According to the writers at BuzzerBlog, a set change could be in the works at some point next season. Given that a handful of tapings for S42 have already occurred, this would likely mark a midseason change if the rumors are true.

The show has already taped 4 weeks of shows with the old set that will air the weeks of 9/23, 10/7, 11/4, and 11/25, in addition to at least 3 6th episode tapings (not sure if yesterday’s tapings had one). The show will go on hiatus until July 25 at which point the new set will debut for taping.

So from my understanding, the four weeks of shows they've already taped will air throughout late September through November. When they come back to tape again from hiatus, there will be a new set. So it sounds like the new set will debut at the start of the season, then we'll have four weeks spread out throughout the first few months of the season with the old set. Is that right? That sounds like it'll be really odd having the old set popping up for a few weeks, but maybe I'm just missing something or overthinking it.

I wonder if they're going to overhaul the puzzle board frame and the base of the wheel because those have remained the same since 2003 (despite changes to the generic set over the years), with the exception of that extra frame around the puzzle board that was added in 2021. We are long overdue for such a set overhaul.

The wheel and puzzleboard are said to be staying the same.

The new set is being done by JPConnelly, he posted some pictures of the empty stage on his Instagram story today.

The way JP and his firm are teasing their role in the updated production design on social media leads me to believe that this will be a significant overhaul from the ground up rather than a refresh using existing set pieces. Think more along the lines of a 2003-magnitude update rather than a 2021-type soft redesign.

Think more along the lines of a 2003-magnitude update rather than a 2021-type soft redesign. The updated generic set in Season 28 was also a soft redesign, as it too was used with existing pieces. And as I stated, we're overdue for a significant set overhaul (the last one coming in '03 when the gold-colored borders around the wheel and puzzle board were replaced with the current plexiglass and LED borders). That being said, I wonder if the new set will also come with a new title card and/or new theme music.

Do you think the show should start using Neutraface as their new font to go along with the new set, just like in my graphics concepts?

no, and they won't; they've got new graphics using the old font already

For whatever it's worth, here is a blurred preview of the set design as lifted from Mr. Connelly's TikTok page. Obviously there's not much about specific set elements that can deciphered from the screenshot itself, but it looks like the electric blue neon frames are out and the classic 80s gold fixtures are back. The green design of the individual letter squares now appear to be blue.

Maybe the blue might be the giant LED screen. Either way, from the blurs, the set might be more colorful this time. And the 80s borders look like a nice touch.

They do indeed appear to be going back to more '80s/early '90s style borders and an overall more colorful look, and that's great!

Will set change weekly related to theme week?

Will set change weekly related to theme week? I won't be surprised if this was still the case. But I can't rule out another possibility they could revive the multi-colored backdrops that were part of the set until c. 1996 (albeit updated versions)

Given that theme weeks are back in full swing the same way they were pre-S39, I’d bet that the set is still going to change week-to-week

I just hope its sister show Jeopardy gets a new set too. It’s long overdue for one.

I just saw a video on Instagram and screenshot it. And as soon I saw this I was like OMG this set is going to be interesting in this upcoming season.
