No, they're still dressing it up for theme weeks. The first screenshot is the aforementioned press photo, while the second is from an officially-sanctioned source (local news anchor of a Wheel affiliate). Spoilerized below: <br>

Do you think set turn red when contestants landed bankrupt on the wheel?

Looks like the gold bursts make the show “come alive” as Ryan and Vanna enter; really nice touch. I remember when the show updated the set in Seaaon 39; one X user complained it was “too game-showey”. I’m gonna expect the same complaints, but this is a game show, isn’t it? It’s not tacky video walls all over the place anymore.

Just as an FYI for those who didn't watch it on CBS Sunday Morning, most of the segment is about Ryan himself and his career, but yes there is some talk about Wheel and footage from the new season plus a short bit with Vanna.

Do you think set turn red when contestants landed bankrupt on the wheel? It does not. However, the "ship wheels" in the background do flash when someone hits the Million Dollar Wedge.

Thoughts now that I've seen more of the set in action: The puzzleboard looks fantastic, and the new wheel border and center door/monitor piece are also welcome changes. I'm just not sure if I like the area to the right of the centerpiece and behind the contestants as much as what we had from seasons 39-41 - it seems like there could be a bit more going on there. Perhaps it would be better if they had a ship's wheel behind each contestant in a similar layout to the old '80s/early '90s sets, or they could still have a "Bloomin' Onion" type logo in the middle with a ship wheel on either side. But it's definitely still an improvement over how the set looked from 2003-2021, and I'm glad it's not as busy as the UK set.

The New York Times recently posted an excellent business-oriented profile of Ryan and the show, and it is littered with new set pics. Some of the new graphics are also visible in one of the shots, including one contestant/round score view that looks to be brand new (it looks excellent, by the way). The article is behind a soft paywall but can be legally accessed for free using your web browser's "reader" tool. Gameplay and set design spoilers ahead - click at your own discretion: Behind the Big Changes at ‘Wheel of Fortune’For anyone interested in just the photographs, they are collected in one album here.

I will add to my previous post by saying that, judging from these pics, the contestant/host background looks better when they have more decorations for the themed weeks. Maybe they should just add some extra props for the generic set like they did in the last few seasons.

I will also add that I was rather disappointed they didn't bring back the parallelogram name tags, and the puzzle board font is still the same. Additionally, I was kind of thinking "what if the puzzle board had gray blank spaces that lit up in white every time a correct letter was called, and whenever Vanna reveals a letter, the space would rotate to the left like the old trilons (only during main-game puzzles, not toss-ups)."
That said, I also like the new toss-up wipe since it matches the set perfectly. And I noticed the font being similar, if not the same as the one used on the 2004-06 wipe. But they could've used a different animation and accompanying sound effect. The current sound effect for the toss-up wipe debuted in Season 22, and the flip-up animation started in Season 27 (though it was somewhat modified in Season 37 and Season 40).

The bonus wheel also received a redesign which can be seen in Ryan's new Instagram post. It also seems to be set up closer to the wheel, near the edge of the railing where Ryan hosts the main game.

That black platform Ryan is standing on is actually added specifically for the Bonus Round. They remove it along with the Bonus Wheel after the segment. The Bonus Round is played on the larger platform next to it, in front of the Wheel, rather than on the flat stage, and Ryan now stands on the viewer's left (like Pat did on CWOF Seasons 3 and 4) instead of the right.
The Bonus Wheel's letters are the same, but the lights are now all turquoise.

ET recently aired an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of the new set taped during one of the show's theme weeks ("Great Outdoors"). The footage also dispels the notion that... ...cars are no longer offered as prizes. In fact, the new set accomodates cars on stage, countering previous conjecture from BuzzerBlog.

I thought they could put the car behind the doors, a la The Price is Right, but it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. 😂

I’m loving the new set way more in these videos than I did in the initial pictures that were released. The new puzzle board especially looks great, I love how they’ve finally added more around it after all these years and made it feel like a throwback yet modern at the same time. I’m really excited to see it all in action in just a few more days!

I think it's more likely that cars are going to be offered only during special themed weeks whereas during generic weeks, cars might not be offered as a bonus round prize at all.
