I, too, am sad to see that the Jackpot is retired. But, at the same time, I'm also really looking forward to whatever the new gameplay element is, which I'm sure will be pretty exciting. Honestly, I think the main reason they're doing this is to freshen the show a bit.

I actually think the new placement balances the color scheme better with both orange wedges now being fully visible, plus the cardboard now appears to be more spaced out. II broke out my replica of the wheel for this . I could understand if the orange wedges were across the wheel from one another but that's not the case here. That combo of $400 MDW $600 looks extrordinarily bland. To me, it makes more sense to have the MDW surrounded by darker colors because of the bankrupts. With how it's set now you have the lighter $400 on one side and the darker $600 on the other. Not saying that the entire wheel should alternate like that but in this case it's what looks best. The only other compromise I could see is placing the MDW over $400 because it flips the color pattern of one of the bankrupts. It's really the only exception to the light/dark scenario on the wheel.

Was purple $550 really that bright?

If it was on $400 you'd have the Pink $500 on the opposite side of the now Purple $500. I'm saying that combo works well since purple and pink compliment each other well... yellow and red... not so much.

I'm hoping Jackpot is like the $700 stunt: gone one season, back the other.

If it was on $400 you'd have the Pink $500 on the opposite side of the now Purple $500. I'm saying that combo works well since purple and pink compliment each other well... yellow and red... not so much. Well, let's see...if the MDW was put over the $400, then the Gift Tag couldn't be on its new location because their typical oval design overlaps with adjacent wedges, and we can't have it interfering with removable wedges, so the purple $550 could remain unchanged, but now the only good location for the Gift Tag would be the red $600, so that would have to be changed to a $500, and with a pink $500 next to it already, that would have to change, so it would be only logical for it to become the new $600, so it would all look like this (in R2. I added the Mystery Wedge because the 900-700-300-800-550 area would look so bare for R1): And this is what we're actually going to be seeing... I see what you mean by the complementing (or lack thereof) of the colors. Also, FWIW, I never liked having two pink wedges so close to each other (only 3 wedges between pink $500 and $900).

Not to mention that it's easier to revive just a dollar amount than an entire gameplay element.

Mario is right about the $700 being easier to revive instead of a gameplay element, so even though 1 of my favorite wedges is gone, we just have to hope that the new element would be just as good as the JACKPOT Wedge.

The August 3rd Vegas tapings are for "Taste of the Good Life", according to one of our forum members taping that day! As for who it is, we'll leave that up to them to reveal when they're comfortable. And no, it's not me. I wish, though.

If the MDW were to cover the $400, it would be covering the only $400 on the Wheel. I don't care much for that. But then again, it could be covering the only $550 on the Wheel; who knows?
By the way, did anyone else notice that in the very first picture that Mario posted in this thread (the one with the Season 29 logo on the screen), it appears that the Jackpot space is on the Wheel? Depending on when that picture was taken, the decision to retire the Jackpot may have been very recently.

That was taken the day before the first tapings.
Jackpot was always more commonly stored on the Wheel instead of with the flat extra wedges and tokens. Maybe it was stuck on there ever since they brought the Wheel back from NYC and they took it off for good shortly after that picture was taken.

This is something that I have found quite funny in a way, and I hope this isn't too off topic. I know the whole Jackpot's retiring is a shock to all, including me, but are we going to quit watching because of it? I think not. I mean, they've changed something almost every single season, some changes major, others not so much, yet don't we all still watch faithfully almost every night even though we may hate the change(s) with every fiber of our being? Yes! I always expect something new every season; that doesn't shock me. What would shock me would be if they didn't change something...

Yeah, and germanname left a great breakdown about the most significant changes of every season since 17, so this is no different, but this is much major change compared to others. Jackpot was around for nearly 17 whole seasons.

Don't get me wrong—I have a soft spot for Vegas stuff—but I could have used a longer break from a Vegas week being a season premiere. If you must go on the road every single premiere week, give some other cities some love, too.
Edited to add: Just noticed the photo caption misspells Pat Sajak's name.

Well just in general go somewhere else. They haven't ventured far from Vegas in the last few years. I'm kinda sick of it TBH

Just noticed something in that article about the Vegas tapings.....
I know that Wheel taped at Studio 33 at CBS Television City in the late 80's and the early/mid 90's, but is this only a recent development, or is this just a stupid mistake?

Just noticed something in that article about the Vegas tapings..... I know that Wheel taped at Studio 33 at CBS Television City in the late 80's and the early/mid 90's, but is this only a recent development, or is this just a stupid mistake? 1989-95...and yeah, that is odd. Edited to add: Just noticed the photo caption misspells Pat Sajak's name. I just hope that when I become host of Wheel, they don't use "Benefield" or somesuch at times over the next 32 years. And by "when", I of course mean "if". A very, very big "if".
