They might not, but several will. Now that NFL preseason is underway, expect various pre-emptions around the country on game days. I looked up the entire preseason schedule and past Wheel pre-emptions for games. Obviously, it varies each year and each game, but based on existing relationships between affiliates and teams, I have compiled a list of what affiliates are most (or least) likely to air a game that would affect Wheel, mostly based on precedence. I have listed every team's home market Wheel affiliate even if they generally do not air that team's preseason games. Home affiliates are bolded. Red cells are confirmed pre-emptions. The other colors are the likelihood of Wheel being affected, with orange being most likely and blue being least, and gray being deconfirmed. If anyone knows of any other Wheel stations that often carry preseason games that aren't listed here, please let me know.  WOHL-CD2 is Lima's CBS, and it only goes to 2 weeks, so I did not know that they were doing it (It was a rerun of Wheel) |

There was no "pre-game day" special on WBZ last night. The pregame will instead air tonight at 6:30 ET. All of WBZ's usual programming from 6:30-11:00, including CBS network shows, will air on WSBK tonight. WBZ did pre-empt Wheel with an offseason Pats All Access back on July 29 (#S-7530RR), according to someone on Twitter. Wheel and other shows are also pre-empted tonight on WFMY in Greensboro, NC (CBS) by the annual Panthers Fan Fest. On KABC, Friday's Wheel will air Saturday with no S38 rerun. UFC overran by about 4 minutes. A rerun of $100K Pyramid was JIP'd on the East Coast, but KABC opted to run Friday's Jeopardy! rerun in its entirety, then after a few commercials, joined Friday's Wheel in progress during the fourth spin of R1. Ugh... As they did last time, KGO JIP'd J! right before the first break and aired Wheel in its entirety. Both were the Saturday episodes since they were not affected on Friday. KGO does not carry any NFL preseason games AFAIK. Other NFL preseason games that affected Wheel tonight... Another bad week to be in Upstate New York...
There is another Destination New York special this week on Wednesday and Saturday.
Combined with a Buffalo Bills preseason game on Friday, WIVB and WROC will be pre-empting Wheel three times this week. WROC will have pre-empted Wheel four times in a span of eight days.

Saturday's Wheel was also pre-empted on WROC by an infomercial, as it often is. Along with on WTEN Albany for the same reason (it was advertising Ed Sullivan stuff, so at least somewhat interesting  |

Tuesday's Wheel did not air at all in Dallas, a rarity for a pre-emption in that market. The Dallas Cowboys Preseason Scrimmage aired on both KTVT and KTXA (where Wheel normally moves when pre-empted) from 6-8 PM Central. Although Jeopardy! was moved to air after the event on KTXA, Wheel was not. Judging from a previous interaction I had with their programming director back in 2019 about a similar pre-emption, they seem to be under the impression that Wheel is not allowed to air outside of the 6 PM hour at all (but it is allowed for J!), even though they did air Wheel at 7:30 Central on KTXA at least once in 2020.
The show that followed Jeopardy! on KTXA instead of Wheel? RightThisMinute, whose last day on the airwaves, after being in repackaged reruns since last April, is a week from Friday.

Potentially good news for Boston fans. It seems WBZ may now be permanently using WSBK as an alternate station for airing Wheel and Jeopardy!
WBZ is, of course, carrying tonight's Patriots preseason game, which starts at 8:00 PM ET. They will be preceding this with a half-hour edition of Patriots All Access, which would normally air at 7:00 and pre-empt Wheel, but this edition will be serving as a pregame special and will air at 7:30. In the past, any time WBZ pre-empted the 7:30 time slot with a planned special broadcast, they would move J! to 7:00 to replace Wheel. They've been doing this since at least 2014 when CBS first started carrying TNF. In other instances, an additional local special would air at 7:00 to avoid having Wheel air without J!
In tonight's case, Wheel will remain on WBZ at 7:00 while J! will air on WSBK at 7:30. This is the first time this situation has happened outside of a national CBS Special Report. Hopefully, once Pats All Access becomes a weekly show again, the show(s) will always move to WSBK, as I believe all summer pre-emptions for either show have resulted in such.

Wheel pre-emptions for final preseason week, including yesterday, are as follows. Purple and gray airings are not affected.  NBC has NASCAR starting at 7:00 ET on Saturday, FOX has MLB before moving to College Football, and WABC has a special titled "Eat Up, New York" with Wheel at 5:00 AM Sunday. Aside from this, tomorrow is the last Saturday where WOF Weekend will air uninterrupted on ABC and most CBS stations. College football starts next Saturday. |

KBAK did not air the Chargers/Saints game on Friday despite 506Sports claiming such. Normal programming was aired.
On Sunday, WOHL-CD2 aired Wheel at 12:00 PM ET right before PBR Bull Riding. Normally, they air WOF Weekend at 6:00 PM if there is no sporting event, and 11:30 AM if there is one; the latter was an infomercial in this instance.
Sunday's national game on CBS overran by about 9 minutes, affecting CBS Primetime on the East Coast and Wheel on KMVT.

Here's a sneak peek at confirmed and potential pre-emptions caused by NFL during Season 40. Thursday Night Football is no longer a weekly affair on national broadcast television, but because of that, local stations can now bid for the rights to air those games locally, much like they already do with Monday Night Football. Bad news for West Coast ABC viewers: the first three Mondays of Season 40 will all see Wheel being pre-empted by national Monday Night Football games, and likely the fourth on KABC and KGO as well. Although best-case-scenario, you'll likely see Wheel scheduled some time between 9 and 11 PM, there is the risk of game overrun affecting Wheel, as we saw happen on the S39 premiere when the game went into overtime. WLUK Green Bay has Wheel before the pregame at 5:30 Central. Typically when both J! and Wheel are pre-empted by sports on WLUK (one of the few Central Time Zone stations that airs both shows in the 6 PM hour rather than J! at 4:30 or some other pre-6:00 slot), Wheel airs at 5:30 before the event while J! airs after the event and a half hour of local news, always in its entirety. This is despite the fact that J! airs first under normal circumstances. I'm guessing part of the reason for this is because since Wheel is stereotyped with older demographics more than J! is, they figure a typical Wheel viewer is less likely to stay up until 11 PM to watch their preferred game show, compared to J!

At least 6:00 PM Mountain airings may be pre-empted tonight. Biden is scheduled to deliver an address from Philadelphia tonight at 8 ET, but none of the networks have it listed yet.
Also, WHP Harrisburg is pre-empting Wheel four times over the next week and a half with infomercials! Specifically, Thursday and Friday of this week, and Monday and Friday of next week. In all cases, Wheel airs after 2:00 AM ET. Wheel is still listed at 7:00 ET on both Saturdays, but since College Football begins, these 99% likely will not air in their entirety if at all. As of today, they do not have any pre-emptions listed for S40 premiere week. Still, I feel like infomercial pre-emptions of this frequency, even if Wheel is in reruns, should not be allowed. CBS Media Ventures will hunt you down if you try to air Wheel at 2 PM for one day, but apparently airing it at 2:00 AM 40% of the time is A-okay with them. Meanwhile, WHP continues to air the last remaining reruns of Ellen, instead of using that slot for their sudden influx of infomercials.

I know we're in S40 now, but I was busy this past week so just a few notes on the last few days of S39...
WHP Harrisburg ended up only pre-empting Wheel once, on Thursday 9/1. The other three pre-emptions were reverted, and WHP's manager confirmed to me that this will not happen anytime soon in S40.
Saturday College Football has failed to end on time for 7:00 ET on CBS so far, and I imagine it always will.
ABC College Football overrun no longer appears to affect WOF Weekend on WABC, at least not when it's under half an hour. They now schedule Localish after the late night movie, then J! and WOF. My recording on 9/4 was on time and in its entirety. It is unknown so far if WABC will slide J! and/or Wheel for overruns >30 minutes or just JIP J!; they've done both inconsistently.
On Thursday, in addition to the nationwide NBC pre-emption, Wheel was also pre-empted on WPVI Philadelphia by a weather special. As with the previous NBC pre-emption, WCBD Charleston no longer makes up Wheel at all on pre-emptions, despite their previous policy of moving Wheel to their CW channel, now only the other of the two game shows gets that privilege for some reason...
WOF Weekend was pre-empted on WABC on 9/11 due to an ABC News Special Report on Queen Elizabeth's Procession at 5 AM ET. Wheel was cut off just before the chant.
