I began composing this post before TPH responded.)

although, IMO, it seems more likely that they heard the whole thing and opted to screw him over. Why are you always so convinced that they're deliberately trying to sabotage the show? I simply think that no one on the staff heard him say "I think it's CO-WORKERS", and she didn't want to admit that she was playing another contestant's hunch. As for why the puzzle wasn't thrown out, maybe there was a communication error somewhere along the line, and the board operators never got the message. Plus, it didn't really matter since neither C.C. nor Pat won anyway.

(I went overboard again. ) I guess the way I think (hopefully "thought", now) like that is because laziness and "they just don't care" can only account for so much before the decisions begin resembling sabotage. But thanks for bringing me back to reality, TPH. * In the 1999 case, I agree that they may not have heard Pat say what he thought, but they should've stopped tape if there was a miscommunication -- after all, they said they were going to change the puzzle (because the contestants got an advantage they shouldn't have had) but failed to; hence, why I thought like I did. * As for Andre, he very clearly wasn't getting a response from his device during the second Toss-Up, which is especially glaring because 1) he won the first Toss-Up and 2) he pressed his button something like ten times. This had a direct effect on the flow of the game, for better or worse, and would seem to suggest that the show doesn't do anything unless a contestant brings it up. (Again, apologies for going overboard.)

Sanam, I know that I haven't formally commented on your episode yet, even after being so excited to see you in action, but I have it taped and want to watch it again over the weekend some time. From what I can remember from the first time I watched it, I thought you played a very respectable game and just had that one missed vowel call that changed the course of events. I was so bummed when you didn't come away that round with the car, but I was delighted to see you fight to the finish, bonus round eligible or not. (I'll probably revise this once I get the chance to rewatch the episode...)
