We have received a tip from a big fan of the show who attended the California Coast tapings (VTR 12/15, Airing 01/16-20) claiming that a completely different music package was in use, including the main theme, Toss-Up music, Speed-Up music, solve music, and all Bonus Round cues. The new music was said to be "more contemporary in style and flavor" and "more melodic and modern" while maintaining the same jazzy "structure" as the current package.
It is unknown if this will be permanent or if it's just an experiment. They always have the ability to replace the music in post-production, which they may do for any weeks taped out of order before this change. If it did not debut with California Coast, then it probably did with the Weekend Getaways tapings two weeks prior, airing the first week of 2017.

I'm on the fence about this.
I like change but it just takes me a while to get used to it.
I really like the current speed-up music.

The new music was said to be "more contemporary in style and flavor" and "more melodic and modern" while maintaining the same jazzy "structure" as the current package. I'll laugh my ass off if this "new" music consists of pre-Season 18 stuff. Seriously, though, I'm gonna be optimistic and hope this marks the return of Changing Keys (and not in the "use a few seconds and that's it" style they did for a couple years). It seems Wheelmobile events have used the Burbank-era version as recently as six months ago (there's some footage from June 2016 on YouTube), so there's that. Still, anything has to be better than what they've got now...right?

I was thinking for Season 35 it was time to finally get a new set of cues. It's been about 10 years since the last major changes, right?
To hear that it may suddenly be coming in the new year is a bit of a surprise.

The most recent music package was first used in Season 25, though the current Toss-Up cue debuted in mid-Season 24. The Speed-Up music was remixed in Season 28.

Maybe in this package they'll use the same piece for the opening and closing of the show. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but they haven't used the same song for the opening and closing since Season 24.

Wow. I had no idea. At least they were both variants of "Happy Wheels." Heck, I wouldn't even mind if the new package includes a new version of the theme.

Ha, wonder if Pat's repeated on-air comments about the SU music spurred this on. 😛

It's about time. Except I hope they leave the Express music alone.
And wouldn't it be a treat if Wheel decided to do an online release(iTunes) of the new music for fans who host their own versions of the game at home?

I wished they would've never gotten rid of the the Speed Up music they debuted in Charleston in Season 24. Hands down my favorite piece of modern Wheel music. I wish there was a clean copy of it somewhere. I recall Pat stating once that he wanted that cue on his iPod.

The new music package debuts tonight according to a station worker, the first aired show of the 2017 calendar year.
Maybe the rights for the previous package expired at the end of 2016 and rather than retire it between seasons, they just waited until the end of the calendar year to retire it.

More info from said worker who has already seen tonight's episode: It is indeed the entire music package that has changed, but the sound effects are still the same. The intro spiel and opening animation are also still the same. It is not a comeback of Changing Keys in any way. They said it was a "rather uninspired soundalike", and no mention of the new music is made.

^Probably very little difference that it'll go unnoticed by the casual viewer.

The intro spiel and opening animation are also still the same. Do you mean visuals / what is said? Because the audio was just very different. EDIT: I can barely hear the toss-up solve cue, and I think the regular solve cue for that matter. But the main puzzle reveal jingle is the same.

I don't like the new music at all.
Especially the speed-up music...it sounds like cheesy 70s porn music.
The introduction sort of sounds like the "Sex and the City" theme.
Anyway, I think it sounds cheap and just plain horrible.

It's sounds different from what we had for the past 10 years. Has to grow on me to get used to though.

During tonight's Speed-up round, Pat comments about the music by saying something that I can't quite make out and closed captioning didn't even add it.
He says, "Two E's here at the Wheel of Fortune _____ club.".
I know he was joking about the music but I can't quite hear what he said to fill in the blank above.
EDIT: I think he says "supper club". That's probably most likely and it totally fits with the new music. Leave it up to Pat to point out the horrible music...that's why I love the guy!
