Also for a suggestion for season 30, remove final spin edit outs. Pat will spin the wheel again if he lands on anything other than a dollar amount.

It's common practice in the game show business, not just on Wheel of Fortune, to edit out stuff that does not affect the game. I have a sneaking suspicion that some episodes of Match Game are edited for time because I have a hard time believing the celebrities wrote THAT quickly.
I have no major concerns about null cycles being edited out, but the operative word is "null"—if it creates a discrepancy in score between what's displayed on the scoreboards and what somebody manually keeping track at home would have, then that's something that should be kept in.

I can confirm that, at least on the syndicated show, the celebs' writing time was SEVERELY edited down.

Here's another idea in terms of theme weeks: Why don't they try "Decades Week"? Meaning all week long and each night they celebrate the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s? How does that sound?

If I may vent a bit about the show and changes I'd like to see...
* I really wish the show would stop referencing the week's theme via the puzzles so often. We don't need to keep seeing puzzles about Polynesian dancers, white sand beaches, and luaus to understand that it's Hawaiian Getaway week. Similarly, not every Teen Best Friends week needs to have puzzles referencing Facebook, Twilight, texting, and pop culture. So I'd definitely like to see some more "generic" puzzles. A few such puzzles scattered here and there are no big deal, but I think the show has been going overboard with them for the past few years. I also think it makes the game more challenging if there's no discernible theme to the puzzles that players could catch onto.
* I'd like to see the category "Living Thing/Things" be done away with and such puzzles just be considered "Thing/Things" as they originally were. Again, I feel like some of the challenge is removed by making the category so specific like that. What's odd is that I have no problem whatsoever with "Proper Name" and "Person" being two separate categories. LOL
* A bigger selection of prizes is definitely needed. I feel the show's theme for the week is meaningless without it. When the show first started having a different theme every week in season 14, the show still offered things like trips and boats in the bonus round, and these prizes often tied in with the theme somehow. For example, the week of 10/7/96 was "Discover the Americas" week with bonus prizes of trip to Canada and a ski boat, a trip to Rio, a trip to Mexico and Chevy Blazer, and a package of Johnson-Matthey gold and silver in addition to the $25,000 cash. With only cash and cars given away in the bonus round and mostly trips and gift cards given away in the main game, the week's theme doesn't really serve nearly as much of a purpose as it once did. Not to mention that the set always looks so barren without any big prizes on it.
* Get rid of the Prize Puzzle altogether (preferably) or at least give away a much bigger variety of prizes instead of trips. A bigger variety of prizes for the Prize Puzzle would also mean a much bigger variety of puzzles that can be used for that round. To be honest, I'd like to see the Surprise brought back (to replace the Prize Puzzle), and Round 2 and Round 4 Wheel prizes.
* I'd like to see the first two Toss-Ups done away with and just have the good old-fashioned "Just before the show, we drew numbers to see who would start the game" routine used for the first three rounds. I'd actually like to see Toss-Ups retired altogether, but I think eliminating the first two is a (slightly) more realistic wish.
* I'd love to see the 3-day returning champion format brought back, or at the very least have Friday Finals every week.
* Separate contestant backdrops. All those video wall graphics are distracting. I'd even settle for the video wall displaying a solid red color on the left, yellow in the middle, and blue on the right with no motion or fade of any kind as backdrops.
Thanks for letting me vent.

* A bigger selection of prizes is definitely needed. I feel the show's theme for the week is meaningless without it. The theme weeks determine what trips are on offer. That's it. And besides, I highly doubt the show cares. * I'd like to see the first two Toss-Ups done away with and just have the good old-fashioned "Just before the show, we drew numbers to see who would start the game" routine used for the first three rounds. ... I think eliminating the first two is a (slightly) more realistic wish. Or just eliminate the second one and make the first worth $1,500. Do the Toss-Up, introduce the players, throw to Jim. Alternately, do Toss Up, introduce players, do this: (spins the Wheel) "$2,500 top dollar value on the Wheel for this first round. Don't hit Bankrupt, 'cause if you do you'll lose all the cash and prizes you accumulated in that round but not in previous rounds, because once you solve a puzzle that stuff is yours to keep. And now Jim Thornton's going to say some things, I'd pay attention if I were you." * I'd love to see the 3-day returning champion format brought back, or at the very least have Friday Finals every week. Yeah, but then you destroy the entire purpose of removing the concept in the first place, which was to allow the "luxury" of taping in any order they want. And we know they don't want to deal with anybody more than once. (While we're at it, remove the frickin' "lifetime ban" rule.) * Separate contestant backdrops. All those video wall graphics are distracting. I'd even settle for the video wall displaying a solid red color on the left, yellow in the middle, and blue on the right with no motion or fade of any kind as backdrops. How about showing different backdrops each day on the video wall (randomized, of course)? Monday could have the third starburst backdrops, Tuesday the chevrons, Wednesday the diamonds, Thursday the "W" things, and Friday the 1974-81 "sparkle" backdrops. (And as a little nod, the "ON ACCOUNT" light appears once in a while on the sparkles and starbursts.)

Here are my ideas:
-$200k is the new $100k, so there will be no way for people to break $200k the hard way. -'30' Wedge acts as '25' wedge ($3,000 cash or in sponsor of). -In MD Bonus round, replace all $35k-$50k cards with just $30,000 envelopes (As like in the Bonus Wheel Premiere). -Have the MD wedge be a whole wedge w/out 1/3 Bankrupts. -Keep the '30' wedge, 1/2 Cars, & Wild Card in ALL rounds (even speed-up) -Retire Prize Puzzle (replace with '30' wedge) -Have house minimums raise in each round Round 1 & 2 - $1,000 Round 3 - $1,500 Round 4 & so on - $2,000
-In Speed up rounds, Free play = $500 -> $1500 Prize & Wild Card = remove from wheel & edit out
-Have contestants the option to keep home wedges, BR envelope, & whatever they picked up off the Wheel.

Also for a suggestion for season 30, remove final spin edit outs. Yay, bankrupts on the final spin! It almost happened on the delayed final spin episode near the end of season 28.

^There's no "almost" about Final Spins that land on a non-cash wedge: they always get cut out. Further, if the close-up shot has it approaching such a space, it'll either stop right before or go past.

...you know what? There's really not much of a point keeping this thread open, since the season's already taping, and information is coming in rapidly (thanks mainly in part to Sanam, BTW ). Not to mention I really hate these suggestion threads, so... LOCKED
