Wayo, I'm curious, what's this "substantial evidence" of which you speak? I just said it - NYC being incredibly stingy.

Alright, I agree with that, but then why not change the bare $500s (if there are any left) to other amounts?

There are no bare $500's left. All of them house some piece of cardboard: WC, Prize, Gift, both 1/2 Cars, and possibly the MDW now (though even if that is $500 under it, it's very likely not awarding $500 per letter, as that could actually make the million slightly easier to be won).

Now, one thing I've been thinking about besides whether $550 gets a new color or it's retired is whether or not there are any new top-dollar values. $4000, $4500, $7500, even $10,000, you name it. I know I may be past crazy when I say this, but you don't know until you know. If anyone here attends any tapings, those are my questions. At this point, I don't care about the gameplay structure (I want that to be a surprise); I just want info about the Wheel values.

Well, I'd be past surprised myself. Anyway, I just realized something about the Million Dollar Wedge's placement. It's been there before, albeit (I learned that term from the Wikia; thanks to whoever puts that up XD) with the pre-season 30 layout.
Now something else to note while I'm still posting. If what's under the Million Dollar Wedge is not $550, think about when $550 replaced $650 in 1979. Now that $650 is back, will $550 be gone? If so, that means, when it came to known game layouts, there have been only three with both of those values. The first two were rounds three and four of the 1974 pilots. The third was just this past season.
Although I wanted to point all this out, my mouth was accused of "jynxing" something about a year and a half ago. I don't want to get into it, so please don't ask.

If that really is the new placement for the MDW let me just say how much I hate the change. It looks so tacky placed between the $400 and $600. It's location was fine before not to mention the colors actually worked well with each other. Le sigh...

I actually think the new placement balances the color scheme better with both orange wedges now being fully visible, plus the cardboard now appears to be more spaced out.

I agree with MarioGS. It never really looked good on the orange $800, but I don't think I would've have put it on the pink spot because that's the closest two Bankrupts have ever been to each other, technically. I know one episode from season 27 where it was placed on the red $800 next to Lose A Turn, and it ties with this. Still, both of these occasions beat the layouts from 1976 to 1979, where only five wedges separated the two Bankrupts.
I'd put the Million Dollar Wedge on the purple wedge next to where it used to be. I don't think it'd disrupt the color scheme all that much. Plus, it would be equally distanced from the two regular Bankrupts.

I still wish to this day. If only the 5000th show was a special reminiscing show rather than a regular old gameplay episode, let alone one with a $100,000 loss. I have to wonder which was quieter - the 5000th show or Season 29. Hopefully the staff learned their lesson and have these special milestone shows be good ol' retro stuff. Now I just said Season 29 was a quiet one, and I'll tell you why. For 29 being my favorite number, the absence of $700, the Wild Card covering $900 (a big value considerably) with no money offered under it, it just seemed quiet with a side of disappointment. The two $100,000 wins late that season were probably the only saving graces in my viewpoint. Let's just hope I don't say the same about season 31 when its last episode airs, although it's the unlucky number with the digits swapped. If $550 is retired, that, along with the Jackpot's retirement, will be, in my viewpoint, a bad omen.

Don't forget one of $100K winners has the MDW during the main gameplay but it all ruined thanks to the stupid Bankrupt. I know it was the big six figure win but I still disappointed from it. But at least the milestone season make it up from the upset 29th season, included the return of $650, few more $100K wins than last season, and let not forget the May 30 episode, it was the big night. I hope season 31 will do good this year as last season, even if they did got rid of Jackpot and $550, maybe add the new rules to replace will make it up for it. I hope.

The Jackpot round will certainly be missed—it was one of my favorites—but if we're going to slowly work our way back to old-school Wheel of Fortune (as far as 2013 standards will let us—the touchscreen puzzle board is right where it belongs), then it'd be kind of inevitable anyway.
As for the possible removal of $550... That value's kind of oddball anyway. Only thing I find really bad about it is that the odd multiples of $50 would have a weird gap ($350, $450, $650) like the multiples of $100 did in season 29 ($300, $400, $500, $600, $800, $900—I'm only counting non-top dollar values here). The $650 being a $750 instead would make it less jolting.
As much as I want it to, I don't see the Prize Puzzle going until they have permanent four-digit wedges. $1,000 and $1,250 wouldn't be bad to start with, with $1,500 and $2,000 possible in late rounds to make up for the abominable Trip Puzzle.

I wonder what purpose the SPIN ID's will have for this season...Another $5K Every Day? Or will they be dropped from regular episodes and only be drawn for sweepstakes? The PP has no purpose anymore other than to boost winnings.

The whole Jackpot retirement (as well as its 1980s predecessor) is being discussed at the GSF here. As a fun little aside, while double-checking the daytime Jackpot's rules in response to a post in that thread, I found (on November 30, 1987) Pat holding the Jackpot wedge upside-down and calling it the Topkcaj. The $650 being a $750 instead would make it less jolting. It would, but it'd also remove a fun little wedge. As much as I want it to, I don't see the Prize Puzzle going until they have permanent four-digit wedges. $1,000 and $1,250 wouldn't be bad to start with, with $1,500 and $2,000 possible in late rounds to make up for the abominable Trip Puzzle. As much as I'd like to see this happen, cash always costs money whereas the Trip Puzzle doesn't on at least some occasions. I wonder what purpose the SPIN ID's will have for this season...Another $5K Every Day? Or will they be dropped from regular episodes and only be drawn for sweepstakes? The PP has no purpose anymore other than to artificially boost winnings. Fixed that for me.

Look, I don't give a crap about whatever happens at GSF. They're another group of people that have their own opinions.
Everyone here has GOT to take a step back and realize the position that the site is in. We are a growing site, and with growth comes a voice. A voice that, whether people agree or disagree, is going to be heard. We, as a community, have got to learn a little bit of self-control about negative remarks we make to the show and other game show communities.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I hate Jackpot going away. Most of my favorite Wheel wedges are now gone because of it. But that's not ANY REASON AT ALL to go on long conspiracy theories about why Harry Friedman hates the show, wants it to die, and the same old shit.
And the attacks on GSF...again, they have merit, and at the same time they don't. But the fact remains that attacking them for their opinions on this site and its members is WRONG and will NOT BE TOLERATED.
This is a thread to give information about the upcoming Wheel season, not to make continuous chides at Mr. Friedman and the wheel staff, or to make crazy-ass speculations that everyone knows god damn well aren't going to happen. Look, I WANT people to react to all the changes and the theme weeks.
(I'm also going to apologize in advance for being a hypocrite and attacking myself...It's wrong under certain circumstances. But, at the same time, I am under the belief that, when harsh language and negative remarks are used appropriately, they can be used to prove your points very well. You all (as well as myself and the rest of the admins) DON'T have power over the show/GSF, so don't do it. Period. And if anyone feels negatively hurt by what I said, please let me know so that I may apologize.)

Irrelevant .gif removed. We generally frown upon these. Especially when they're just snarky in nature.

Guint, you're absolutely right. I apologize for the remark I made. It was uncalled for and in bad taste.
The point about the whole Friedman thing is this--if he wanted the show to die, he could have done that a long time ago. Why would he want to kill the #1 syndicated show? He doesn't want to!
I'm upset that the Jackpot is gone, but I don't think it will hurt the show as far as ratings are concerned. The majority of viewers I'm sure are the "hardcore" fans that we are. I have a neighbor who watches the show just about every day and she couldn't tell you one season from another. She thinks they're all new episodes all the time.

Of course Harry doesn't want to kill Wheel of Fortune, and he's never wanted to do that. The only thing he's done to Wheel is (d)evolve it into a primetime network game show, as I've pointed out before. I definitely don't like it, but I'm clearly in a minority if the ratings are any indication. This is a thread to give information about the upcoming Wheel season, not to make continuous chides at Mr. Friedman and the wheel staff, I know that, but the two seem to go hand-in-hand sometimes. [Edited to remove two comments and send them to Guint via PM. The one just above is relevant to the whole "stay to the discussion" thing...I hope.]
