It still feels weird to me that the backdrop logo is still used for the Celebrity version but not on the regular syndicated version.

What we've seen here for the Celebrity version is quite peculiar, but I'm sure we'll find out more for how things will be for that come October. In the meantime, it came to me a few hours ago how, without the "Ship's Wheel" arches behind it, the upcoming Puzzle Board seems to pay homage to the 1974-1981 board, something that the Wiki also pointed out, but I just came across this video showing more of what the new set has to offer in addition to Season 42 in general.

or they could still have a "Bloomin' Onion" type logo in the middle with a ship wheel on either side. Seeing the CWOF set pic, I still think this is a good idea in theory, but the execution feels off. Perhaps if the ship's wheel on the right (from the viewer's perspective) was the same size as the one on the left, and was also gold colored, it would work better. Maybe it also could have helped if they could have made the logo a tad bigger, like the regular season 39-41 logo. I know I'm nitpicking though, and I suppose I could change my mind after seeing it from different angles. |

^ From The NY Times article, the category strip is back to an oval-shape a la the 90s, except black instead of blue.

Just saw the season premiere, and was amazed to see the new set in action. However, I'm a bit disappointed there were no music changes. While I wasn't expecting a major overhaul to the music package, changing some of the music cues would've been nice (e.g. slightly updated arrangement of "Changing Keys", modern rendition of the 1983-94 puzzle solve cues); there were tweaks to the 2000-06 and 2006-16 packages. Also disappointed the end credits are still in the same font as Season 24 instead of being in a new font.

I honestly think the black & starry background would probably be more suitable for the new set, whereas the genenic bright blue background doesn't really bring as much atmosphere to the game. The atmosphere looks dead to me at times.

^ JP implied in the comments that it will be in the future, and that there will be gradual improvements to the set throughout the season.
