Season 35 Pre-emptions Thread

KCEN in Central Texas airs Millionaire, Jeopardy!, and Wheel. Guess which two game shows get moved to Cozi TV during the Winter Olympics and which one doesn't because they apparently would rather people watch their normally-scheduled reruns of The Munsters instead?!

Wheel does get moved to Cozi on Saturdays, however.

Though season 36, this is worth noting. October 1st will see Alex Trebek hosting a Pennsylvania gubernatorial debate. It's possible the stations in Pa. who carry WOF and J! will preempt the show that evening, as IIRC Pa. gubernatorial debates preempt WOF and J! at least in Philly on WPVI. Alex may be preempted by his own self that night.

WBBH in SW FL didn't air Olympic coverage at 7:30EST from Mon-Sat. They air J! at that time and it was never preempted for Olympic coverage

Oops!... They did it again.

Last Friday 3/2, WBFF in Baltimore once again accidentally aired the episode from one week prior (Shamika/Brianna/Chance from 2/23, Delicious Destinations).

Wow. Milwaukee, you have reached a new low.


WDJT's normal game show lineup (Central time):

9:00 AM - Let's Make a Deal
10:00 AM - The Price is Right
2:30 PM - Jeopardy! (repeat)
6:00 PM - Jeopardy! (new)
6:30 PM - Wheel of Fortune


Their game show lineup on March Madness days:

9:30 AM - Jeopardy! (repeat)

LMAD, which will be in reruns, is gone since they've replaced it with J!, and Wheel is gone completely. No overnight timeslot or alternate station.


Someone at that station must seriously dislike Wheel if they think it's more necessary to show year-old Jeopardy! instead.

March Madness on CBS is only five Wheel days this year: March 15, 16, 17, 22, and 23. Wheel is affected on the usual two Thursdays and Fridays and only one Saturday. The rest of the games are airing on other networks.


Here are several CBS stations and where they are moving Wheel, if at all.





I still can't believe Milwaukee went from airing Wheel early in 2016, to not airing it at all in 2017 (in favor of Millionaire, which now airs on a different station) or in 2018 (in favor of Daytime J!). Somebody there must seriously dislike the show...

It's still a d*ck move to go out of their way to air an all-rerun feed of one show over its sister show's first-run feed, and even overriding CBS' national network feed. TPIR is in reruns too, so they might as well have put Wheel and maybe some other pre-empted syndie show in the 10 AM hour.

Detroit's affiliate replaced Wheel with J! during the Winter Olympics on weekdays only and kept Wheel (and not J!) on Saturdays since neither show is in first-run then (even though J!'s Saturday feed is also continuous; the episodes are aired in order unlike Wheel's feed), so that at least confirms they make that move only because of J!'s continuity and not just because "meh, we think Jeopardy!'s better anyway".

DFW's typical handling of Wheel pre-emptions (moving it to a sister station where J! and Millionaire air) actually means Millionaire gets the boot, since it airs in Wheel's timeslot. It's not often we see stations give priority to Millionaire since it's well behind Wheel and J! in ratings, even though it has continuity and its ratings are improving this season.

Tampa is another story. WTSP is moving J! to a random overnight slot in the middle of at least two hours' worth of Paid Programming. They have so much room before and after it to do a makeup airing of Wheel also, and yet they don't bother.

I get a kick out of seeing stations scheduling an alternating WOF/J! "mini-marathon" of sorts early Saturday morning.

Because Syracuse has advanced in the NCAA Tournament, Rochester's WROC is airing a local special tonight at 7:00 titled "Orange Nation: Tournament Edition". Wheel is sabotaged moved to 1:37 AM, but Jeopardy! stays at 7:30.




And tonight of all nights to pre-empt Wheel, too...

Part of tonight's show for 7:30 ET/6:30 CT viewers was interrupted on the big three networks for special reports on Barbara Bush's death. ABC was the only one of the three where most of the Bonus Round and SPIN ID drawing were not interrupted. 


CBS cut in from 7:55 to about 7:59, cutting into the Bonus Round right around the time the winner was picking her Bonus Round letters.

NBC had the longest report, cutting in from about 7:49-7:57, which pre-empted most if not all of the Speed-Up Round and Bonus Round.

ABC cut in from 7:50-7:54. On WABC New York, the cut happened right after the R was lit up in the Speed-Up Round, then Wheel returned right as the winner introduced her guest.
