I'm pretty sure you can back out if you didn't start the solve. We saw that a couple times in the last season. Once you start, you're locked in. As an additional rule, if you finish the solve and realize you made a mistake, you can correct yourself, but only if you do so IMMEDIATELY (that is, you've gotta beat the judge to the buzzer).

I would assume someone in the control room has a stopwatch, timing out how much material they have taped so far, and once a certain point has come up, they sound the chimes. I don't know if they are quite that precise. If there is a null cycle, they would have to go back and figure out how much time to add back on to the clock. Plus, whenever that magic point has come up, it would still depend on how much time the Speed Up takes to determine what else needs to be removed. After all these years, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody had a feeling based on the game situation and what has been revealed in the current round when to ring the bells. I would presume, in the cases where the bell rings at the outset of a round, that the rounds before that ran long... sound at all accurate?

Of course that should be the case. They don't do the Final Spin in R3, so if time expires during R3, they have to wait for R4 to start to sound the bells (and probably snip out more of the show to fit time limits). If time expires late in R4 where it's not worth sounding the bells when it's probably about to be solved, they usually just wait for the start of R5 to sound them.

Rory told me the wipe and music are still the same. The tossup music he said was the same, but does he also imply they're still using the 2006 Happy Wheels as well as the puzzle solve cues from '06 and the rock guitar opening theme?

^All of the themes, cues, wipes, etc. are still the same. Nothing has changed.

They actually showed the timer on-camera at least once. It was an episode a few days after Michelle's $1,000,000 win where a lady solved FOOTPATH about 0.3 seconds before the buzzer. I seem to recall it being its own monitor, but I could be wrong.

That's right. The BR timer is on another monitor below the Used Letter Board. It counts down in tenths of a second and now it also shows the timer ring graphic as it counts down. I'm pretty sure the category is shown above it, too.

^ In road shows, the timer is below the ULB, but in Culver City, the bonus timer is a separate screen hanging to the LEFT SIDE of the ULB. It does display the timer ring graphic, time in tenths of a second, and the category at the top.

Thinking about it, "That sound means time is running out." actually means "That sound means the game is ending with this round." (although in recent seasons, they seem to have added "Deal with it.") since the Speed-Up can take a long time to actually get through. Of course that should be the case. They don't do the Final Spin in R3, so if time expires during R3, they have to wait for R4 to start to sound the bells (and probably snip out more of the show to fit time limits). They don't have to wait. They could leave it open for the Final Spin to happen in Round 3 (which would be a welcome, not to mention refreshing, change of pace), but evidently they have to do the $3,000 Toss-Up or the set will explode from "OMG FINAL SPIN IN ROUND 3!" If time expires late in R4 where it's not worth sounding the bells when it's probably about to be solved, they usually just wait for the start of R5 to sound them. Two things came to mind upon seeing this: * An instance where the chimes went off right as a contestant asked to solve. They let her, she won the round, and they...went into another round so they could play the chimes immediately. * That "Dafuq?"-inducing moment last season where they stopped tape because the contestant spun just as the chimes went off at the start of a round. Would've taken about 10 seconds to let it play out, [JohnBelushi] BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO![/Belushi]

Why would having the final spin in R3 be... Refreshing? That means much less game, much less money won, slower gameplay, probably leaving more null turns in, etc

Actually, I would prefer they leave null turns in, so us home viewers can see what wrong letters have been called, that way we know they're wrong, if we're trying to play along.

The more puzzles, the better. I always enjoyed seeing shows go past Round 4.
If they didn't edit stuff out, we'd never have a Round 5 ever again. I think it's a fair trade.

Null cycles editors should begin replacing what Pat says, especially following the letter call after that cycle, into the more familiar phrase for next season. That way so viewers won't get confused.
Ex: If a contestant calls a repeated letter that was part of a null cycle after it, Pat's "That's been called," should be replaced by, "There is no [insert repeated letter here]."

That message is somewhat poorly worded. Can we try to get this person to sign up for this site?

That sounds like total nonsense to me. They made it sound like they think that just because they sent an email to Sony that they were gonna change the template. Protip to anyone who thinks it works: it doesn't.
Unless they can provide a reply email directly from Sony that says that they were gonna look into it, I'd just ignore it.

Not to mention that there is almost zero chance that they're going to change anything when they've already filmed episodes for February - they're not going to want the wheel switching back and forth between layouts from episode to episode.

They did change the round structure after the first few tapings of Season 29, and that became a mess and hopefully they learned never to pull major mid-season changes again.

Ugh... the same IP-user who posted to Dan's talk page about e-mailing Sony had this gem for me back on June 29...
I've been on Wheel's website and on Google news and cannot find one source to confirm the debut date of September 16. Where did you hear that for Wheel of Fortune's 31st season? I'm getting tired of waiting so late into the month.
I gave this guy the link to here, no clue if he followed it or not...

Now, because the Million-Dollar Wedge has moved to the pink $500, the only question is, will the Mystery Wedge stay at blue $300, or move next to that black and sparkly green wedge, in this case, a red $600?
