No, the contestants are grouped arbitrarily by the contestant coordinators, usually such that there are two women and one man in every group whenever possible and so that no two people are from the same area unless it's appropriate for the theme week. The position you play from as well as which episode your group will be on are what's determined by a random draw.

Now that you say that. I don't think I've actually ever seen a show with all three contestants being the same gender.

It's happened fairly often in the 80s and 90s, but it's very rare these days unless the theme calls for it. That being said, there was one week in 2014 (the week WooWho was on) in which they experimented by grouping all of the taping's contestants at random instead of the groups being predetermined. This did result in one of the shows from that week being three men and another being three women, and two shows each had two contestants with the same first name. This method was only known to have been done for this single week. |

I thought I posted this earlier, but I can't seem to find the post. My apologies if I'm repeating myself: Can any BAV veterans point me in the direction of threads/boards here that would help a future contestant prepare for their game? I have the app on my phone, but I'm looking for other tips/ideas to prep. flashcards? websites? games? I'm open to suggestions!  Also, I'm looking for rules for taping day.. like how many people can be in the audience for you, how old do audience members have to be (my daughter is 4), what to wear, etc. etc. thanks in advance! |

So when I played, the rules stated something about contestants in the same game not having close associations with each other. Don't remember the exact wording, but do remember that it made me and a fellow contestant selected for my game bring up the fact we were work colleagues. Makes me wonder if the rules have since been reworded or eliminated, or maybe I was just confused by what I read back then.
If such a rule does still exist, then I wonder if there would be any issue with contestants who know each other from BAV Boards playing in the same game together.

Maybe it was in Season 16 that things started to change reducing the number of shows with three males/females. If they had made sure of it before then, we wouldn't have had two contestants named Bob on a Season 15 show...unless, perchance, that one episode was a Friday Final?

I just downloaded the Android app to my phone so I can study up and practice. May I also recommend this very site's Daily Puzzle Game? It's a touch harder than the actual show, but might provide some valuable practice all the same... |

...speaking of practice, we need to start adding an arbitrary adjective to every puzzle and categorizing all of them as Thing, even though they may fall under Phrase or "Count Me In".

They did the same thing in Denver but with a Firefighter. At least she has a better estimate of when she's filming.
