I just found this picture on Instagram that was taken at the Sony Pictures Studio. It shows part of the new Wheel layout and there are once again significant changes! Check it out! (I flipped it to make it easier to read) - $550 has returned as a value and has replaced the $350, making this the first time since 1986 that $550 has been a color other than purple. - $600 returns in blue and replaces the blue $300 - $400 has been upgraded to $700, making this the first time the value has been seen in yellow Notice the three values that are not pictured: $300, $350, $400. Could the Wheel's minimum value be increased to $450, or even $500? Could we finally be seeing $500 vowels after all these years? We'll find out later on. In the meantime, discuss!

We're *not* going to be seeing $500 vowels. They made a big to-do about the fact that vowels have stayed $250 for all these years, why change it now? They have no qualms about keeping the price of vowels $250 when one spin guarantees you that much regardless.
I'm not sure I like that whole $500-$550-$600 cluster over there, but then my favorite set of wheels had $200-$300-$400-$500 next to each other...

Inflation needs to happen sometime, Josh. If the minimum's been upped and vowels are still $250, that'd just make it look even more ridiculous...but if the minimum's $500, then $500 vowels would be a new version of the same problem (namely, that anybody can buy a vowel after one right letter). And if things on the Wheel are getting better, I have a theory as to why: There won't be any Big One winners in at least the 21 remaining shows of this season (and possibly the S32 shows taped at the beginning of this month), if not the "no Big One landings" drought just plain continuing.
I don't know anything for certain (and I don't want to know since, as I've said before, I find this drought amusing), but it wouldn't surprise me if this is only coming about because the confetti remains unfired.

All right! That's actually a great way to give more money and make up for what happened. I'm glad to know $550 is returning and will be blue for the first time since 1986. $600 will be blue for the first time since 2008. $700, apart from that donut from Season 29 and the Pressman's Junior Edition layout from 1987, is going to be yellow for the first time since 1979.
Now if $500 does indeed become the smallest value, I would like to state a few things about some of the smaller values.
$300 has indeed been a prominent value, having appeared on every single layout used by the show except the 1987 boat rug and possibly the bonus round layouts used from 1989-1992, until possibly now.
$350, the most ignored value in American Wheel home game history, will probably go to its grave no longer worrying about being ignored in future home adaptions, unless the daytime show is brought back or a new dollar is introduced, the possibility for either happing being extremely low.
$400, well, I don't see much to say about that for the moment.
$450, despite going from orange in 1975 (unless round 2 had a smaller value) to blue in 1979 to pink in 1996, has never had its position or its own numeric value affected in any way, until now.
Now although I'm glad to know about $550 coming back and sporting its pre-1986 blue color in a new way, some questions still remain. Will the Million Dollar Wedge finally $500 per consonant occurrence? Will $650 still be playable? Will $750 and $850 come back from the dead? Will $950 finally get to be a playable value on our version at long last? Will the third round's top value be higher than $3500, perhaps $4000?

I find it weird having $550 and $500 next to each other. It makes the wheel look so weird, and if vowels are now, in fact, $500, that is just dumb. They have been $250 ever since I could remember and they should not, repeat, not change it.

Will $950 finally get to be a playable value on our version at long last? Will the third round's top value be higher than $3500, perhaps $4000? - $500 with the MDW: Most definitely not. They didn't do it last season, and there's no reason to start doing it now. Giving money with the MDW can significantly decrease the chances of it being lost to a Bankrupt, LAT, or wrong letter. - $650 Remaining: Presumably yes. No reason to change it. - $750/$850/$950: I'd say there's a decent chance of at least $750 on the not-pictured side of the Wheel replacing the $450 or orange $300. If not, then we'll only have TWO wedges which end in -50, and that's going to look awkward. There have always been at least three since the minimum became $300 in 1999, then that became four in Season 30 before going back down to three ($350, $450, $650). I really hope we see at least $750 on the Wheel for the sake of more value variety. - $4000: Would really be nice, but probably won't happen. We'll see, though. Another theory, increasing the minimum value this much actually DE-creases the chances of having other four-digit values outside of Express and Mystery , but I really hope they learn to fix the $900-$5000 gap, and having only $500-$900 is hardly "variety".

If they're going to be stubborn about vowels at $250 (which I disagree with, bit surprised they care about that so much when they don't about the rest), they need to do more than just clog the Wheel with 500-900. This is the time to bring back 1000 or more and up Mystery to a bit more.
Will it happen? Probably not.

They really need to move that $550 because that looks ridiculous having it next to a $600 and $500. Somebody needs to be slapped. And if $500 does indeed end up being the new minimum then they really need to change the vowel price. I'll be making mine $1,000 a pop if that does end up being the case. I don't think it's completely unreasonable considering the changes.
Oh and is anybody else just a little bit bothered that there are 3 $5X0 wedges in a 4 wedge span after that $700. I can't tell you how much this is gonna annoy me, probably more than the MDW being moved to the pink $500 and leaving an ugly color scheme and many of you know how I went on a rant last year about that haha. (Still annoyed with that btw)

Yeah, it can be a bit iffy although my personal layouts have $550 and $500 sitting next to each other during rounds 3 and 4. On the barren layouts, a red $500 is just two spaces counterclockwise of the $550, although a $3500 is placed over that in round 3 and $6000 in round 4.
Now it has happened before where two adjacent values start with the same digit, although never on the scale as they are now.
$175 and $100, $200 and $275, and $250 and $200 on the 1974 round 1 layout. $25 and $200 along with $125 and $100 on the 1975 round 1 layout, although the latter pair would continue on until 1978. Possibly $100 and $150 on a round 2 layout from mid 1975 $275 and $200 on the 1976 round 1 layout $350 and $300 on the 1976 rounds 2 and 3 layouts $250 and $200 on the 1979 round 1 layout ($200 and $250 in rounds 2 and 3 in 1980) $150 and $1000 from 1976 to 1989 Some $1XX values on the Goen era $2500 and $250 from 1996 to 1998 Adjacent 250 spaces in Wheel 2000 $3500 and $300 from 1998 to 2007 or so The $500-Jackpot-$500 from 2008 to 2012.
But yeah, we're probably going to have more $5XX values than ever before. At least there won't be two wedges of the same value next to each other.

Well this is certainly a shocker... especially after we predicted a quiet year in terms of Wheel changes. I don't see how they could NOT raise vowel price if the $500 minimum is true - $300 minimum was bad enough because any letter would give you at least one vowel (unless on the MDW), but this would guarantee any player TWO vowels with just one single consonant revealed, and the ability to take the whole set with a mere triple.
Also, I very much hope that we see some form of four-digit space elsewhere on the wheel, even if it is only ONE, because $500-$900 is a very narrow range for 19 out of 20 cash wedges on the wheel to always be falling in. That's only 10 possible cash amounts, but really more like seven, since $750 is not currently on the wheel (yet) and $850/950 are highly unlikely (850 is an outside possibility, but 950 seems like a downright longshot).
My fear is that we'll get a new R1 gimmick that is also a $1,000 space. That would give us a NewThing/Mystery/Express round structure and the only way that a four-digit amount would ever be hit (outside of TDV) is with some form of strings attached.

I have most of the same opinions as whammy007, though I disagree about a R1 gimmick being obligatory. If we count the daytime run, we're a touch over seven and a half months away from the show's 40th anniversary. Prices have skyrocketed since then. If bottom dollar has been bumped up to $500, then my bet is going to be on two things: - An increase in vowel price so the game isn't made too easy. Maybe $500, maybe higher. I say it sure as heck isn't going to stay at $250, and I don't see them increasing both the price of vowels and the lowest value on the wheel while still keeping the former lower than the latter.
- A no-strings-attached four-digit wedge other than top dollar to allow for more breathing room in terms of wheel values.

I'm not necessarily saying that an R1 gimmick is obligatory, I just think that for better or worse we'll probably end up with one. Personally, we could stand to lose a few gimmicks for all I care.

Interesting changes. I wonder if the wheel part of the set has been changed. I think it should go back gold like in the old days.

I saw that a yellow wedge'd be going there, albeit not a yellow 700 via this pic (from the FB page)

Whoever made that simply duplicated the yellow $400 and pasted it over the Prize Wedge in the original pic. It wasn't taken off at the time that was taken. Here is the same overhead shot used in a picture they uploaded on March 12, before Season 31 finished taping. That $500 will likely be left as-is unless the Prize moves or retires.

I was moreso referring to the yellow next to the Million Dollar wedge, but I see what you are getting at

Wow, that's interesting. All the values under $500 have been decreased. But I don't think they have increased the price of a vowel to $500... Nowadays there are only 5 wedges under $500, and it wouldn't affect the current gameplay too much.
I find the $550 wedge very weird next to $500. But it would be weird putting it in another place in which they have changed another values.
My bet is: the blue $700 is $750. The orange $300 is $850 and $450 is... Another $550? Have they ever put the same $X50 in two wedges at the Wheel? If the answer is yes... the orange $300 could be perfectly another $650 (or $600 if they don't wanna give so much money xD).

^ There were times when they had more than one $150 and $250 wedge on the Wheel. In 1996, we had the same situation with $250 that we have with $500 today. October 4, 1999 is when we just had one each of $350, $450, and $550.
The Goen daytime era actually had two each of $125 and $175.
EDIT: The final round template used until September 1996 had two $350 wedges.
