Having the puzzleboard be a single display would also allow them to show things like the amount the contestant hit, or if the contestant lands on the Million Dollar Wedge, the prize wedge, the Express, Mystery, etc on the puzzleboard before going back to showing the puzzle. It could be pretty cool to see that on TV.

If true, this puzzle board update is definitely needed; the previous one is definitely showing its age and doesn’t fit with the three new borders.
Hopefully more of the set will be shown soon; and probably a glance at a hopefully new logo!

It seems that among internet game show circles, more are concurring with the theory that the puzzleboard now consists of a single display. This would mark the biggest technological leap the show has made since the board went electronic over 25 years ago, and there are a few reasons why it would make sense from a production standpoint: 1) There would be at least dozens, if not hundreds, fewer failure points. The current board consists of 52 separate monitors and the touch activated sensors associated with each one (totaling at least 104 components). If any individual component fails during taping, then it could result in lengthy production delays to repair it - which the producers would want to prevent as often as possible. Under the assumption that the new board is a single screen and a touch input (or multiple touch inputs), then there would be reduced opportunities for malfunction and therefore less overall interruptions. The producers are constantly looking for opportunities to make the show as close to live-to-tape as possible, and this would expedite the realization of that goal. 2) It provides plenty more possibilities for customization. For example, the designs of individual squares could be easily modified for theme weeks. Envision this: a 40th anniversary "retro week" that allows it to be designed like the 80s-90s puzzleboard, with animated green-sequined "trilons" that, when touched, rotate (again, via animation) to expose a blank on one side, and a letter in the original typeface on the third. (Are you listening, producers?) Plus, the board would no longer have to be a predominantly static set element. It could function as an extra display that could be used whenever the game isn't being played. I'd imagine the show could use it to show vintage clips coming in and out of commercials. Of course this is all brainstorming from me, but it illustrates that the potential is endless with this technology, and that skilled producers shouldn't be afraid to take advantage of it. 3) It would usher in a technological evolution that the show simply has not taken in decades, and the 40th anniversary season provides the best opportunity to showcase that step. Simple as the show's premise may be, its future should not have to rely on nearly 30-year-old technology in the 2020s, particularly when Wheel's parent company is a giant multinational tech corporation. Undertaking a change like this is a signal that the show's producers (and perhaps the new ones) are willing to advance it with the times. I believe all of this makes perfect sense. Plus, whenever I saw the picture of the Puzzleboard, I asked myself, "What the show is following suit with the International Versions of Wheel of Fortune based on how they designed their puzzleboards? Then, I was told by my good friend Adam that the new Arabic version has one solid screen on their board. So, I thought maybe that's what our version is doing -- transitioning to one solid screen. Yet, something told me that they would one day transform the board into one solid screen; and I've even visualized it myself. First, we had the original monitors when the new electronic board debuted in 1997. Then, ten years later in 2007, the monitors were replaced with the flatscreens which were becoming a more permanent fixture in society at the time. And now it appears that Wheel is taking it to the next level with a giant single flatscreen on the board. Which reminds me of how Jeopardy! replaced its monitor bank with a single giant flatscreen that was divided into 30 squares when the show transitioned into HD along with Wheel in 2006! Remember that? So, again, maybe that's what we're seeing here!
Also, if it is confirmed that the puzzle board is now a single flatscreen, then (as you pointed out), Vanna would no longer have any trouble getting the letters to respond to her touch as we have seen in the past. Plus, another advantage to this potentially new design is that she would no longer have to touch on one side, she could touch the letters on any side and they would light up! How about that?

Found a screenshot promoting audiences to attend a taping, and it was dated the day after someone took a photo of the WoF set at the Sony Pictures Studios tour. And it has Season 39's title card in the monitor. I wonder if this means they're reusing last season's title card.

Since the show always starts a new season in September and on a Monday, I really hope they would start the new season on Monday, September 19, since the nighttime show started September 19, 1983. I think that would pay a bit of homage.

One thing that would be really nice regards that window used during an Express run. Instead of using it for just that, have it be used for contestant and overhead Wheel views throughout the game until the Final Spin. That way, it'll be much easier for home viewers to play along at home rather than have their view be cut off by shots of the Wheel and the contestants. Many international versions such as Germany, Italy, and France have done this. In fact, I'm very certain I brought this up in the thread about France's version, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to bring it up here since I believe that's something our version could do.

One thing that’s also been on my mind; will the white things be used still?

One thing that’s also been on my mind; will the white things be used still? I know that they've started taping a couple of days ago at this point. So, there's a good chance that they are still in service even though COVID is no longer a big threat as it was two years ago, but still out there. However, if they continue using the spinning devices as the 40th Season progresses, perhaps it would be best to repaint them with the contestant colors Red, Yellow, & Blue just as they repainted the devices solid gold for CWOF!

This is the first season in a long time where I have failed to see any pictures of tapings on social media. They must have told the staff not to post anything. They probably want to make the board upgrade a big announcement, but that Yelp reviewer ruined that already.

http://instagram.com/p/Cgnz8hcL6OQ Actually, here’s a glimpse, but of the new logo thanks to Jimmy McGuire’s Instagram. Looks like it’s an update on 39’s. And for some reason, 250 is on one of the blocks. Brings up another question; will the same logo template be used for future seasons with the wedges behind the logo?

I take this that John Lauderdale has now entered a full retirement from the business?

Is there a 40th anniversary on the logo? And wow, that's the only picture we have so far. We usually see pictures on the first day of taping.

Can hardly tell. But they have to.
Aside from the new puzzle board, I think they may possible have another surprise in store so I think that’s why they haven’t released any more pictures, but I’m not sure.
The $250 on one of the blocks already has me worried if they’re gonna start budgeting again.

Could be.
My best bet is that future logos will probably be based on the 3D backdrop behind the contestants.

I take this that John Lauderdale has now entered a full retirement from the business? As I mentioned in the Jeopardy thread in the Off Topic section, Jimmy is working on Wheel this month but didn't specify his permanent involvement, so stay tuned for news on that. Also, one of the pages at Sony made some small talk with the crowd as they waited to enter the studio. He briefly mentioned that there will be an emphasis on "XL" for Wheel's 40th season ("XL" being the Roman numeral equivalent for 40), but he didn't really specify what that would entail. My only prediction for now is that the graphics will incorporate this concept. Expect some more concrete reports soon now that audiences are set to return next week.
