I don't think I'd be mounting the play myself. I'd mainly be searching for producers, even small-time but respectable, that would be interested enough to put it on, or however the process works. I don't dream of untold riches from it, because I know the reality of it. But I still want to try, and I'm in pursuit of a full-time job in a library, either public or in an elementary school (I'm currently a substitute elementary school library aide in the Clark County School District, and I also recently went for a job interview to become a full-time circulation specialist at the Green Valley Library in nearby Henderson, where my family and I are moving to in September). That's the way of it for most writers: We have a day job (or night) and we write on the side. It's even better if it's a job we love, that we can get ideas from too. Cool stuff-I have a a little bit of plays in my background, in terms of writing them. My goal was kind of similar, not the big bucks, but to send a message, to make people think, honestly, if nothing else. As an aside, I like your flowing, transitory language, in your writing style-it's going to be a good report to hear from you for that alone, if not the good details. Can't wait to hear the changes (via PM) of Season 31; namely what is new in Round 1; that's our primary interest (replacing Jackpot, in case you haven't heard yet). Welcome aboard, I like you as a member already. We gotta talk Disney sometime, too. EDIT: Play wasn't remotely significant...but I like sharing similarities. I'd honestly not remember it, people didn't act well (in either sense of the word), lazy, and I was overwhelmed (I also directed). Hope for the best of us, you get a better experience.

For me, in plays, it's also about writing about those places that don't really fit for me in novels or short stories that I want to write. For example, I have another idea for a play that takes place entirely at the Grewal Travel Center in Baker, California late into the night, about a nomad daughter who's shocked to find her father working at the baked goods counter in the small food court there (fictional, since there's no baked goods counter in that food court, but none of the current tenants there do anything for me), the same father who she traveled with constantly when she was growing up, after her mother left them. Apparently, her mother and her father were constant travelers who met on the road, and tried to settle down somewhere for their daughter, but the mother couldn't stand sitting still like that, and so she left, and her father got his itchy feet back as well. There's no crime element to it or anything, just the daughter trying to come to terms with the fact that the same father who said he'd always been traveling is suddenly here, years later, after she left him to start out on her own when she was 17. She's 24 or 25 now, hasn't seen him since, and while this is a major coincidence, it does unearth a lot to deal with. This is the same father who instilled in her this ferocious love of travel, and suddenly he's not moving around at all anymore? How does she deal with that? How does he explain? The Wheel of Fortune play is one of two projects I'm doing to get my parents' marriage fully out of my system. I've grown used to the constant dissonance in it, the arguments, and all of that, moreso than when I was younger and it all scared the hell out of me, made me wonder how we could possibly survive if they split up. What would be the future? It's not so much about having lived together for so long, but how do we begin to live again after all of this? That's what it was for me when I was 11, when their arguments caused the back of my neck to burn, up to a few years ago. I can't change the situation, and I certainly don't want to change them. All I can do is look out for me and work on my life. But after having witnessed this marriage since I was 3, I ought to get some use out of it, and this is how I'm doing it. I've heard about the end of Jackpot, and I'm going to miss that, because that was always a lot of fun, just in case someone solved it and swept up the pot. I always loved watching that. I will keep my attention sharp at the tapings for you admins. Talk Disney? Man, how did you know?! How did you know that I was born and raised in Florida, that my family and I, not long after I was born, moved to Casselberry, Florida, so close to Walt Disney World that we went there every weekend and sometimes during the week just for dinner? (Monorail drivers knew us by name and performers in the parades stopped by on their route to say hello.) How did you know that my sister and I collectively own nearly every Disney movie ever made? How did you know that Walt Disney World is one of the things that turned me into a writer? Yeah, we're definitely going to talk Disney! Additionally, my favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins, and my favorite childhood movie was Flight of the Navigator, which remains one of my favorite movies today. I don't want to keep clogging up this thread with me, so I'll PM you about it. I'm curious about what it was about, what the staging was like, etc.

Found a beautiful picture of the Wheel taken from a yellow contestant's POV posted on the Las Vegas Sun. Hello, new desktop wallpaper. And a great shot of the Wheel with the contestant area...

Those are awesome photos of the wheel and contestant area, Mario. Besides, it's sad to see $550, and the Jackpot round go, after all these years.

Thanks to a picture on the Las Vegas Sun, I can confirm that the category strips have not changed.

You've got me wanting to see the strips now, MarioGS.
Also, I know everyone is upset about $550 going, but it replaced $650 in 1979 after being nonexistent in the 1974 pilots. Come to think of it, only so many layouts had $550 and $650 on the same layout. Here's a list of all official "barren" layouts with both values on them, barring insignificant changes to the template.
Round 3 and 4 of the 1974 pilots. The 1987 turntable layout with the blue $750 and blue $950. The SEGA Game Gear version. Wheel 2000 (even though they were point values) And, of course, Season 30, which is used the 30th Anniversary mobile game as well as at least one layout from the Cubed game.
How many is that? Six. Only six.

The picture can be seen in the first gallery in this article, though some pictures, including that one, have spoilers regarding puzzles, round scores, and cardboard in possession/off the Wheel. Here's a safe crop of the pic showing what appears to be the usual category strip with the partial puzzle blurred out.

After Charlie O'Donnell died, I was hoping that Randy West would become the new announcer, because I loved listening to him on Supermarket Sweep. First of all, welcome to the forum. Second, I agree -- Randy's a great announcer, and it struck me as being a bit odd that neither Wheel nor Price opted to audition him...unless he, a good friend of Charlie, saw what Wheel was doing and decided not to audition. I wasn't happy at first when Jim Thornton got the job, but I became a great fan of his just like I was with O'Donnell because he fit so well in the show right away. That's a rare quality. I warmed up to Jim as well, although I skipped much of Season 28 (long story). Still, I get the feeling Jim was the only substitute Wheel was actually considering for the role. Wait, never mind. The backdrop IS a video wall, only much bigger and it doesn't have the neon border. -_- Because evidently, the show will die unless it has a video wall behind the players. It still looks miles better than using inane footage, though. Pat implies in this recent interview that it's actually the show's goal to change something every year without overdoing it... Getting rid of Jackpot isn't considered "overdoing it"? Wow. (Also, that's a bad goal. You can keep a show fresh without resorting to changing something every freaking season.)

Since the tapings have commenced, will spoilers soon be allowed to be posted? (i.e. what they replaced the Jackpot feature with, if anything)

I'm pretty sure November 4 is a sixth-episode week. Pat mentions something that I've never thought about before in relation to Wheel... * From what I've seen and heard in the past few seasons, Wheel doesn't exactly have a "live-quality feeling" unless it's a road show, and even then it's not always the case. Amusingly (at least for me), Wheel managed to have a "live-quality" feeling over its first 22 years despite lengthy stopdowns to manually unload one puzzle and load in the next. * Second, while "stay fresh" is great in theory (being too stale isn't a great idea), the problem here is twofold: it comes across as saying "We can't decide what we actually want in our show.", and the constant "variety" has little in the way of consistency or interesting change-ups (for instance, Season 30 recycled large amounts of the S29 themes in pretty much the same "week slots"). Further, the themes frequently take the puzzle and prize quality down noticeably (most notably the Trip Puzzle, and especially when Sandals is involved), a consistency which is only made worse due to the fact that Harry Friedman approves the puzzles that get used on-air. * As I've said on here before, Wheel is produced very similarly to a primetime network game show -- shows which, from what I've seen and read, were/are overblown spectacles that weren't/aren't too far removed from the so-called "reality TV". Making Wheel go the former route makes it go the latter as well, which is especially bad when viewers, contestants, and Pat have pointed out several flaws and the constant response is "ignore them". * As for desperation and revamping, Wheel's been in that position -- it's pretty much why Nancy Jones was dismissed 18 years ago, for instance, whereas the low-odds $1,000,000 top prize feels like another "But all the big-money shows are doing it!" concept. Sure, Wheel's still #1 and doing extremely well in the ratings, but there's a lot of problems under the chrome and it's hurting what at least for me used to be a quality show.

Even though Wheel has done some outlandish things over the years, I don't verbally bash them at every turn. It appears, for some, that if they were to just change the color of Vanna's steps, it would upset them I've always been taught that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Once again, back on topic please! This is about Season 31, not "Why I need to bash Wheel over every little thing since it not like it was in the 80s..." -_-

Even though Wheel has done some outlandish things over the years, I don't verbally bash them at every turn. It appears, for some, that if they were to just change the color of Vanna's steps, it would upset them I've always been taught that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. There's a major difference- as you are aware- between constructive criticism and just constantly bashing the show's current staff for no good reason. The former is fine. I'm not going to tell people that they can only say positive things about the show...that defeats the purpose of a community of people of differing opinions. Healthy debate is a good thing. I am, however, getting really sick of the latter...especially when the comments are the same things said over and over and over again. We get it. You don't need to go on about it. Make your point and move on. At this point, it's contributing nothing to discussions. Now, to avoid having this post be nothing but me chewing people out... I'm also delurking to thank the heavens and all you fans for these boards. I'm doing research for a two-act play that has Wheel of Fortune in the background in the context of one of the regular Culver City tapings (one of my two characters is a contestant), and this site is a godsend. You have no idea what this comment means. Over the past couple of years, we've worked to establish this site as a top source for news and information about Wheel of Fortune, and as a place where one could learn about the many intricacies of the show over the years. This shows that we're succeeding, and it's all thanks to you guys, our awesome member base. I have said over and over again that while we steer the ship, it is you guys, ultimately, that drive the site, and without you all, we wouldn't be where we are today. Keep on being awesome, guys. Welcome aboard, Rory, and thanks for the words. I appreciate all comments about the direction of this site, positive and negative, as they only help us be that much better. Feel free to use whatever you may find in your research, and feel free to exchange ideas with any of us. We're more than happy to help. ...and yeah, as Mario correctly stated, be sure to drop that taping report in a PM to me first before posting it.

No, they did not! Are you kidding? The infamous South Park clip of Wheel? Come on! I don't know why they did that. Now, is there any information about whether or not the Prize Puzzle and Mystery Round are still intact? And I'm expecting the obvious, but I just want to make absolutely certain (obvious is not a term in my dictionary, at least without the term make sure). The Jackpot won't even be in rounds 2 or 3, right?

Yeah! Go back to the 1983 theme and make it a techno-dance remix!! Oh, and BTW, MarioGS, some of the colors for the logo you did are out of place, but I do appreciate your guessing. I'll take a techno-dance remix of the 1983 theme over the ones they've been playing for the past six and seven years! Those themes are just unbearable to listen to. That's why after Pat and Vanna say their goodbyes, I just change the channel. So yeah! I'd say reinstate the 1983 Version of Changing Keys as a Techno-dance remix.

Now that the MDW is on the pink $500 (assuming it's still that), I'd imagine they're introducing $500 per consonant for it... which doesn't feel right to me. That and it's too close to the other Bankrupt. Doesn't make sense to put the Gift Tag on the orange $800. If they are giving $500 a consonant for the MDW, they could've easily kept the MDW where it was and slashed the $800 down to $500, not needing to move the Gift Tag. (keyboard fails... typing takes forever on this thing) It was probably best for the Jackpot to go... I liked the wedge, but not in Round 1. Hopefully Round 1 will be normal again. I may have missed a few episodes of WHEEL OF FORTUNE this past year, but it seemed to me like the Jackpot just wasn't winnable anymore and may have run its course. So, I don't mind the Jackpot being retired.

I believe the current set would look cool if they used this color scheme with the dollar values of today. Don't you think?
